I disagree that the Grace Kelly aquamarine dress is the ultimate Oscar dress. Most people today wouldn't remember it. I do, because I am a lover of fashion. But most people wouldn't. I really disagree with the majority of Hal Rubenstein's opinions.

The 90's was an over the top decade and that year was a turn for minimalism and she embodied that perfectly on the biggest night of fashion. My favorite Oscar gowns of all time was the powder blue Prada worn by Lupita in 2015 I believe it was. That dress wouldn't have looked half as good in anybody else, the color againt her skin was perfect, & she's got a very lean, athletic body type & the neckline really showed that off. And the simple headband & coral lip were the perfect finishing touches. Other fav, Kate Blanchett's gunmetal one shoulder Armani Prive gown, can't remember the exact year, 08 maybe?
