Thank you! Searched for this song for hours. Only thing I could remember was ‘living on the edge’ but the only thing that came up was Aerosmyth nonsense. This brings back memories.
You wouldn't think from that gruff looking exterior comes a beautiful pristine sounding voice!! He should have been as commercially successful as Winwood. He was just as talented.
One of the forgotten classics they played on MTV. If it wasn't for MTV, i would have never heard this great song! This video(song) is an example of what a cool and unique thing we had back in the early 80's. MTV would eventually turn to shit, but not before it opened my eyes and ears to some great music!!
Who is listening to the song in 2020. Brings back memories of the early 1980s. This has to be 1982? First time I heard this song was on DC 101 driving too work getting stoned .
It was on the afternoon of August 3, 1983 when I first heard this song that was playing on a Denver radio station as my law school friend and I were driving cross country through Eastern Colorado. This song has stuck with me over the years only to rediscover it on RUclips!! Sounds little like Joe Walsh In the City! Great hit!
Nifty keyboard intro. This is what was on the radio in 1982. Makes me wonder why people don't like music any more? At least from what I hear these days, it isn't "real" music.
Awesome song, blasts of memories every time I hear that song !!!!!! When music really was MUSIC !!!!!!!! Jim had a huge contribution to the music world !!!?
Remember this classic from a teenager on MTV Escapism that what I do Just heard its program go of in my head and suddenly found it. I wonder how many other brothers know about Jim Capaldi?
A great Jim Capaldi/Steve Winwood collaboration, albeit with Capaldi taking center stage. Capaldi sings lead and plays drums, and Winwood plays all guitars and keyboards. Winwood also produced. Capaldi is credited as sole songwriter, but he said in interviews that Winwood cowrote the music.
First time I heard this song I was on the Capital Beltway 495 listening to the Greaseman Show on DC 101 smoking weed and driving to Virginia to put a roof on back in 1982 . 😎🇺🇸
@@prismblue5463 I was just a baby when he passed, all I have is a pic with him and some records he left for me, but for what people say, I guess he was really great.
When this song was new, it was a swan song. Think about this paradox: A music video on MTV about spirituality, non-conformism, and rejection of materialism.
Man, did the singer really have the nerve to jump on the drums and play the drum fill for the camera? I can't believe I saw that. (3:01) and some at (3:21)... talk about nerve.. or maybe the director told him to do it.. but still "Hey drummer, I'm the front man, and you kind of don't exist as I see it..I think I'll play one of your fills for the camera as if I'm also the drummer AND the front man.. yeah.." Edit: I just noticed each scene is after the eagle..so maybe the eagle told him to do it. I can't tell.
He did. According to Capaldi, even though the song’s credited entirely to him, Winwood wrote the music. He also played guitar, supplied background vocals and co-produced “Fierce Heart.” Capaldi and Winwood remained friends and collaborative partners long after Traffic ended, and he’s played on all of Capaldi’s solo albums except for one.
mtv played more music it would not be so shit now. sky one in the early 00s used to play music in the early hours of the morning.does anyone remember it?
Great song....still listening in 2023. Yeah good music dont die.
This takes me back to a 18 inc rca tv watching MTV on betamax tapes.
Great Tune!

You wouldn't think from that gruff looking exterior comes a beautiful pristine sounding voice!! He should have been as commercially successful as Winwood. He was just as talented.
The record is Winwood apart from Capaldi on lead vocals and drums. Winwood produced it and played all guitars and keyboards.

Thanks for posting this GREAT song! Takes me back to a great time.
Not played on the radio much and hadn’t heard it since 1982. Brings back memories.
I remember driving to work and listening to this song I think the year was 1982. The grease man on DC 101 played this song all the time on his show .
Nifty keyboard intro. This is what was on the radio in 1982. Makes me wonder why people don't like music any more? At least from what I hear these days, it isn't "real" music.
I remember hearing this song when it first came out. A great song that I still love just as much today as I did when I first heard it.
I only heard it a few times and had a difficult time finding it.
One of my favorites when I was a kid.
Jim was the Greatest!
Great song, thanks for posting! Rest in peace legendary Traffic drummer, Jim Capaldi.
Wonderful. RIP, dear Jim. 💜🙏✝️

oh snap. That video is hilarious, and im really feeling this.
Yours Truly,
That Damn Millennial.
I wasn't into Traffic's music much, with the exception of *"Mr. Fantasy."* But Jim's solo work is fabulous...
When this song was new, it was a swan song. Think about this paradox: A music video on MTV about spirituality, non-conformism, and rejection of materialism.
WXRT 93.1 played this alot.
The guy on the synthesizer looks like Jeff Foxworthy.
Great tune! But really MTV, this song wasn't off the Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros album, it was off of Fierce Heart.
blown22 Yeah, it happened with whatever percentage of videos during its A to Z marathon with that album glitch.
jim's a great vocalist...i wished he sang more with traffic.

Rebop!
Pretty sure Steve Winwood plays keyboards on this track.
Looks like Tony Iommi

Came here for Aerosmith. Stayed here anyway.
It drives me nuts when people play guitar in a music video while there's no guitar in the song.
Lots and lots of guitars!
needs faster cowbell.
