Legendary, underrated group. Glad to see them finally getting their flowers.
they deserve the love!
I actually know Speech. Incredibly insightful guy. If you meet him it makes sense that he makes the music he does.
Since Mr Windom
As in the eternal words of Speech, "facts." 🎉
Speech is a very underrated lyricist who doesn’t get enough props. The lyrics to “Tennessee” alone are deep and meaningful that fly over most people’s head. Glad to see he’s still out here doing his thing.
I love the new format of not dropping a thousand snippets before we get the whole interview. Thank you Talib and team, this show is the gift that keeps on giving. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
And get married because I don’t have a big ass pop off right she’s dating right now she married wanna be married in two years she married before she was 30
Looks like Talib is interviewing artists from the Grammy tribute show: first The Luniz, now Arrested Development. The Pharcyde, Digable Planets, and Yo-Yo should be next.
I think we underappreciated Arrested Development back in the '90s but I'm glad they came out.
I was just listening to Mr. Wendal the other day, what a revolutionary song. Humanizing and showing appreciation for a homeless man as a radio single... what a foreign concept in today's Tik Tok "check out my ass" culture.
it's a jam.
I was born in the 90s I discovered this group a few months ago, they really are underrated. First album is phenomenal
truth!
Man wish we had more current groups influenced by groups like Arrested Development. One of a kind👏🏿
Good to see 1% of Arrested Development on this platform... swear they have more members than Wu-Tang 😭😭😭
Damn near
😂😂😂😂
Yooooooooooooo I thought I was trippin. Arrested Development takes up the whole stage and backstage
Yeah they was 20 deep
Yeah and I understand why the stuff they were putting down was revolutionary meant to positively lead a nation of people
Not too many real hip-hop podcasts out here, I needed this. Next up is Digable Planets.💪🏿
Please
Word!
Realrap
Good assessment bro.
@Kamil_Abdul Agreed!
My older sister put me unto them in the 90s when she came home from college. Man that first album was so everything, jazzy, soulful, and dope lyrics. That album dropped at the start of gangsta rap going mainstream, and still hung tough in the changing rap scene.
My first live show (without my parents) was seeing Arrested Development in the early 90s.
It was a small venue in Cincinnati...
My young face was rocked off. I was frozen the entire show... When I should've been moving and dancing, I was statue-esque and utterly awed.
I'm sure it looked weird to them lol... Just a very still, very wide eyed 13 year old in the crowd; the only one not moving lol.
Anyway.... I mention all that to say Speech looks the exact same.
Thank y'all for your art.
Great nostalgia bro ✊🏽❤
Soon As I Saw The Thumbnail & Title to This Video, I IMMEDIATELY Clicked On It.
Arrested Development & Sooooo Many Others In Hip Hop That Had a Look, Style, Sound, & Image That Was Afrocentric, Positive, Smart, Uplifting, Eclectic, & Unique Was ALWAYS My Favorite & What I Mostly Identified With.
Super Legendary & Underrated Group. They Deserve An ENTIRE Garden!!!
SALUTE!!!
#EVERYDAYPEOPLE #HIPHOP #50YEARSOFHIPHOP ❤🖤💚
This is my musical family. From Milwaukee to ATL…
I love their music! Listened to it back in the day on Hot 97 FM in New York City! At least 4 or 5 of their records were in rotation at one time or another on Hot 97.
Thanks to bring Arrested Development 🙏
Gratitude.
That new ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT song Hip Hop Saves Lives ft. Chuck D & Grandmaster Caz is amazing.
Peace to Funky 4 + 1, the first hip hop group to appear on SNL (February 14 ,1981)
Awesome interview
Thanks Uproxx, Talib and Arrested Development!
Love hearing how my childhood was so similar to all my favorite artist.

My brother Speech is the truth. He is so refreshingly real. What you see is what you get, and what you get are gems.
Powerful group I love seeing together again. Great interview 👌🏾
Very powerful, inspiring interview. Thank you Talib!
I was 3, 4 years old when this group came out! They music was always on BET, MTV and music was always on the radio. 📻 Great to see them get their 💐
Great 2 see them shown love - they are a important part of Hip Hop
Great interview, Love, Peace and Respect to Brother Speech, Eshe, Fareedah and Arrested Development, they are definitely an UNDERAPPRECIATED Hip Hop group!! Folks forget AD was a multi-platinum BEFORE Outkast even had a record deal, WORD!!!🙏✊👏❤🖤💚💫
I absolutely LOVE these People's Parties - they are published less and less frequently - what's up? PLEASE KEEP PRODUCING THESE - I learn sooooo much and love them sooooo much!
Such an important group. ♥️♥️♥️
Great interview with a great group.
Wow! Truly moved and inspired by this! There are so many layers to this interview with the group! I appreciate each and everyone's backstory. views, and artistry! Really dope seeing Big Bro Speech build with Kweli! Can't wait for the new music coming from both artists! Let's Goo!!!!!!!!!

