    Omg, Robyn!!!! You are the only person who will understand my complete excitement right now! It is 11 o’clock on a Monday in Georgia and I am just Cruisin checking out my thrift stores and I just found an unopened pack of Southworth typewriter paper 409ER onion skin 500 sheets!!!! But the best part is it was only $4.80!!!! I can’t wait to try your old wall technique on my new find!!!!

    Robyn you’re very inspiring, thanks for your videos! I empathize with you on that pesky southwest sniff. It drove me nutz until my doctor prescribed Ipratropium Bromide (generic name). I live in Las Cruces, NM and I relate to the dust/wind. Couldn’t loose what I used to call “the las cruces sniff “. 😄
    And I’ve learned SO much from you, you are truly a great artist.

    I have finally had time to work on my Gelldex. I couldn't stop yesterday. I was sewing fabric on cards and attaching metal pieces. I love this. It is such an expression of me, my color preference...... I did so many cards and thought they weren't good but when I begin to collage and put them together....Wow I love this. Robyn you are such an inspiration and share your gifts so generously. Thank you.

    I love watching you make your lovely prints with loads of layers of crusty bits and mica. I find mica along our country road, and they can be torn into little bits, they can be colored with alcohol ink, and cut into shapes. I haven’t tried my bits on the gel plate, but I will now. Thanks, Robyn.

    Your video is the perfect example of why artists should follow the rule: Never assume. Which means, really, be willing to experiment. I will confess that I would have assumed that mica would not have adhered. Thank you for trying this! I also so liked your gold leafing the cards. Since I didn’t want the gold leaf tinted by the acrylic paint, I used clear golden glaze (I chose satin) for the ‘paint” layer, and got wonderful results.

    Your shower mat reminds me that I have several sink protectors/ dish drainers that have patterns in them-there are lots of them in Europe so look when you are here. And how do your hands always look so good? Mine are covered in paint or chapped from frequent washing!

    Is there any reason not put the flakes down first, so they would end up on top? Would it hurt the plate? I love how they look hidden under the paint, but I’m curious how they would look on top (if I don’t like it, I can put another layer on them!). ❤️

    I heard some very good advice on the COPPA thing- just ignore it. You don't cater to children and if they watch, that is on THEM, or their parents, not you. It's time parents start parenting and take the responsibility of blocking certain content on THEIR end. Sorry- I ranted. Have a great end of the year and move. I look forward to seeing how you move on with these cards......

    • @osofine23
      @osofine23 4 года назад

      Mo Mapes Do you have kids? I’m just wondering, because there was a time I would have agreed with you (and used to say myself) that parents need to take responsibility for the content their children consume. Then I had a a kid who was reading entire children’s novels (Roald Dahl, Beverly Clearly) at age 4 & 5. By second grade, they really wanted to read Harry Potter and I decided that the first book was “appropriate” (the word “appropriate” had become a very frequent part of my vocabulary), but they would have to wait until they were older to read the later books. So my kid started reading the later books at school, in the classrooms that had them during reading time (and when they were bored, which was often!) or time in the school library. I would never, ever advocate for schools or libraries to ban books! By 3rd grade my kid had read all of the HP books... and a lot more.
      Then a family member gave my kid an iPod Touch. I can set rules limiting screen time , though that becomes more and more difficult as they get older and most of their social life is online (kids don’t talk on the phone anymore!), but it’s pretty hard to police what sites they are visiting (especially on the school bus, at friend’s houses, etc.). Then the school system gave every kid in the grade a Chromebook that they HAD to use for schoolwork and homework... and guess what you could access on that? RUclips! Little by little (and then really quickly by the tween years), I had no control over the content my kid was accessing. I (and every other parent) have other things I need to do other than following my child around looking over their shoulder at what they are viewing! Child blockers/Net Nannies are a joke (especially if you have a smart kid)!
      The best I can do as a parent is to keep an open dialog with my child about what they are interested in and doing. Kids (mine, at least), *want* to talk about their favorite RUclipsrs, books, games, etc.! If you listen to them, I’ve found that they’ll listen to you when you talk about the myriad problems with pornography, healthy (mind and body) sex, drugs, pedophiles (thank goodness for FaceTime! I can meet all of my kid’s online friends face to face and verify that they are kids - as my kid does as soon as they get start developing a friendship with someone), and generally how to make good decisions. They will still hide things from you, absolutely, but hopefully they will listen to you about the big stuff!
      For example, how even though their favorite RUclipsr or every kid on the Middle School school bus swears, and I know they swear when alone with other kids online and in person - it’s definitely NOT ok to swear in front of Grandparents, teachers, or in any serious or formal or grownup situation... and that there is a big difference between casually swearing and swearing at things, but swearing -or using any hateful language- about AT or about someone is not ok, it’s bullying or the wrong way to settle disputes!
      I am furious about what RUclips is doing! I think it’s wrong in so many ways. But don’t tell me I have to start parenting - I’ve been doing it for 14 years and have a great kid!
      Seriously, spend 48 hours with a 9 year old and tell me how well you managed to spot everything they were seeing online, or how well you were able to block “inappropriate” content from every device and computer around them! Sorry for the rant!
