I had this car too when I was young. I loved race looking cars. I used to do big races with all my cars. I had a mellow yellow car and a black one that looked just like it but it had different markings on it. I had over a couple thousand of cars in my childhood time
Im pretty sure I got that car with an oval track set in the 70s. That brought back a lot of memories. No video games back then. The cars that came with the original Criss Cross Crash are awesome too. EDIT... Sure enough I was able to track it down. It came with with the Thundershift 500 set... haha. Great set!
Wow I had it when I was a child. Is a very beautiful casting
Came out nice, all it needed was a white stripe on the side of it to look like the famous starsky n hutch car!
Hmm.. Never thought of that!
WheelsNThangs, future project?,maybe!,that would be real cool!
bornagaintorinos.com.....He has pics of all the Starsky Torinos he has built, perhaps you can make a stripe decal from one of the photos.
I was hoping he would
If you really wanted to make it pop a "Zebra 3" stripe (Starsky & Hutch) would have been awesome.
Please do that
Nice job! Just getting into the restore end myself. This is the first of you videos I have watched. I’d like to offer a couple of tips for using decals if I may. First, polish the paint after it has cured out, they work so much better with a super smooth surface. And always top coat water slides. Microscale offers great products, and Krylon Mkrystal Clear is a real good clear laquer I have used on decals in the past. A substitute for oven baking is use a food dehydrator. They are fairly cheap, and you can even get ones with adjustable temp control and timers. As for the chrome base, I have been more that impressed with the Molotow chrome pens. Especially for small areas like the one spot on the rear bumper.
Thanks for the tips! I've since had success with decals, I think these needed the clear but were supposedly already ready. Guess not. Ha! I use Molotow chrome pens in a lot of the videos, just not this one.
I was watching you drill and got shavings in my right eye.
I'm looking forward to getting my tools. I can't wait to start restoring some of my older hotwheels.
It can be pretty fun!
Great job. It looks even better without decals, I would have filed off the casting seams but that is really up to the builder.
Thanks! Yeah, he ended up liking it better without them so all was well.
I found a black Torino Stocker. Not possible for full restoration but i was thinking about customizing it. I like the looks of the body in these.
Do you think the paint stripper you use is better than say Rustoleum ? It's what I use now and the smell is bad and it's hard on everything around it. Water Slide decals should be clear coated before soaking. who ever sold them to you should have told you this or done it before sale. I use water slide all the time they usually don't break down like that. Its what I used on your Van.
great job! i dig these bringing the car back to showroom condition style vod's immensely, in my customs and restos i found taking the extra step of polishing the body before primer or paint goes a loooong ways towards a smoother than factory finish. take the rear bumper of your finished car here, theres a bit of flash along the bumper, a dremel and polishing wheel/compound/toothpaste(the white stuff) smoothes those out or removes them totally.
thanx for sharing the process with us ;) i learned something new today as a bonus ;)
Great tips, subbed ya. Thanks for watching!
Looks good for just a quick restoration!
That would make an awesome Starsky and Hutch car.
Great Video, try a bottom out tap (flat bottom) versus a through tap (pointed bottom) I think you'll be pleased with the results.
Hmm.. I did not know this existed! Do I just search for a flat bottom tap?
Typically called a bottoming or bottom tap. goo.gl/vRLJEg
As the name implies it allows you to tap a hole that does not go through the material. Typically if you use a through tap you do not get a good thread at the base (bottom) of the hole due to the taper. A bottoming tap will eliminate this and provide a much more stable thread for the screw to adhere with.
Thank you so much, I'll order on this evening!
Happy to help. Thank you for keeping so many wonderful memories alive for the young at heart!
Decals are a patience test to say the least. Don't know if I would attempt decals that small on a 1/25 scale never mind 1/64, appreciate the effort, great restoration 👍👍
Thanks! Yeah, I've dealt with larger ones before but these seemed to be garbage. Never again :)
Awesome I think it needs a blown chrome engine I think that would make that nice paint job stand out more.
I wanna make the handle you're using to hold the body. Love it lol
amzn.to/2vxJpsI
Nice work!
Thanks!
I had this model when I was a kid. I stripped the decals and put Starsky and Hutch stripes on it with white masking tape..:)
:)
Great restoration
Thanks!
Have you ever use powder coating? Came out nice thanks for sharing !
J L Thanks! No, if I have an oven and a gun I would try!
Very nice. Not a fan of restorations, but sometimes it is needed.
Thanks!
Great video.
Thanks!
Looks nice. Too bad about the decals.
Thanks! Yeah, it was a bummer but he preferred it without so all was well.
WheelsNThangs where do u get your cars from?
Bannana Plays ebay
I had the same problem with water slides from them recently. Made the best of a bad situation.
I thought maybe it was just me. They were pretty bad.
Love it!!!!
