A 3KM Hike-a-Bike | Central Ontario Bicycle Tour: Ep. 3
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 сен 2021
- Day three of my seven-day Central Ontario Bicycle Tour. I start my day at the Trent Severn Lock Station 42, Couchiching and travel south through the Township of Ramara to McRae Point Provincial Park.
This day, although short, proved to be very challenging due to a 3 KM hike-a-bike I had to take on a rocky side road. Riding it would have caused a puncture or damaged the bike, so I opted for walking. It was quite the walk ... Day four was my rest day and I spent it with a friend who joined me at the Provincial Park.

That 360:shot near the end was great!
Thank you. I do like working with the 360° camera.
Beautiful country!
I agree. Thanks for watching.
That was a nice ride, and buying fresh veggies along the road is always a pleasure for me also.
Great video! I rode a couple of the sections on my cross Canada trip. Cheers
Oh my goodness! Hello Dean. Thanks so much for watching.
Living in rural Alberta, I completely understand the gravel roads...the struggle is real!!
Thanks for finding my channel! Yes, that particular gravel road was a "show stopper" and not in a good way.
Wow you're way up there, looks nice at Mcrae point.
Yes. I initially started my ride in Utterson, Huntsville area.
Keep em coming !! Love your videos xx Keep Safe!
Thanks for your ongoing support Sheila.
I ride this type of road all year and for the past 20+. The marathon plus will handle that road and much worse with ease. No fear of punctures.
Thanks for letting me know. With the experience I now have with the bike, I would've ridden that road as well.
I always travel with spare tubes, but I have yet to travel with a spare tire (maybe I should?). Without a spare it is a good idea to take a cautious approach. I have ridden some stuff on my Continental Top Contacts that pushed the limits. I was on a trail this summer where even the ATVs quit and turned around.
Hey Caleb! Thanks for watching. Last year, when I toured on my gravel bike I did take a spare tire (I could fold it). In hindsight, that was overkill, but ... people do it for longer tours. Where were you riding this year that you ended up on these rough trails?
@@WheelsonaBike I was riding the ATV trail that parallels highway 7 on my way home from Ottawa. The trail varies in quality from Smith Falls to Tweed.
Great video, it looked like a nice day of riding! I haven't stayed at McRae Point before, how was it? I never really feel like I can trust Google Maps for cycling directions. When planning a tour I usually will use Google Maps directions as my starting point, but because I'm really particular about what types of roads I like to ride on, I will go through the effort of scoping out the different roads ahead of time using Streetview (when possible) and making tweaks to the route accordingly to avoid busy roads or gravel roads.
The park was nice enough, a great hiking trail around it, beautiful views. We stayed at an electrical campsite surrounded by trailers, I wasn't used to that kind of camping based on previous experience, but it wasn't too bad. I stayed at Bass Lake Provincial Park last year, which is close by, and I would recommend that over McRae Point.
Interesting hearing your thoughts on Google Maps. I'm always a bit apprehensive when I have to reroute with it, as sometimes it gets interesting.
with google maps bike route suggestion, its almost a death wish. some car lobby paid google to do this, who knows
Your tires will handle gravel roads just fine...don't worry.
If I may give you some advice, Film more of the surroundings and also put yourself in the picture while cycling. It's a bit boring just seeing images of the road in front of you. Keep goiing!
Thank you for the constructive feedback. I am new to filming and storytelling so any piece of advice that will help improve the quality of the videos is greatly appreciated. While I cannot change the footage I captured for this trip, I can make filming changes in my upcoming trips. Thank you.
@@WheelsonaBike i know. I have seen all your video's. I also make videos of my bike tours as a woman alone. we need to help each other a little ;-)
Yes! I am subscribed to your channel as well and follow your journeys. I love following other female cyclists, especially those who venture out on solo tours. It's a great learning experience for me and also helps break down some of the preconceived ideas.
@@WheelsonaBike Your audio is super clear. So many video's are drowned out by music overpowering it. I like a good story of the trip.
Thank you. It took a while to figure out my audio while riding, and I'm glad you appreciate the clarity. Thanks for watching.
Looks like a bumpy ride for part of your trip! Have you had to repair a flat on your Kona yet?
No, I have not. The tires are amazing. I had multiple flats on my gravel bike. Have you had any flats on yours?
@@WheelsonaBike No, not yet. I was on some pretty gravelly roads this weekend and did just fine. It will happen one day I am sure!
I also rode a lot of gravel roads on my 7 day trip and aside from this one day where I opted to walk my bike, the tires have been amazing. I know that Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires are difficult to remove, I wonder if the same is true for the Mondials. I hope not.
@@WheelsonaBike I carry zip ties with me just in case to assist me in getting the tire back on.
I don't know that trick. How do you use zip ties to help putting a tire back on?
