I feel like Horford deserves at least an “On the Cusp.” He’s a two time NCAA champion, 5 time all star, made an all defensive team and an All-NBA team, and he’s an NBA champion as a starter. He has pretty ridiculous longevity for a guy at his position and wherever he went, he won a lot.

LaMelo over Zion doesn't make sense to me. Feels like the same tier. Both guys have been super injured to start their careers. But we've seen that when Zion is healthy, he looks like a top 10 player who can carry a team. LaMelo still has some real issues with efficiency even when healthy. Plus, Zion has an extra All-Star appearance and is more likely to get All-Star appearances over the next few years due to being on a better team. Also, Zion won NPOY in college.

They have played the same amount of games even though Zion was drafted a year earlier. Zion just can't stay healthy and is obviously too injury prone, so he's on the wrong track. LaMelo isn't perceived to be injury prone fs so no reason to believe he's on the wrong track and will be injured as much as Zion going forward.

SROS, 3 of the tiers are for "if he retired today" and 2 are future predictions for current/younger players. Which means they're no longer tiers, just different categories. For example with Aldridge ranked "higher" than Embiid. Why not have the same criteria for all tiers? Like "in 50 years, how likely is it he's in the HOF". Both rookies and retired players would be ranked on the exact same basis and the tiers could fall from most likely to least likely.

When you play in big games with big players over and over again and you still have so much importance on the outcome off the game, then you are simply one off the best players. Stats are not everything. Is about winning and these dudes just get it. As a high end role player if you find yourself important in few series that's one thing, but when it happens all the time then you are great.

The thing you’re missing is that scoring or some other gaudy stat is going to attract voters attention. The reason Thompson is a first ballot Hall of Famer is because he holds multiple scoring records including the ridiculous most points in a quarter record that will probably never be broken. Add four rings to that on teams where he was the second or third best player and he’s automatic.
You were right and then changed your mind about Luka. In addition to the all NBA selections, All-Star selections, conference finals MVP and scoring title, he is the third leading scorer in NBA history at 29 PPG in the regular season. He’s the second leading scorer in playoff history. On top of that, he’s almost averaging a triple double for his career. If he retired today he would be a first ballot Hall of Famer and the only question would be if it was unanimous or not.

Al Horford is definitely on the cusp and I think he gets in. He was literally the first guy off the bench for 2023-24 Celtics and started the majority of playoff games when KP went down. We aren't talking about some former All-Star who joins a contender in the last year of his career and plays 5 minutes a game. And he was a major piece on back-to-back NCAA championship teams. It's the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame.

great video for doing so many players at once. Horford and Lopez I think have a way higher chance of making the HoF. With Horford he was able to be one of the more important players on loaded Boston teams in the post season , They would have needed him badly If Giannis wasn't hurt and seems to be able to still give you 35 points in a post season game. Lopez , he has been part of a core that has I think has an all time great finals run , again another player that can still put up 30 points in a post season game and the way he transformed his game makes in stand out a lot more then you think.
Murray is damm near a role player at this point for The Nuggets , I get with the injuries but he is "meh" in the regular season so when he plays bad in the post season as well like this season it really hurts his career when you look at it. depending on If The Nuggets string a few together and he is on the team he will get in then just because of Jokic.
Finally , overall I do feel like you were being a little harder then the HoF will be but better then soft.

    1. He's up there with the most liked players in league history.
    2. Unlike MLB and NFL, winning an MVP in the nba pretty much guarantees youre a hall of famer so i think the voters will induct him just on that alone. I doubt the media wants to break that streak. Plus the fact he might get some pity votes for him being a what if.
