Thank you so much for making the point that we absolutely stand on the shoulders of giants! My background is in art history, and it saddens and frustrates me that so many people believe that mixed media, particularly the “collage arts” owe their existence to RUclips! Go back people - way waaaaay back - and glean some inspiration from those that came before. And what it was all about. So many surprises to be learned. Great video Tracie, thanks for sharing your art & perspective with us!
This is a very interesting point you bring up.. I have seen many photographers that created collages with their photos and I am not sure if it was done in the darkroom or they assembled then with their printed photos but it's been done long before RUclips in various ways
Thank you for your lovely videos. As far mixed media artists coping each other I think of a U2 lyrics “Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief...”. So we are all in this together. Love to all
Thanks for the Artist history. Great to hear. And really enjoyed your sped up Gelli session. And your collage process. A very informative video. Fabulous journal. 😊❤️😊
Yes, please! I love the photo of Matisse with paper scraps all over the floor. I like to point out to my family that Matisse was far messier than I am when making art! 😆❤️
Beautiful tags. Vincent Willem van Gogh, Salvador Domingo Dali and Pablo Picasso are my favorite Artist. There several unknown Artist because I'm constantly seeing graffiti that just astons me. Mother nature is also a big influence on my Art. Thanks for sharing your talents and knowledge. I guess we owe Art to more people than we realized. Namesta 🥰🐞🤗
Thank you so much Tracie, I really really enjoyed watching you create these amazing and stunning tag’s. I’m going to look up the artist’s you mentioned and see if I can be inspired. Although your inspiration is really really helpful and useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤
It’s just fantastic talking about the famous or not artists. I think all of us ..the “makers” are list one favorit artist just we dont have courage to talk about it. And the reason is to not be judged about the others . I realy like the idea of series of that. Love your tags how is came out but more then that I love watching the proces and your talking. TFS ❤️
Thank you for tying in what we do with Matisse as an inspiration. For me art is a joy and a struggle-Thinking of Matisse cutting shapes is comforting somehow.
Yes, when he could no longer do the art he loved, he found a new art to love. Thats just perfect, he didnt give up, he had help, but was able to continue to create beautiful and inspiring art x
wonderful to hear your excitement! and thank you for sharing we all draw from our experience, what we have seen and lived, and even though we may mimic a style our interpretation will always show our own artistry. I love that.
I love what you are doing, including the art history. I really appreciate your knowledge and I look forward to the next video to learn more. I love the inspiration of the artist that came before and agree that it has been done before. We get to bring our own life experience to it as we make, being inspired and informed by their work. Your stencils are great! I love the one with the green sort of hashtags with the blue background that your pasted circles upon. Ohhh, the last one that looks all curvy and the star! Wonderful!
Thanks SO much - an entertaining, informative, educational, inspiring video - who could ask for more?!! Can’t wait to see your Numero Uno artist and how he influenced you. TFS. Jen ❤️❤️
Thank you for a wonderful video, I LOVE that you talk about art history! I completely agree, we are all part of the cycle of art which began as a form of communication, and materials change with the centuries but, it’s all been done before in one form or another. Your tags are awesome and inspiring and I will be checking out more of your videos! 💕🇨🇦
Loved this video. I’m familiar with the artists. Matisse was my favorite when I was younger. I still like him but have expanded more and of course.Kazinsky I love. Thanks for sharing
Love your demonstration in your artistry. It has a feel of a modern look. I love Matisse as well-simplistic but intriguing in shape and movement. Thank you for sharing
I didn’t study art in school so I am thrilled to learn about it from you. What a gift you are offering. So I say, YES please and thank you very much! Looking forward to more.
Hi Tracie, I was looking at some of the books I bought many many years ago. Some of the things I see similar to what you do, so you're right nothing is new. In the books... they used paints, combs, forks, and other things around the house to make designs. It's fun watching you and your way of doing what you do Thanks.
Tracie! That was just fabulous! I would love to have seen the gelli printing in real time, sniffly nose and all! lol Just to get your thoughts on why you did some of the techniques plus some of the acrylics you used? Those last ones with the pouring nozzles? I found your talk on Matisse etc very interesting and you certainly never bore me!!! So glad you share your knowledge with us. Thankyou so much for everything you do. 😊❤️🇦🇺xxx
Enjoyed listening and watching it's 7.30 pm so will, gave to wait until the morning to do my tags . Got to say Tracie I'm really enjoying this , I know I keep repeating myself but I'm loving it . Haven't got a gel plate so I will have to play with my backgrounds a diffrent way . TFS and aslo for the freebies xxx
You can absolutely use a glass mat or sheet of plastic, even a polly pocket. I only recently got the gelli plate, well about a year ago but I did all this before without it! x Go for it hun and have fun x
There is nothing new under the sun...because we are all connected we can not but help but to have the same or similar idea(s) as another. To acknowledge this fact is to keep ourselves at a high level of integrity. Thank you so much for bringing the issue to light. Only God holds the true title of being original...we humans can not boost of anything for there is noting that we have which can not be traced back to God not even our own thoughts. Peace and blessings. Beverly
Love this - I love Matisse and have found his collage work inspiring for a long time. I really appreciate your words on originality, let’s face it, we are all reinventing the wheel in some way! Thank you! ❤️🌺
Thanks you Tracie i enjoyed your beautiful grungy art and your discussion on art and its origins. Over the years I have enjoyed studying many artists and their works and atm my art is inspired by Klimt. I like my scissors too, i don't have any punches so scissors are used for everything. x
Hi Tracie, I really enjoyed this video, and hope you managed to visit Matisse’s exhibition here in London some years ago. His technique of “drawing with scissors” resonated with me and the collages we all do. I think that a series like a challenge -inspired by artists - would be a wonderful idea. Time is not permitting for me to jump into that boat at this stage but others might want to follow.