Another dope interview man. Great underrated group.
Zingalamaduni is the record that truly transformed a lot of US. Great interview.
Thx fam!
Born in 89 I remember being 3 hearing A.D. hits ie Mr Wendal Everyday people and Tennessee. A few yrs ago I went on a RUclips dive and I just let their stuff rock and man this group should’ve been way bigger. Speech is one of the most underrated lyrics of our time . Africa insides me had me shedding tears at a red light I knw folks thought I was crazy😂 That first album classic but dnt sleep on that 2nd joint united front , united minds of America the list goes on.
I love arrested development, and i turned all of my friends on to the group. I'm from Compton, and there was a local artist named Mix Master Spade, who is an underground legend. He was the first person I've ever heard that had the sing song rap style, and he came out in the early 80's. Dude was brilliant. Toddy Tee was his partner in crime, and they had a song called "The Batter Ram"! Spade died about 20 years ago, but he basically put Compton Hip Hop on the map. Rest in peace to Spade, and much love to Toddy Tee. I just wanted to bring that out, so people can peep game. Shout out to Talib!
Loving this interview !
This was dope!!!
Absolutely right, they had some new sound, new energy, and the music was just so memorable and catchy. AD are in a league of their own, Tennessee was a big ass hit when I was a kid, it was all over radio request shows, we all had it on mixtapes. I grew up in Serbia 🤘🏻
One of the grestest without a doubt..love them❤ peace from basel switzerland
Classic ❤❤❤❤❤thank you Talib
Arrested Development never gets enough credit for putting Atlanta on the map.
You gotta do what's right even when it doesn't feel right.
tough and true
Milwaukee is here
Such a dope group! Speech’s solo albums are great! I still listen to the first one all the time!
Love the podcast and all the guest you have had this far!!! When are you going to interview Digable Planets

Salute!✊🏾
Shoutout to Arrested Development!
Awesome dialogue. So glad they were able to get their flowers. Another good interview!
Thank you Uproxx and People's Party for giving love to a criminally underrated group. It's nice to see them have an opportunity to share their story in a way that highlights their authenticity that was often questioned when viewed through the lens of the industry. This is Dope. Their music and representation means a lot to a lot of people including me!
I just found this thing. I must catch up. Kweli is the man!
Arrested Development was my first album CD purchase. 😅
I love this new setting. Feels more personal.
Yes I love it
Awesomeness
Mr. Wendell was my favorite song.
Back then, this group made me fall in love with hip hop 😮😢
Glad to see them together cause I know they wasn't on good terms with each other if I'm not mistaken
Super Group here people. Do your research. Mr. Wendal, Everyday People, Tennesse etc. those songs hit different!
Still got da tape n ment condition. VA n da building 804.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It is great to hear from Arrested Developement again after all these years. Definitely a real force for good, rightousness, truth, and the underdog.
I remember the day I discovered Arrested Development. I must have been 13, it was a Wednesday, we were playing a board game I think at a friend's house. The television was on behind us and every Wednesday they played clips on the M6 channel (French tv). I hear the beginning of "Tennessee" behind me, I turn my head, I observe, I listen, it sounds so new to me, I am amazed by the music, the clip, the flow of Speech but also by the voice of the incredible singer towards the end of the clip ! When I went to Paris a few months later, I was able to buy The 3y5m2d Album (tape). Even today I listen to it with great pleasure ! Curiously, in middle school, a lot of my friends listened Rap like Public Enemy, IAm, NTM, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, Kriss Kross, etc... But had never heard of Arrested Development...I was rather proud of that, with the feeling of being à "l'avant-garde".
Definitely Legends.
My hero's????you are one of my hero's.
Intellect applied to the common good is way cool ...there has to be a social(ist) mindset if the goal is to lift as many as possible out of the doldrums ... I can only speak for myself but I feel depression a little for the self but more so for the plight of the voiceless collective ...❤
Hi Jasmine❤ keep an eye on Talib , he a wild child❤ ❤ Happy New Year and to Arrested Development ❤

I wanted to hear your Opinion about Mos Def Wearing a Skirt
Haven’t seen anything like them since
NOT FROM 'TENNESSEE' .. BUT .. 'I AM EVERYDAY PEOPLE'(EVERYDAY) ..
Ahead of their Time and setters of the pace.
Shoutout to Mr Duff Marlowe who signed Arrested Development to Chrysalis records!
Talib, who hooks up your custom embroidery on your baseball caps? Looking for a resource, yo.
Hip-hop 🎶 🎤 👍 👍 👍
I heard that story about how he died was because yes indeed the people in the books were real live people. So you may be right!!!
Dope interview from one conscious solo to conscious group...I had a secret crush on that baldheaded young gal...Didn't know BABA OJ was Ausar Aset Society.
Montsho was my main crush as a kid.
What happened to your Instagram?
And what happened to your show?
As far as women in groups, Queen Mother Rage and Isis/Linque were with X-Clan.
Mr wendal is THE shit!!!
Just a shell!

The sister with the short hair kinda look like "ANDELL" from - (MOESHA)

Do Digable planets and let's continue the afrocentric trend. We be to rap what key be to lock
I'm interested in knowing where MONTSHO ESHE gets her name from and what is the meaning of it. I'm South African and we have similar names MANTSHO (Meaning the Mother of Darkness/Blackness).
Tennessee still my shit
Atlanta doesn’t have nothing on us in NYC you know because we on your album but they can’t explain correctly on the history of the djembe music and where it comes from exactly. Guinea West Africa bro ask Dellwyn bro.
