I just got diagnosed and have to wear the first AFO you showed in the first picture. The solid plastic one. I cant find shoes to wear and don’t know what to do when I have to go to the doctors or church. This has made me have to stay home completely from everything except doctors appointments. My depression has shot way up from this.

The solid plastic AFO is so difficult to fit into shoes. There are better AFO's that are now available that fit much better into shoes. Visit with your podiatrist and see what alternatives there are to get you in a newer device. I hope this helps you physically and emotionally.

I wore one on my left leg because I had severe foot drop, occurring because I have a neurological disorder called syringomyelia. The problem is the spasticity associated with this disorder causes some of my joints to twist, making the brace pretty much useless over time. I even broke two chromed tungsten replacement elbows, because of the charcot joint.

Why does all of these videos talk about over pronation, drop foot etc. I was born with club foot and have a surgically fused foot. I have a really high arch and my I walk on the outer edge of my foot., the callous build up is immense .
None of you guys ever talk about this condition and it is very hard for us that suffer this, to find any help.
I have an appointment with an orthotist in London in a few weeks (London Orthotics Consultancy) and I am hoping he will be able to help. He has seen my X-rays and said he is definitely up for a challenge!

The hardest thing about my mothers AFO is finding a shoe that it will fit into. The materials used by the manufacturer are extremely thick and don’t fit into any shoes. We even tried Billy’s Footwear and still they didn’t fit. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I think we’re gonna have to go the custom made shoe route. 😔

Try looking for extra depth and wide shoes. New Balance makes some. So do other companies like Drew and PW Minor. AFOs are hard to fit into shoes sometimes, but you should be able to find a shoe to fit into.

@@DrAndrewSchneider I’ll look into Drew and PW Minor. New Balance too. Thank you for relying and for the suggestions. Much Appreciated.
