    ---------------------
    This is a flight from a class D to another class D, but we'll be picking up flight following on the ground with ground control. Because of this, we'll already be in the ATC's system when we depart and calling the departure controller will be very simple compared to the CAT-05 where we had to "cold call" the departure controller as they knew nothing about us.
    Visit www.pilotedge.net/training to learn more.
    Remember that your flight may be different than what you see in this video based on the weather conditions you are using in your simulator. The wind may favor the different runways when you fly your flight so plan accordingly.

    What an awesome job with these videos, I have learned such a significant amount of information from these informative videos. I appreciate it!

    Note that at 15:48 and onward, the initial contact request doesn't actually include a request for taxi (even though that seems to have been the plan to do so, at least according to the briefing right beforehand), not sure if something got cut out there or not... I made that mistake in my CAT-6 of only requesting Flight Following and then not following it up with a second full request for taxi, so was left sitting in parking for a while :-)

      The controller inferred the pilot was ready to taxi and confirmed with the pilot after the pilot’s readback. The controller likely assumed he was ready to taxi since he included his location on the airfield in the flight following request. But you’re right, there wasn’t an *official* request to taxi. However, the controller was able to read between the lines of the request.

    Nice video, awesome grapihics, very good explication for CAT-6.
    Could you let me know about the graphics video card you use?
    Thanks!!!

    Great stuff on the abbreviation of call signs - as this is actually slightly different in Europe (where I fly IRL): for example, PH-CBN becomes PBN in abbreviated form. One question: how do I abbreviate non-US callsigns (e.g. D-EMHJ) in US airspace?

      @coma13794 3 года назад +1

      You don't, which is why we encourage people not to use international callsigns for GA flights in the US. The reality is, there aren't many C172's flying in southern California with German registratons. When in Rome... :)

      We recently posted about this topic on our Instagram. instagram.com/p/CFNEQC8hcH4/?
      Foreign callsigns cannot be abbreviated, however the FAA supplements that by allowing them to be spoken without phonetics. So either "Papa Hotel Charlie Bravo November" or just "P-H-C-B-N" is appropriate.

      @@pilotedgeATC Thanks - I'll change to US callsigns given coma's comment (to make everybody's life easier ;-))

    Shouldn't you use your full callsign until ATC initiates the use of the abbreviated form? That's how I read AIM 4.2.4 a 2.

    • @pilotedgeATC
      @pilotedgeATC  3 года назад +3

      Correct, that’s why there’s a pop-up note about that in the video.

    Sorry to nitpick but rather than just listen to the real-time ATIS quick, you literally spent at least twice the time talking about how you are cutting the ATIS part out to save time and explaining what other videos we can watch to hear about it. The ATIS is an important part of real world VFR Nav and communication and only takes seconds to listen to. Why cut it out?
    Besides that critique, Great content! Thanks :)

    • @pilotedgeATC
      @pilotedgeATC  3 года назад

      If you continue to watch the videos, you'll see it's cut out of nearly every video after this one. This was simply the explanation as to why it was being cut out from here on out (thus no reason to explain later). As to why cut it out? Because the weather, ATIS code and runway configuration will likely be different whenever you fly this flight therefore the ATIS broadcast when this video was recorded is irrelevant. If you need more practice on listening to/copying down the ATIS, return back to previous videos/CAT ratings before proceeding further.

      @@pilotedgeATC I would have liked to see a discussion on when/how to listen to the ATIS when on flight following without having a 2nd radio.

      Yeah, I’m following the program through the CAT ratings and don’t need an explanation of ATIS repeated in every video. That would prolong these videos making it harder to get through them.