I am absolutely loving this series. It is great to hear about art history and your inspiration. I love impressionist era. David and I went on a hotel barge and tour of Monet's garden in Giverney. for our honeymoon in 2008.Such a treat. gorgeous tags x Catherine
Thank you for sharing about inspiration, l always say there a few absolute original ideas in art, we all get inspiration from someone else, we play with it, we adapt it to or style or comfort zone.
I have seen some really gorgeous collage art. Like how artist take torn magazine images and use the colors in the images as paint and make like for example a lion. The animal would even have eyes that are alive. Collage has been a big passion for me all my life, like small child and I am now 65. I still don’t think I’m good at it, but I enjoy the process. It is very stress relieving. I see a lot beautiful collage pages from you.
Love your knowledge and you sharing it! I have had a few classes in art history and appreciation. College concentrated on the ‘Old Masters’. It was actually on a cruise that I learned about Kandinsky and Picasso. Share more! Thanks
Nothing is new only rediscover. Not sure if I’d try this but it fascinating and it will probably apply to something without knowing it. So keep showing and teaching.
I’m loving this series! Your tags are lovely 😊 I was thinking you had cool stencils and then you said you made them!!! Looking forward to buying some of yours. I’ve tried to make some but they are a bit wonky, I don’t have a steady hand lol. I enjoyed you talking about artists also, so interesting! Thanks🦋
Another fabulous video in this series Tracie!!! I’m really loving the fact that I’m learning more about artists as part of your series and I so appreciate your sharing!!! It helps set in concrete for me some of the things that I’ve always done, but perhaps now either have an origin or a name lol. Who knew?! This journal speaks sooo loudly to me with its focus on colour, shapes, lines, light and shade!!! This is my jam!!! Hahaha!!! TFS!!! Big hugs, Sharon 🌷💕
Hi Tracie you have really inspired me in my junk journal journey and now I have been inspired to look into the history of art. I have found some amazing books in a second hand book shop with wonderful pages that I can use in my journals 🥰
Thank you for sharing these videos Tracie, I’ve leant so much from them and it has inspired me to try some different things. I’ve always enjoyed drawing, but I know I need to learn more about using different mediums and I will look up the artists you mentioned. Your journal is amazing! xx
Tracie, Just wanted to add to this great video, that you inspired me to look back into Matisse. In art school, many, many years ago, we studied all these creative artists. Lots of them, I just didn't get or understand, let alone appreciate they're works. But now, I have an entirely new way of seeing his work! He was sooo versatile as well! Thank you so much for that lesson and insite Tracie!
Beautiful tags and I'm loving the processes 💜 the art history reminds me of my fashion dressmaking college days 😂, can't wait for the next installment 💜x
Great video Tracie, I really enjoyed learning about these artists. Thank you for sharing. I am a watercolourist but since falling down the journal rabbit hole I have lost interest in painting. sad but honest! lol Lita xx
Tracie, You make a very good point. Where does the art that we are so passionate about, really come from, and who was the artist?? Intriguing. This looks like a fun video, I'm only half way thru here. Also LOVING the gelli prints! Thanks so much for sharing these styles with us.
As a nurse my background has been in the sciences, and my hobbies were crafts such as beading and knitting. Only recently have I entered more into the world of color using paint, collage, and mark making. I appreciate learning the art history and theory aspects where I can, as I have no background in this area. I am mostly finding teachers and influences on RUclips.
Spookily, I made my grand daughter's birthday card like a homage to Kandinsky just last week !! Really like all your tags, might try a Matisse-type one next. Thank you for great video. 💕
These are very arty Tracey and feel organic and from the stuff on your desk it looks like a real artists space! I really love the work of the impressionists and in particular Monet and Renoir and also some of the early Renaissance artists. Any ideas of how to bring those in to crafting?
Beautiful! It is really inspiring. Thumbs up. Thanks for sharing. I have been working on my first, modest and personal junk journal here on my videos at RUclips.
