I will never tire of hearing Larry Kert sing. His performance has this great mix of excitement, tension and hope. Just beautiful

He had one of the great, beautifully intense and strident theatre voices, and it pales to most whiny bari-tenors of today. I know strident has a negative connotation usually, but I don’t mean it to here. It’s just so sharp and terrific.

I wish we could get a video of the OBC doing America. I've been searching for years.

    “Tonight” is such a beautiful
piece, and what great chemistry they had!

I don’t care how old he looked. Not having Larry Kert in the original film was a sin. I really liked Ansel Elgort in the Spielberg. Beymer was borderline ridiculous. But Larry Kert was the only complete Tony. He filled in the character with a mix of restlessness and joy in his acting and singing never seen again.

I couldn’t agree more, Beymer just never felt right for the part, his chemistry with Wood was nonexistent and he just felt very feminine in my opinion. The new WSS is actually extraordinary, Tony is perfect and so are Bernardo,Riff and Anita, Maria not so much but still good. Let’s face it the best parts in WSS are Bernardo, Anita and Riff.

I love this, but I’ll always be salty that Chita was never included in any of these original promo performances. I would love to see how she danced that role back in the day. I suppose it works out since she’s the most legendary and well known member of the original cast, but still…

There's video of her doing Spanish Rose from Birdie on the Sullivan show in 1960 when it was still running and also video of the Shriner Ballet from the 1980s. Not sure about WSS
