Was just at my Toyota dealership in Oregon. They have one model of EV. Looks like a smaller RAV4 with estimated 222 mile range for 46,000.00 Ugh! It's cold now, so I seriously doubt it would travel 222 miles with heater on, seat heaters, etc. Ugh!
Also in Oregon. We looked into one, the Bz4x. Its a joke. The battery size, and charge rates are not competitive against anything, especially at that price. We ended up buying a model y long range, mostly because of the federal rebate and the charging network. That being said, with the new Ioniq 5 getting at least some of the rebate, and getting the NACS port, I would probably get that today, especially since you get Carplay\Android Auto with it.
If you're looking to buy an EV stay away from Toyota. I know someone who bought the Bz4x because he is a loyal customer. traded it in for the hybrid model because he was only getting about 100 plus in the range.
If you're recharging in your driveway or garage everynight 200 mile range just really doesnt matter much. EV manufacturers would be smart though to include a range extender during this transition time.

Now all the sudden he’s the worst person ever. You have no principles, whatsoever.
Yes, I should imagine somebody in California is making a lot of money with all those EVs around. AAA has announced the Average annual cost of vehicle ownership: The cheapest is a Hybrid. Average annual cost of ownership: $9,476 Next is the Gas-powered vehicle. Average annual cost of ownership: $10, 557 The most expensive is the Electric Vehicle. Average annual cost of ownership: $12,527.
Yes, Musk is pushing Trump to eliminate tax credits on EVs to squeeze out his US competition, as he knows they are not EV profitable right now, unlike Tesla. Pretty transparent. Resultingly, Newsom is being equally transparent in exempting Tesla from receiving California rebates. So Ford and GM and Stellantis should be happy with CA. But on the downside, it won't help CA to optimize their overall numbers of electric vehicles, which is the main goal. Politics has really gotten fun in America, and will only get 'funner'.
There is a clear correlation between the price of gas and the adoption of EV's. In my country, the Netherlands, a gallon of gas costs about $8 (about 70% of this is taxes) sales of BEV are @35% Hybrids are @45% and gas and diesel sales are less than 20% For me it's an obvious choice the US government could easily make: Put a couple of dollars of taxes on a gallon of gas, and use that money to build EV charging infrastructure. From that point, the whole transition to electric transportation will fly by itself
'Public fast charging' in california is 'operated' by private companies, so effectively there is no public fast charging. Otherwise they wouldn't get away which exorbitant margins and constant outages
yes it's funny no one ever says a public petrol station, I guess it's because there is almost no one with his own fuel pump in his backyard (except for some farmers)
Awesome. When you run out of electricity in the hot summer months like the least 5 years and the government starts calling for brown outs do you plan on walking?
Not property tax, property cost. Property tax percent is limited by law and once you buy cannot rise more than 2% per year. Income tax for high earners in notable, but there is no tax on Social Security nor is there any inheritance tax.
There´s a reason to call California the "Sun State". The richer half of Californians can afford to install the solar panels on their private home to heat the pool and charge the EV for free as the sun is not yet taxed in California (unlike Germany or Spain in the EU). They also tend to own two of those, so one is charging, the other driving. EVs are still a novelty, many owners of ICE vehicles buy the EV as second or third car to try out or for business purposes/ tax credits. The reality in 2024 is still that 3 out of four Californians did not buy an EV, they bought an ICE. Corrected: "In 2022, California had the most automobile registrations: almost 13.8 million such vehicles were registered in the most populous U.S. federal state. California also had the highest number of registered motor vehicles overall: nearly 31.1 million registrations." As for Gov. Gavin, he´s not pushing EVs, he´s verbally hitting at Musk - with a stance that says a lot about his character. Let´s see if (and for how long) he´ll keep what he´s just advertizing for now.
The constant drumbeat of negative stories about California is right-wing jealousy. Fud. Just like with Tesla. Seems like the state just grows and grows. It's not perfect but let's apply some thinking to the FUD.
Musk wishes to leave California, but the engineers that he needs for Tesla aint going anywhere else. Same with SpaceX, which is why it has a plane that shuttles employees form Socal to Texas daily

Also, CA now has a surplus of solar energy and not enough storage capacity, so they are selling electricity at a discount to NV and AZ. EV's could be a big part of that storage capacity.
Smoking something on your birthday buddy? Say - that figure is surely wrong; unless you've now decided to include PHEVs and Hybrids as EVs. As of the end of 2023 a year ago - the total number of registered BEVs in California was 388,000. To add 1.7 million in 2024 would be nearly impossible because Californians have only purchased 1.75 million cars and light trucks so far in 2024. If 25% were BEVs that would be 425,000 a total of 800,000 or so BEVs in a state with 31 million light vehicles that is a mere 2.5% of all light vehicles in the California.
it's great. Too bad for Tesla that the demand for their cars has cratered since Elon Musk decided to become a politician. The good news is that this creates a great opportunity for others. As for concerns about excluding Tesla from the $7.5k incentive, this would be a good thing for EV adoption in general. And who knows, perhaps with this threat hanging over him, Trump will reverse course to protect his puppeteer. Poetic justice.
The Tesla situation is personal. Elon has bad words for Gavin and the feeling is mutual. Elon is moving everything from California to Texas. Gavin should have a huge issue with that. California is the reason Tesla was able to build what it is today with all the incenses to help with FSD, production, innovation and the list goes on.
Why should Tesla benefit of the state incentives when they are part of the reason the federal incentive might go away. Tesla can't benefit of both worlds.
Tesla is probably the last manufacturer of anything but military weapons in CA. CA is run by rich lawyers for the benefit of rich lawyers. They have destroyed all the middle class manufacturing jobs, along with the middle class. Any talk about ideals is BS - it’s about the voracious greed of this unproductive legal aristocracy.
