    Call it a humble brag or whatever, it still makes me happy knowing that I was the person who donated $5 asking him about the barrier skip, and then this happened afterwards. Really takes me back to a better time in my life. I miss this stuff :/

    the devs must have noticed how much you can skip in ocarina of time, so when they came up with wind waker, they probably said "fuck this, those glitch abusers will not pass this barrier". it wouldnt surprise me if they put up another barrier beyond the first ones.

      I doubt it. Wrong warping wasn't discovered until long after Wind Waker came out.

      FailVideosThatFail even without wrong warping, you can still skip a fair bit, i just watched cosmo's MST run and Marco Fernandez i believe it was 2011 or 2012, somewhere around there

      Skips were thought of even during the design of OOT. For example in the Gerudu fortress if you're caught by the guards and you don't have the hookshot, you won't be thrown in the jail, you will be thrown in the river or somewhere near it.

    What's funny is that at 3:02 Link is standing on about the part of the barrier that we later found out could be clipped through with a bomb.

      Oh, so, that was the trick. I could always look up what ways since Linkus 7 I saw helped and first discovered a way after the new version came out but I finished SD version 100% just not HD since my past for what I played. I wasn't one for the glitches and skips over realizing to watch others though that is. I was TTYD successful once with Miss Mouse but it was hard for the Flavio game but it was so funny 😆 though.

      not really. they finally got it and it's implemented in any% speedruns these days. sad thing cosmo isn't here to go along with is. his career died with his "transistion" he completely stopped doing wha people liked hi mfor and now all he does is complain.

    This is one of the coolest videos I've seen. This community gets together and tries to break through this wall that I myself always believed could be passed when I used to play. Maybe one day a method will be found. Just look at the OoT skip that takes you from Gohma to Ganon; that wasn't found for years and years after the game was made. One day...

    Does Forest Water expiring grant the knockback invincibility? If it did, then possibly you could die, start a zombie hover, get knocked back by the barrier in mid air, and when you get back up and resume your zombie hover, have the Forest Water expire on the same frame as the invincibility frames end, granting the knockback invincibility, then zombie hover underneath the physical wall, through the infinite knockback wall, and into the loading zone for Ganon's castle. Do we think this could work?

      It would require insane frame-perfect timing. Definitely not consistently RTA viable without save-resets, but might work. Whoever would be the first to do it RTA would easily get WR, even if everything else in their run was sub-par.

      I remember that you do the HD with the Grappling Hook or some way it slides. Unless I look it up, I don't know to remember the SD way was found after this to skip the barrier for what it was over the hard Fairy hover heal after Zombie without having the Hookshot to finish the game but it looked hard

    What about using storage or other glitches at forsaken fortress in order to manipulate the loading zone that leads straight into Ganon's Castle to be used?
    It's only activated from the inside of the castle but if there's anyone that can find a way around that it's gotta be you guys.

      I agree. Trying to find a way to activate the Forsaken Fortress/Ganon's Tower portal from the outside might be the place to focus efforts at this point.

      Okay, I may have a piece of useful information here. On WWHD at least, Idk about the GC Version, using the WWHD Helmaroc Skip, done improperly, you can clip the wall and fly in a certain part without void warping. My question is, is this the loading zone for Forsaken Fortress 1 or 2 that "leads straight into Ganon's Castle"?

      Will Kamins it would be past fortress 2, since in a normal gameplay you unlock this passage before getting the light arrows in ganon's castle. So I don't know if it's even possible to go through that loading zone from the outside of the castle. I think if it's possible, it would only be done in the gamecube version since there are many more glitches to be exploited.
      The best bet would be during forsaken fortress 2 since you can use the hammer's chest to exploit the storage glitch. although, it's just an idea thrown out there, I'm doubtful it could work.

    Wind Waker HD can skip the barrier, however due to HD having one unique glitch, we can clip past the barrier. If we could gain 5 more units of speed in SD, we could clip through the barrier.

    I bet if the enemies past the barrier were loaded, it would conserve memory for the barrier. I mean that collosal barrier must need lots of memory to be loaded. That's why they thought of removing the enemies when the barrier is still supposed to be there.
    Maybe if there was some way to make the area have too many things loaded, maybe the additional invisible wall wouldn't be there. Like kinda similar to what Cosmo showed with the stacking lasers in OoT Ganon's Castle. That'd be a cool way to Barrier Skip, but I doubt something like that exists in Wind Waker anyway

    What if you went on the exact opposite side of the cylinder (away from Ganon's tower) somehow? So that the knock back is hitting you towards Ganon's tower when you leave the barrier on the other side, and then somehow got that knock back to send you flying further so much so that you can launch yourself out of the top of the barrier. What you'd be able to do after that God only knows but usually the trend I see with the really hard stuff like this is that the speed runner usually figures out a way to use the world's physics against itself. What if the answer to this one is simply extremely counter intuitive and we're all looking at the challenge from the opposite angle?

    I've thought of something, but it might be TAS only. You could get on the ledge, damage yourself with bombs to a quarter of a heart, set down two bombs, have one launch you to the barrier, then get the glitch to stop knockbacks and do a wind waker dive with the bomb on the same frame. Then you could get under the invisible wall and void zone and zombie hover into the loading zone of Ganon's Tower.

