This version is essentially the swedish soldiers version of the 30 years war. A lifetime of war. The engliah version of the music is the world's view of it. Completely different lyrics. And both incredible.

Thats the war were Finnish cavalry got its name Hakkapeliitta (Hackapells) ... comes from the battle cry Hakkaa Päälle .
Finns were 2/5 of the Swedish infantry (13 000-14 000 ) and 3/7 of the Swedish cavalry (3000-5000 ) .. so about 5 % of Finnish population were in Swedish military .

I look around and I see my home fade away
My time at home now feels far too short
Just a youth, barely a man when duty called me
If i get to see my home again, that I do not know
Amongst friends from my village, I went out to figtht
    And the world burned

    For war it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
    But who will mourn me?
    So see me as
    A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
    But who will miss me?

Went to fight for Sweden, was baptized in blood
Out there where death awaits, not heroism
In fields where kinsmen fall no song is heard
Challenging our destiny one more time

    Far from home
    Baptized and die in battle

    And the world burned

    For war it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
    But who will mourn me?
    So see me as
    A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
    But who will miss me?

And when my time runs out
    Who cares then?
    They fight on
Does a soldier get a worhty end?
    To fall asleep
    Pass away
    And never wake up

    For war it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
    But who will mourn me?
    So see me as
    A husband, a friend

This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life.
The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it.
This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it.

Slow, methodical, and deliberate. The interaction from the crow was fantastic. The pounding drums, almost tribal at that beat astounded me. No half measures where quality is concerned, just spot on. All the songs I've heard so far Have a message of gratitude. Regardless of who we are, or where we are from, we have unsung heroes somewhere in our histories. And Sabaton is doing a very good job of restoring, and presenting them in a brilliant way.
Another great won is "Attack Of The Dead Men". That retells a history that I had no idea ever happened.

Added! You might have already noticed this, but there is only 1 upload for today. I had recorded in a way that would yield an average of 1.5 reactions per day through Saturday... But one of them was blocked (the NF reaction). I don't have the time right now to add a filter and upload it again... So, just one reaction today. Until this current term is over (mid-May), I probably won't have a regular 2 uploads per day like I have. I'm just too overloaded. Once this semester is over I will have more time to do more... but until then... It will be one, then two, then one, then two (more than likely, anyway).

It could much well be about any war really .... But I belive in this case its about the " 30 Years War" 1618-1648. It was at that time Sweden was a military Super Power... But Since Sweden have a small population . The King forced all families to send "father and sons" into war at a very early age. A newer video about that period of time ...is Sabatons new hitsingle "Livgardet"
(The Royal Lifeguards) ...Livgardet are are actually celebrating their 500 year birthyear this year!!! Still active and nowadays a part of Swedens Defence Forces. Go check out their music video! Its brand new!!! I think 2 weeks old only ...Its called "Livgardet"

    • @NorseOkies
      @NorseOkies 3 года назад

@@MaskinJunior Of course they are more devastating, because the Swedish version is from the soldier's viewpoint, while the English is from an observer's viewpoint. It's hard to trranslate a song directly as lyrics and melodies won't match, so it was deliberatly made to be like this. Just check out their newest song, Swedish Livgarget, and the English The Royal Guard.

    • @MaskinJunior
      @MaskinJunior 3 года назад

@@NorseOkies No, I meant the subtitles doesn't fully convey the devastation because of which words sabaton used in the original lyrics. I know the English version is pretty bleak. But also lots is lost in translation when they made the subtitles.

    • @Zabiru-
      @Zabiru- 3 года назад

@@MaskinJunior The translation is awful in places to be perfectly honest. (Because of the war, destroy a man ?? Not much better but "Because war can - destroy a man" is at least a bit better though not entirely correct either)
I've done a proper translation a few times in the comments on other reaction videos but I lack the energy to do so atm.

I never liked the english translation in that video, so I did my own. Goes pretty well with the melody as well =)
I turn around to see my homestead fade away
I wish I could have stayed there, just another day
Not yet a man, though called to arms to do my part
Will I see my home again, I wish with all my heart
With kinsmen from my village I went out to war
    In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
    But who mourns over me?
Went out to war for Sweden, baptized in blood
No gallantry awaits us, dying in the mud
In fields where friends has fallen, there’ll be no songs
Our fate once more we challenge, and marches on
    Far away from home
(To be baptized and die in war)
    In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who’s never seen again
    But who mourns over me?
And when my time is finally here
    Who’ll sing my song?
    They’re fighting on
I hope to die without much fear
I fall asleep, and fade away
    And never wake up
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?

Hopefully not that many believe in this, some of them are more correctly than the captions, but most of them mean completely different than what they are singing.
Just two examples that really bothered me:
'Om jag får se mitt hem igen det vet jag ej' literally means that he doesnt know if he will see his home again. Another one is 'världen den brann' = world was on fire.
If you wanna make a more accurate translation, atleast translate what they are singing, don't make your own lyrics and say that they are real.

@@heisenberg6680 Have you heard Sabatons own translation of lets say Carolus Rex. Not a singel word is directly translated pretty much.
Fort off, the on that exists for this song is so full of bad grammar and Google translation, it's not even correct english, not to speak about singability. I haven't said this one is 100% directly translated. I've said this is my translation and I think noone can argue that it captures the essence and meaning of the lyrics. Like your example: "In a world of flames vs And the world was on fire". You must be pretty much out right stupid if you don't think they can symbolize the same thing.
If you want to translate Swedish lyrics into English, but still keep the rimes and melody... Good luck translating it word by word. That's when you get a shitty Google translate one like the one in the video...
If you wan't to know what each Swedish word in the lyrics mean in english, use the one in the video and hop for the best. If you want to sing a long and still capture the essence of the song, use this one. Your choice.

    • @heisenberg6680
      @heisenberg6680 3 года назад

@@jizeta It captures the feeling and overall story of the song, but maybe next time make a disclaimer about the translation not being totally right. Translating lyrics to a song, so that it stays in the rhytm is the first and biggest mistake people make, when translating lyrics, since it can change the meaning drastically. Exspecially when literal translation would fit perfectly, I don't understand why that needs to be changed.
