So 8thou?(.008)? No no no for my V6 they say .002 . For V8 like .003 which is like a 4 cylinder ish. And maybe a machinists straight edge because accuracy is important here. When does valve clearance come into play? So if you're 4-6 thou off you're in big trouble just with sealing. If you remove too much material from the head without compensating on the gasket to up the slack. Do hydraulic lifters take up the slack? On old over head cam with adjustable rockers as a normal longer interval major tune up you'd adjust your valve lash to 10 or 12 thou for exhaust because it gets hotter and expands more intake at 8-10 thou intake expands less. I watched mechanic gap a totally non starting engine with a match book cover, and started right up! The customer had tightened the lash to .000 so the valves couldn't actually close. I had a Haynes manual for every car I've owned, if only for the handy specs like torques. Just food for thought.
I got news for you big guy. .008 is way too big. Most heads are out of tolerance at .005. You need a full set of feeler gauges. Down to .001. Good info for the most part. Good luck.
Thanks. This was just a random motor I picked up to learn on. I sold it since then. Would it be safe to say that heads warm more then blocks? Can you get away with just a head resurface or do you need both.
Ahmmm Buddy, you need to Buy a Straight Edge.
I'm assuming .008 inches? because I read .05 to.0.1 mm is within spec
Sweet! I’m gonna watch that playlist now.
Thanks for the support!!

@BulliKid A lot of the time, yes. But always do check while the head is removed. It takes no time and can save you big time in the end.
Are you guys talking mm or inch?
Well explained
Thanks
Is that your civic head?
No it’s from a GM motor. it’s a abandoned engine I picked up last year to take apart and learn on. I have a play list of the engine.
What’s up BULLI kid, can I have your email? I think I found a perfect car for your channel!
