This is very disappointing to hear from a licensed doctor/professional. It is so hard for black women to be taken seriously no matter what is going on with their health. She really is apart of the problem…. I hope one day when she needs help she doesn’t come across a doctor that says she’s dramatic.

You really have to be your own advocate. I work in pharmaceutical and get first hand accounts about how patients were not taken seriously or dangerously misdiagnosed. This is especially sad coming from a practicing doctor. Her license needs to be revoked. People who genuinely want to help people should be doctors, not her.

Obviously,, there is a reason black women are complaining more during pregnancy if their mortality rates are higher. If the medical professionals took their complaints more seriously than maybe they wouldn’t be dying at higher rates.

Also a physician here: I think it’s important to also discuss the ways black patients will be judged negatively for things they cannot help.
Black patients are more likely to ‘no show’ their medical appointments. they’re more likely to not get tests the Dr ordered done on time (transportation, child care issues etc). They’re more likely to not take medications that are prescribed due to affordability issues.
I say all of this to say, there are systemic issues at play that unfortunately make Drs of all races label Black patients as ‘difficult’ or ‘Non-compliant’. If you don’t take the time to ask what barriers your patients have to decent medical care, its easy to assume they’re not taking their health seriously or that they’re just making stuff up.

As a BW, I’ve had quite a few unpleasant experiences with Black doctors. This is just reminding me that its important to pick the BEST doctor for you. One that not only knows what they’re doing, but one that makes you feel CARED for. If you have to go elsewhere (doctor of a different background), then do it. Your health is more important.
Dr. Jackie gives me anti-BW energy. She seems to not be comfortable in her own body, so she projects it onto other women. That’s all these shows are with bw. I don’t see how y’all can watch them. The Black female doctor who I believe was 2nd generation West African dismissed me and gave me a gross liquid pain reliever to numb my throat instructed me to continue taking over the counter cold medicine. I went back nearly a weak later when my symptoms persisted and the White male doctor actually seemed to care, noted that my lymph nodes were swollen and prescribed me viral medication.

Thankfully, nothing was wrong but, they kept telling me to go home and that I wasn’t about to have my baby.

Years ago when I was pregnant I kept going to the Dr because of pain that I was experiencing and just feeling something off and it was my first pregnancy…..everyone kept blowing me off and saying that everything was fine, just for me to end up miscarrying at 5 months pregnant.

So sorry to hear that. Pregnancy is a scarry thing. When I found out black folks were treated worst statistically, in the medical field AND when that "ick" video on tictok came out some months ago, it kind of made me fearful to be under someone's care while pregnant; I already hate going to the doctor, knowing that I should go more often 😢. I hope with time you continue heal from your tramatic experience sis.

WOW! I had my 3 children in 3 different settings: 1st one in the hospital, 2nd with a midwife and doula at a birthing center, and the 3rd at home with a midwife and doula. My midwife was EVERYTHINGGGGGGGGG!!! She addressed ALL of my concerns and perhaps if physicians weren't short with their patients then the patient would feel more at ease about how their bodies are reacting to the pregnancy.
In regards to my personal experience being in the "care" of a physician and giving birth at a hospital it was straight trash! The ✋🏻👈🏾 male physician treated me as if I was crying wolf and when I gave him my Birth Plan he literally rolled his eyes and said "Oh you're one of those". I did not want to get an epidural and opted for a natural birth, he complained about that, he was doing the MOST in the delivery room and so was the nurse(I'll go into detail if asked), once I had my son the nurse immediately gave me a pill and told me to take it. I did, without questioning it. She then says we have some paperwork for you to sign but we'll have to wait until that pill wears off. I asked what did she just give me, this b-word said "Vicodin, I figured you would be in a lot of pain after all of this and didn't want you to be constantly asking for help with pain". I was pissed! I wanted to enjoy my son and I couldn't because I passed out from taking that mess!
What Dr. Jackie said is EXTREMELY dangerous! Praise unto the Ancestors for my midwives and my doulas!