    Forest water is just a different way of making storage possible. You still need a cutscene mode that helps you get past the barrier (like a door cutscene, of which none are in Hyrule)

      Curtis Lynch A few things. Cosmo came out as transgender and she now identifies as female with the name Narcissa. She also has had really bad hand issues that have prevented her both from speedrunning and playing smash. Now she mainly has been working on her art because that doesn't aggravate her hand issues.

    Could you perhaps complete the Wind Temple early to trick the game into thinking that you have an enhanced master sword? Of course you'd need to also get the ToC.

      not might, it would be possible. Door storage let's you walk through the damage barrier and the invisible wall

      precisely, for instance link could do an item switch glitch replacing the ocarina with a bottle while frame glitching the sword to be replaced with a door for door storage enabling link to walk on through

    I'm surprised that the barrier goes all the way around like that.
    Plot wise it makes sense cosmetically. You can SEE it going all the way around, but I always just assumed it was all just background design. Yet it has collision properties all the way around?

      If you have a cylinder in your game engine, you just stick a collider component on it. Done.
      What you're failing to realise is - it's infinitely MORE work to make it that only one little section of your cylinder would repel you. You'd have to model a chunk of the cylinder separately, sort out the UVs, place that down invisibly with a collider on it perfectly on top of your other cylinder which is there for graphics, and then at the end of it all you'd end up with a collider which is massively less efficient.
      As for the barrier behind it, they probably added that because they were worried the first barrier might glitch out and push you forwards, so if you hit a straight collider you still wouldn't be able to get through.

    A lot of people seem to misunderstand what forest water storage is. Think about it this way: Storage is actually a two step glitch. Step one is desyncing your cutscene state integer (which tells the game how many layers of cutscene you're in) by doing two cutscene changes on the same frame. The first way is forest water storage - you enter wind waker cutscene at the same time forest water runs out. The second way is dry storage - you exit wind waker cutscene at the same time you land. -cont-

    So to clarify: 1. does the area of the knock-back encompass anywhere outside the barrier, or simply as far as up and down as the barrier itself goes? And 2. Can Link enter loading zones during knock-back? I think the latter is a no, but I'll throw this out there:
    I noticed Link rises slightly when he is knocked back. Assuming you can be under and past the barrier without getting hurt, I wonder if you could go way, way past Ganon's Tower's loading zone while still under it, then rise into the bottom of the barrier and have it rapidly knock you back upwards into the loading zone.

      I have no idea what would and wouldn't work, but suffice it to say, if the speedrunners haven't found it yet, it's not going to be simple.
      As for how the knockback zone works, it's easier to think of it like this:
      1: The entire zone has constant knockback.
      2: There is a Cylinder around Hyrule Castle that prevents knockback.

    Maybe instead of clipping the barrier, you should try to trick the game into thinking your Master Sword is maxed out. Do you think that may be possible?

      RandomTalkingGamer yeah but what DarkLink's saying is if it were possible to make the game think you have an upgraded master sword when you dont, you could just break the barrier with it (and by proxy break the invisible wall)

      NobodyEvenReadsNames It's not the Master Sword that the game keeps track of with breaking the barrier, it's the triforce. It's not possible to break it without all 8 shards.Now, if you could somehow juke THAT out, we may be able to get somewhere...

      Isaac Platt A guy a year ago received the triforce and master sword early(he skipped tower of the gods and then went to forsaken fortress 2) since he never drew the real master sword he could not progress further in the game. The game does keep track of the master sword. we need either wrong warp or find a way to skip earth temple and beat wind temple without Makar. then the game MIGHT think you have a full master sword.

    Both of these step ones - dry storage and forest water storage - have the same effect, which is to set your 'cutscene state integer' to -1. Now when you enter a cutscene, it is incremented by one to 0 - and the game immediately thinks you should not be in any cutscene, so it does all the hard work of preparing for the cutscene (changing Link's hitbox, wind waker mode camera, fading to black or white, etc) and then decides NOT to start the cutscene at all. Forest water storage offers nothing new.

    You can get both forest water and dry storage in hyrule very easily. But there is a lack of things that would have interesting properties to store. In particular, there are no chests or doors (which change your hitbox) to store. KoRL text does not change your hitbox.

    well yes, it would. like a zombiehover would work if you could use the tingle tuner. with bomb hover you would be able to activate the no damage glitch to get through the knockback part and fall down from the ledge and go through under the invisible wall. as cosmo explained, it reaches up until it caps, but on the bottom it is open. when bomb hovering up you need no revival. a problem would be, since there is no blasting mask like in MM, that you would run out of explosives on your way back up.

      +Marth of Altea (The_D0ct0r) Somebody found a glitch where, by abusing how objects in the game are loaded and unloaded, it's theoretically possible to have the barrier simply not load. Research is still being done, as it's not feasible to use the glitch yet for barrier skip, but the glitch is only a few weeks old.

