    SEGA-AM2(AM2研)初のポリゴンレースゲームとなり、セガ初の3DCGボード「MODEL1」を採用したのが、この「V.R.(バーチャレーシング)」。ポリゴンレースゲームというジャンルではナムコの「ウィニングラン('89)」が先発となったものの、重さの伝わるステアリング、コーナーで横Gのかかるシート(特殊エアドライブシステム)、レース中での4種類の視点変更(VRボタン)、タイヤのグリップ変化・コースに刻まれるタイヤ痕など、後のゲーム業界に大きな一石を投じた作品となった。また、ゲーム中のピットシーンや表彰台に登場するポリゴンキャラクターが、後の「バーチャファイター」開発のきっかけとなり、「バーチャ~」シリーズの第1弾ソフトとしても知られる作品でもある。

    Sega once again prove themselves to be kings of the racing genre with the superb and innovative "Virtua Racing". This was the first racing game to be fully rendered with shaded, filled polygon graphics (the first game to ever be rendered in filled polygons was Atari's incredible 1983 release, "I, Robot").
    As well as the sublime graphics and superb playability, Virtua Racing also allowed players to switch camera views to suit their preferred style of play. The game features 3 well designed and varied courses; 'Big Forest', 'Bay Bridge' and 'Acropolis'.

    - TRIVIA -
    Virtua Racing was released in October 1992 in Japan.
    Sega went to General Electric Aerospace (who made the first 3-D simulators for NASA in the 1960s) in 1991-92 for assistance to develop a CG platform architecture for their new experimental 3-D system, which later became known as the Sega Model 1 hardware. Virtua Racer was the game being written to find out how viable hardware 3-D games were, it was never designed to be released, but it was such a success internally they decided to actually release it.
    The first AM-2 polygon race game. The game features many epoch-making ideas : changing the point of view freely, feeling the hardness of the steering, the seat interacting with the gravity.
    In true Sega fashion, their 'Virtua' prefix was used on a variety of other products such as "Virtua Fighter", "Virtua Cop", "Virtua Striker" and "Virtua Tennis".
    Toshiba EMI released a limited-edition soundtrack album for this game (Virtua Racing & Out Runners - TYCY-5365, 5366) on 15/12/1993.

    Love It! And while you may say "Wait a sec.. this is only 30FPS", yes, the 3D environment runs at 30FPS while the backgound scrolls at 60FPS, so it is actually a true 60FPS Video :D

    個人的には「レースゲーム」における「リアリティー」の最高到達点だと思います。
    これ以降、グラフィックが綺麗になり より「リアル」になってきましたが、
    「レースゲーム」と言うより「レーシングシュミレーション」色が強い印象を自分は受けます。
    (それはそれで、素晴らしい事ではあるんですけどね…)

    バーチャレーシング、デイトナUSAを越えるレースゲームは絶対にないと思います。

    これ友達4人で対戦するとめちゃくちゃ面白かった思い出。下手くそで周回遅れになったヤツがが速いヤツが来るたびに
    クラッシュを誘うように邪魔したり、序盤なのになぜかピット入ってタイヤ交換したりする???なのがいて普通にレース
    する以外でも本当楽しませてもらった。

      Or do the nearly impossible bump without spinning. But that’s hard to pull up. I’ve done it briefly in one of my videos. If I could tas this game that’s how I could pull it off

    Still trying to figure out what controls those three black & yellow gates before the final turn. You can shave off a bit of time cutting through the grass there, but only if those gates are actually out of the way.

    I personally thing 2d sprites on 3d models could of made the ending better. Just saying. (The model 1 can do that BTW, ever seen the star wars game on the model 1?)

    This is a challenge. I need to beat this run. I got 3:13:05 the last two turns are tough to keep over 300kph. I have to master that technique as our other turns are close the same. It’s weird that even in my run I get 1st right after the first checkpoint when getting on the bridge and your run still beats me. Lol. So yeah @replay burners. It’s on!!! Challenge time!!!

      Go for it :) I think there is still some improvement in my run possible. The key for those corners is strategic downshifting.

      The arcade game DID release in a 16:9 CRT version in addition to the more common (at least based on my experience) 4:3 versions.