Suggestion: On your windshields, there is a plastic polish that I use and it works great. Its called Maguiar's Plast-X, Works wondering on windshields that are old, dirty, and cloudy.....Also, I heard you bake your castings after painting....I do as well, but I heard you bake at 220 degrees for 30 minutes? Isn't that a bit to hot?....I've experienced baking upwards of 200 degrees and for 20 minutes and the paint started to bubble........I do not go past 150-175 degrees for 30 minutes then let cool for another 30 .........minutes.......There are also others on EBAY that have great waterslide decals for Redlines that are very well done.....Great job and good luck...
Great tips! Actually metal polish works well for the windows as well believe it or not. I've baked every car 220 for 30 minutes with no bubbling at all. Maybe it's the type of paint?
I get all my paint from Redlineshop.com.....and I'm used a small convention oven I bought from Walmart for $18 bucks.....I'll have to try that medal polish.....but the plast-x works really well....
Cool looking car. I wouldn't have used the decals either.
Awesome vid I love hot wheels. I'm more of a Mopar fan my favorite car is the 2009 Father's day 70' hemi challenger I destroyed mine trying to fix the back wheels. I still love the car and I've decided not to fix it.
Thank you! Yeah, wheels can be a pain!
Planning to take up Hot Wheels restoration as a retirement hobby in a few years, so have begun purchasing some "projects". What about finding parts? I noted Red Line Shop has some windshields and hoods, but not all models are available. Are there other sources for parts? Question 2: Can original torsion axles with bearings be replaced? Parts? Thanks.
I've only found them on the RLS and eBay. You can replace the axles and bearings but I've only seen them on eBay as well.
My fav HW ever !
Can you do a restoration of a Hot Wheels 1977 Ferrari?
Superb
Sharp looking car
Can spray paint be used effectively?

Noel Cerritos ¡Hola Noel! La rosca del tornillo es 2-56. Mira la descripción debajo del video. Los artículos que necesitas son Tap Set y Screws.
what do charge for restoration
How rare is the car?
Hmmm i have it and need to restore. Do you have the decals to print?
I purchased the decals from the Redline shop.
WheelsNThangs Thank You!!
do you have video on restoring the windows?
Not a dedicated but I do show it in some of my latest videos. The Military Van one is pretty bad and we bring it back!
What's the thing that makes the car spin so we can see
amzn.to/2weYnV2
The Monte Carlo stalker from the same here has the exact same interior so if you need one that's got a better hood scoop for your Torino stocker just swap Interiors from the Monte Carlo to the Torino
Good to know!
Just curious, How would you restore the base on this car?
Since it's plastic I would just sand a little and paint in chrome.
Was thinking that too
i like to restore a brown hot bird, do you do that? if so how much. thanks ..
I could but not sure how soon I'd get it done. I don't get much time to dedicate to this.
Ok no prob. I thought you did it on side. Thanks
Where do you get all the tools from I have Hot Wheels to restore
I have everything listed in the description below the video.
WheelsNThangs Thanks
Can you give me the link for this handle?
It's similar to one of these, I just took the driver out and replaced it with the tap. amzn.to/2wTRYxs
Do a lime boss hoss
I always worry about your Apple Watch when you are using the airbrush!
Gets paint on it all the time :) Wipes off.
You do a mistake on the website link in Description ()
Other thing, how much cost a complete Restoration?
Hmm.. I don't think so. I dunno how much, I'd have to come up with the time first. That seems to be what I'm lacking most.
It's the red Thunder master 500 car..__.._cool
Do you remember if he finished it?
I don't believe so. I may get it back and re-do her.
@@WheelsNThangs
Well! That was pretty inconsiderate of him, tell him that you and I want to see it finished.... Sheesh 🙄
Hahaha 😉
why you always erase the flags and stamps from the good and the Doors of the car??
I got the same frikin car but no redline on the wheels 😥
God dang it you got it before me
Ha!
back before hot wheels got stupid creative
For sure!
Please apply 2k lacker
It SUCKS you didn't show you putting on the decals you didn't fix the windows
I have one but its covered in white paint
I probably did the same thing as a kid :)
Ashame about the decals, I would like to have seen how it looked with them in place
Yeah, I'm not the best with them but these ones were pretty crappy :(
I have the Stockar 1989!!!
So, drill bit, tap and air brush with paint. Man, not in turribl shape. Mushroom top indeed.
Yep
Could have Filed down the Slag/Molding Lines.
I don't have that kinda time on my hands and these are literally given to a 4 year old shortly after they are filmed.
What is a redline
Wyatt 101 It refers to the original Hot Wheels Cars which have a thin red line around the walls of the tires. They also have removable tires (small white plastic bearing on the axle) and the axles are crimped in such a way that there is something like suspension on them. You can press them down slightly and when you let go, it kind of bounces back up again. Later models which have the red line on the tire but that cannot be removed, are not technically Red Lines.
Doesn't look much different than the Monte Carlo stocker from '77
I have one of these and bought the new car for 5 dollars.
I prefer Matchbox.
and?