    What amazes me the most is the fact that a single door combined with storage would've broken this wall. The devs for once did an incredibly good seal-off which can't even be broken by a glitch like zombie hover and what not, but a freaking door would've been enough xD

    There are two ways: 1) pull the wind waker on the same frame dry storage expires (obsolete, forest water storage) 2) stow the wind waker on the same frame you land from a wind waker dive (dry storage)

    yes, you can dry storage in hyrule, and you can also get wet storage (forest water). but no one knows of anything useful to use the storage on (such as a door opening cutscene)

    Even if the barrier could be skipped, there would be two possible roadblocks. During the final fight with Ganon, you need to use the Mirror Shield during the second phase, but you don't have it at this point if you were to skip the barrier, and the game might not think you have the Mirror Shield. There's also the fact that you use the True Master Sword during the final fight, not the Hero's Sword you use before getting it, and the game might not register as you having the Master Sword, both for when Ganon knocks it out of Link's hand during the cutscene, and during the actual fight. If both of these were true, it would be impossible to kill Ganon.
    Another possible wall would be if the game still didn't let you access the last part of the game because you don't have the Triforce, something along the lines of the game checking to see that you have it before letting you move on.

      The game actually gives you Mirror Shield when you enter the loading zone after the Puppet Ganon fight (or you do Puppet Ganon skip, doesn't matter), which is why Mirror Shield isn't skipped in Low%. I'm pretty sure it gives you the true Master Sword aswell, but I'm not sure on that.
      The Triforce is not a thing that matters. The Triforce is only important for entering Hyrule for the 3rd time.

      The game gives you the fully charge Master Sword and the Mirror Shield when you enter the Puppet Ganon from Hyrule 2 or 3. If you enter the Puppet Ganon fight from the first visit to Hyrule, the game will crash.

      The only way I can think of would be to unload it somehow, or trick the game into thinking that you are there the second time. Launching Link over it seems a bit far fetched. Trying to damage boost him using the damaging wall has probably been tried, too.

      @@KaeraNeko Turns out you were right for Wind Waker SD. In HD, they just clip through it by getting enough movement speed using item sliding. The SD trick was just found today - there's an infinite arrow glitch that causes the arrows fired not to despawn, so they just keep shooting arrows until eventually the barrier unloads.

    Best solution ever that would never work:
    Find a buffer overflow glitch, maybe through save corruption
    Use it to modify the Y-Axis (height) velocity address (80AB88E0) on command
    And basically just do a super-massive jump over the barrier
    Or use the buffer overflow glitch to patch the code that stops you from going through walls (at 800A38D0)
    Or go for a little bit of arbitrary code execution, call the credits or something, I don't know.

    Yeah. Use text storage on the Tingle Tuner, then go through a door (it has to be a door that you have to use to open).
    Two things could happen: The game might try and load the data for the Tingle Tuner as soon as you store the text, which means you might be able to run around while it's loading. Or, if it only loads once you play the stored text (by using a door or talking to someone for example), you could load it while opening a door which would possibly make it work with the next room.

    You can speedrun anything that can be made faster by playing well. But, in practice, people are more likely to speedrun old games because 1) these games that are being speedran are being chosen for a reason - they have great movement mechanics, lots to optimize and hone to a fine point 2) They're well studied, well known, favourite games that have stood the test of time 3) Old games are easier to theorycraft about in emulators and TAS 4) Indie games with complex movement are also great speedruns

    i think that the only way barrier skip will be found is if someone finds a bug to either: spawn a door (from a bomb or another item) or unloading it. the only other way i see is to somehow store the map screen so that you can use it after going through a loading zone.

    That was a TAS. He had to modify the game to not only have a door ina location where a door shouldn't exist, but he also had to turn on Wireframes to see what he was doing, neither of which are possible in cosmo's standard speedruns.

    Okay, that makes sense. I misunderstood what he said about losing the invulnerability glitch. I don't think an alternate way to get storage would help either, unless you could somehow modify the action you've stored into opening a door. I get the feeling, though, that could only be activated in similar ways to OoT's Wrong Warp if it would even work. It would have to add a value to whatever action is called, which may only work if an action causes a cutscene to occur or something.

    It's possible, but keep in mind that most of the crazy OoT (and by proxy MM) glitches were only found out after WW was released. I'm sure they knew about some of the physics glitches, though.

    The ironic thing is, this is actually like Nintendo. For example, the Majora's Mask final boss has many fail safe measures in place where if you somehow fell out of the map, you'd be warped back into the arena instantly without having to restart the entire battle.
    It'd be nice if they took such measures for everything (or maybe not... because things like storage or wrong warping is really interesting~) but sometimes they just seem to go use a lot of tools to stop players from breaking a game.

    I miss the good old days of OoT and MM. You could fly anywhere you wanted, if you had enough bombs... Not only that, if this was as badly done as OoT, you could use a boss warp, in addition to either a bomb or a door, to allow you to wrong warp either to the credits, ganon's tower, or some other version of Hyrule, depending on what the area codes actually are... I miss those simple times... :,(

    for the moment its not possible but they might be a better way to do storage then storing a door in Hyrule. We can't say its impossible we just don't have the knowledge on a new tactic to clear it.