    • @jlewhue
      @jlewhue 9 месяцев назад

@@daphneyharris9908 (I apologize for the length)
in the hospital you're rushed... They're trying to get you in and out of the delivery room ASAP so that the next person can occupy the bed. For example, I was administered "Pitocin" to try to speed up the birthing process being that I developed Pregnancy induced hypertension and threatened that if I didn't fully dilate by a certain time then I would have to get a C-section. I was under a LOT of stress at that point and I felt like I was the problem. Luckily, 2 to 3 hours after that "warning" I dilated to 9 centimeters.
At this point I am feeling the contractions, which I had not been before. Shortly thereafter I'm in full labor, at that point there's an ENTIRE team of people who come into the room so it gets hectic and very stressful. My nurse is literally standing next to me and tapping on the bed as if she's bored and could be someplace better. I unintentionally snap at her and was like "CAN YOU STOP?!?!" She obliged, and I went back to focusing and trying to push.
Now ideally you don't want to give birth on your back because it makes no anatomical sense to do so, therefore you're in this unnatural position and you have to wait until you get the urge to push. Don't get me wrong, you can push when told to, but if you don't feel the urge to push then you could possibly hemorrhage. With that being said, I felt the urge, I pushed, the baby crowned. I felt another urge and it was another good push, the doctor then says "okay go ahead and push again", I told him that my body isn't telling me to push...
This man roughly starts to rub my stomach to the to get my uterus to contract and I asked him "WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING THAT?" He says, "So that we can hurry this along, I have other babies to deliver". Within the next two to three pushed my son was born.
When pregnant with my second baby I found a midwife that I clicked with but I was fearful due to my experience at the hospital and I was fearful that I would develop PIH again. My midwife said, "when they first noticed that your blood pressure was elevated and an issue all the doctor needed to do was tell you to cut meat completely out of your diet: fish, vegetables, and fruit". My mouth literally dropped. She went on to tell me what Pitocin is and the issues that it causes with the birthing process. Again, my mouth dropped. My husband wasn't completely sold on the midwife all the way so he says "I just want a guarantee that nothing is going to go wrong with my wife or baby". She asks "Well who in the world would be able to guarantee that?" 🤣 She says that she's not in the business of convincing anyone because when you choose a midwife you're choosing to have the birth that you want so your body, head, heart, and soul has to be all in for both Mom and Dad. She suggested that we go home, talk it over, and watch a documentary called "The Business of Being Born" (I think it's on Amazon Prime)... very Very VERY eye-opening!!!!!!!! At that point I realized that I wasn't the only woman being rushed in the hospital and that this is a common thing and it's ALL about money!
Here are my labor and birth times:
1st baby - active labor started around 2p, water broke at 4:30pm, had him at 11p (Pitocin used)
2nd baby - contractions started at midnight, my water broke at 3a, (when labor starts digestion stops so I eliminated undigested and digested food), quickly showered after (crazy I know), my husband drove us to the birthing center as we arrived by 4:56a, the baby was born in a birthing pool at 6:24a, and were back home by 1:30p.
3rd baby - contractions started around 8a but they weren't too intense, finally called my midwife around 10:45a, she and my doula arrived to our house at 10:57a, water broke at 11:01a, baby was born at 11:10a. The contractions weren't that intense until the very very end.

My beloved mother passed away 3 yrs ago.
When I went to see my Nigerian, female black physician, she denied my medical leave request. She told me how her mother passed away and she had not seen her in 12yrs although she lived two states over. I believe she mentioned not attending the funeral. People die. Yes…She said people die.
As I was leaving the office, the female white LPN told me how sorry she was about my mom and use the time off to take care of myself.
When I told her the doctor did not sign off on the request, she gently took the papers out of my hands and told me to come back at 3pm.
I picked up my signed request at 3. I was able to receive counseling, close my mother’s home and cry.
Literally, today I found myself sobbing in the parking lot of Walmart…just telling her aloud how I love and miss her.

As an ER nurse who works with pregnant women a lot, the level of uncertainty in pregnancy is what makes women seek help and really reassurance for even the most “minor” things. But this should not be considered them crying wolf. Everyone’s level of knowledge of healthcare and pregnancy is different and her statement is very dismissive. And as someone who has received prenatal care from both an African American and a Caucasian woman I can say seek obstetric and gynecological care from someone not based on whether they’re black or not but who share the same values as it relates to ObGyn care. I say she is similar to Dr Jackie except she is a Delta and not an Aka lol. Like words matter. I don’t know if it’s easy to hold all the scientific book smart knowledge and emotions at the same time. That’s why I really love Dr Simone. Clearly she is a great doctor and has been practicing for over 20 years. However, she is so involved and emotionally connected to her family, patients and friends. Seasons ago she was begging her husband for more emotions. So she expects the same energy from her loved ones too. I think that’s a special gift that not every doctor holds. It’s something you can work on and I’m sure Dr Simone had to build hers at some point idk maybe it’s natural for her. It’s harder to do in the later years cause you just use to the way you operate, however a nice effort for change in your approach to work and life will benefit a lot of people.

I’ll say this, I always looked at Jackie side eyed. From the time she tried to put her way of living and eating on the other ladies. Just because she’s a cancer survivor. So she felt she had the right to tell the ladies what to do with their bodies. I used to be an EMT and when someone says they are in pain rather you believe them are not, you STILL should treat as such. Just because that one time can be fatal. Dr Jackie would be one of the drs I would not have gotten along with had she worked in ER. She has poor bedside manners.
Also women on Medicaid or the ones most likely not to survive. Truth be told people with Medicaid are treated worse than people with insurance. Fact! So her not excepting Medicaid is not helping much for those women who are dying the most.

When I was giving birth there was a black woman doctor who was doing her job so aggressively and hurting me. I could literally feel her anger the other woman with her made her leave and brought in someone else. Let’s just say I’ll never have another child.

Dr. Jacket is the Clarence Thomas of the Black medical field. All people want to get days off work. But to act as though Black women do this.

Go after them with a HIPPA lawsuit if your private medical conditions are made public without your permission.

I remember her being so hurt and angry when she found out she could not have children because of breast cancer. That alone would not have made her a choice for me. Not having kids is one thing but being secretly jealous and bitter because everyone coming to see you has the one thing you don’t is totally different.
