  • 5x10' Cargo Trailer Conversion Build:
    Wanted a built-in, discreet air conditioning option for when I'm connected to shore power or running off the generator.
    Vents used are 4" circular inspection hatches mounted to the exterior using butyl tape as a seal, and will be caulked in when 100%.
    AC is a 5,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner by Toshiba. More than enough for the 40sqft livable space on the interior.

    I'm currently building out a cargo trailer. I decided to put a luggage door for my exhaust opening. I tapped in a drain bung on the A/C pan for drainage. Right now I deciding on intake system for the unit. Great job on the install..

    People are so worried about mold..... Mold is everywhere.....This is run for short trips probably. With any mold it will be vented outside if inside is sealed off. Wow Good Idea! Try buying a mold test kit and put it inside your house. Mold is everywhere

    Great idea I actually did mine the same way. Except we accommodated for air flow per square inch and went with the bigger floor decking plates. Just got all of the heat tape and realized that I forgot to do a drain for the condensation off the back of the unit. Do you ever have much trouble with condensation off the back of your unit dripping on the inside of your cargo trailer?

  • @davidengland69

    Where is the drain hose? An air conditioner actually pulls humidity out of the air and will create quite a bit of water. Also if it is raining, making it very humid (both inside and outside) you will be sucking the rain to the inside thru the air intake.
    So how has this worked for you so far, and have you used this system in the rain yet? I'd truly like to know.
    I am currently building my cargo trailer conversion and plan on installing a window unit as well since they are so cheap compared to an "RV" style unit ($100-150 vs $1,200), and from what I've read they use slightly less energy. I'm thinking about going with the slide out drawer brackets with an outside lockable door for the unit.
    I can appreciate your idea though...and it could be made to work, but ACs do generate an incredible amount of heat as well, which would actually end up making your unit work much harder and could end up burning up the compressor prematurely... eventually... I'd think. IMHO

    Condensation drain? And my 2000watt inverter doesn’t have enough surge power to start the compressor. Wish I would’ve gotten a bigger inverter.

    a lot of people have good criticism, but some are paid to talk shit to manipulate people the buy he over priced units sold. they never heard of selling to accommodate all levels of income, or what people are willing to spend. this is why most people have to make their own, because these companies pay the same to make window ac as they do to make van ac, but sell for extremely higher cost. some can’t or won’t pay, leave them alone, they won’t buy or can’t buy from you anyway. you sell high end product, focus on high end clients, stop trying to force people that don’t have it or don’t want to spend that to buy from you. or do like fast food does, and sell amazing quality burgers for $1 and then sell the same quality for $5.

    How do you plan on dealing with the water from condensation?

    • @OddBallPerformance
      @OddBallPerformance 2 года назад +5

      the condensation runoff from most modern window air units is usually minimal. If it concerns you though, a simple drip pan can be made from sheet aluminum, to sit under it and you could even install a fitting with a small hose to drain it off down to the ground.

    • @StevenBagley
      @StevenBagley 2 года назад +10

      @@OddBallPerformance that’s very dependent on where you are using it. Here in AL, if you don’t have a properly sized drain hose, you would have water everywhere in about 20 minutes.

    • @OddBallPerformance
      @OddBallPerformance 2 года назад

      @@StevenBagley my solution for a drip pan and drain would still apply

    • @jeremypeterson7171
      @jeremypeterson7171 Год назад +2

      Unfortunately a simple drip pan will not solve the issue. As mentioned prior higher humidity means more condensation. And enclosed space will prevent the water from evaporating into open air, instead it will be drawn into the plywood enclosure and create mold. If that drip pan isn't drained off in some way to the outside of the trailer the water can slosh around and over the drip pan and again end up on the plywood and into the trailer and again you have mold and rot. I've seen it 100 time with these types of builds. Adding a drip line to the outside of the structure is a simple solution and that only works as long as the drip line is cleared and maintaine regularly.
