My take on the economy is times are really bad when a 20- something woman like Tomi is forced to be an alt right brand ambassador / social media influencer.
its such a sad state seeing her play this "character"as an independent contractor no benefits no healthcare she just gets tossed around used up and spit out.

Tomi couldn't help but show her true colors there at the end. She's mean spirited and full of crap, and she showed it. Kudos to Ana for remaining classy.
Notice the difference between how Tomi and Ana handled the booing from the audience. While Ana calmly asked the crowd to be respectful, Tomi responded with a nasty, obnoxious, temper tantrum towards the audience.
Did Tomi literally just say that Americans aren't really struggling? I knew she was disconnected from reality but not this badly.

Dear Tami I am an full-time employed woman in America. I have a degree, I am an RN. My income has stayed stagnant but my income tax has increased and my "benefits" cost has increased. So I am 1 example of how this "great" economy is working for the average person.
This is unfair.. Ana is clearly way too advanced for Tomi..

Where’s my income raising? I haven’t seen one red cent higher from Obama to trump. All I’ve seen is gas prices rise, milk prices rise, bread prices rise, house prices rise, rent climb, services cost more. I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE cent higher pay yet.

"The median income has increased by $5,000." I hate that argument. That comes from the census bureau, which amounts to a 0.8% increase. Meanwhile, inflation this year is about 1.7%. When properly accounting for inflation, pay has NOT increased.
I would also like to point out how misleading that statistic is. How is the median calculated?
I could be paid $100, and Bill can be paid $5,000,000. Median is $2,500,050.
If then go down to $90, but bill went up to $5,001,000
Median has gone up by $495
X Variable is pointing out that an average increase does not mean that everyone benefits equally. I think this point has been brought up before, but the data I saw doesn't really suggest that the mean is significant skewed by top earners. Wage distribution in the US seems to be a fairly decent bell curve (peaking in the $50k - 75k range). That still means 38% of the US is making less than $50k. It's also worth noting that the truly wealthy tend to earn through means other than a traditional salary, so they may not be considered in this metric.

The accounting firm I was at worked for small businesses, nonprofits, and individuals. After the "tax cuts" 90% of the clients saw they had to pay more in taxes. I've tried to point this out but people say well I wouldn't want you for an accountant or that I'm delusional and how people are getting $50 - $100 more per paycheck. Anyone who still believes this please look at data directly from the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics and the US Beureau of Economic Analysis because it shows how average wages overall did not increase while the top 10% sky rocketed

As far as I can tell, middle class doesn’t exist anymore. It’s a sharp divide between the vast majority of people living paycheck-to-paycheck and people who are well off. There is no middle.

In the battle of wits Tomi is certainly unarmed. All I can say is the day after Biden became president elect my stocks have gone up and continue to rise weekly. They remained stagnant or with minimal rise the last 4 years. As far as the $5k a year rise in income as Tomi says was so great it is chump change compared to what companies have profited without having to pay taxes. And lastly, Ana hit it dead-on about the increase in jobs. I'm employed in healthcare and I can tell you that fulltime jobs have become a thing of the past. Hospitals no longer want fulltime or very few fulltime employees. Hospitals today are mainly run with part time or contingent staff that are struggling to get enough hours to make any money. Wake up America! The wealthiest companies in the country need to PAY TAXES just like the rest of us. I don't need them to give me money, I just want them to contribute to the tax pot. It's not rocket science!

There is a difference between unemployment rates and in-work rates. Unemployment can go down if people give up trying to get a job. They become "economically inactive".
But the bigger issue is in-work poverty. Millions are in work but broke.
Ana was absolutely amazing in this debate. She was composed, well researched, and compelling in her arguments. Her experience as an educator absolutely shined because while she was indeed debating Tomi, she was absolutely speaking to the people in the audience. I wish I was there to see this live!

Exactly, unfortunately people are unable to understand that Obama spent his 8 years building the economy back up following the disastrous Bush years and the 2008 recession that was caused by those Bush years. So when you look at Obama's economy, it is important to remember that he was playing recovery and rebuilding. Now Trump is coasting on the result of 8 years of Obama recovery work, but the economy is actually heading towards another recession now because of Trump's actions in the last 3 years.
