I'm from the US and I was at a crossroad in my life at about 25 when I wasn't happy, but not really sure how to change things. I ended up moving to Hanoi to teach English for about 2.5 years. Vietnam really gave me a fresh perspective and my time there was a really positive influence on my future endeavors.

Vietnam air quality will kill you brother, I dont know how the local do it but it’s so bad there. Whenever I go to Vietnam, I would cough a lot. Majority of people there get bronchitis and other breathing problems, then your immune system starts to break down. You get sick more and cough a lot, your liver your lungs, Saigon, Hanoi is the most polluted. If you live in a countryside is better.

iv vietnamese raised in canada too. Came in 91'' , had an amazing canadian childhood, always felt i was more white than asian...like i was white inside but asian on the outside....a weird feeling. But at the same time i wasn't white. In highschool i was 1 of 2 asian male in the entire grade....imagine that. But luckily i had diverse friends so i never felt fully isolated. As i got older i studied more history and philosphy and honestly when i learned about our history i got enraged. It was like this wrong i could never put into word...why i experienced ended up with the life i did, what would my life had been like had vietnam never experienced the war. How would my grandparents have lived better lives had vietnam never been colonized. I walk around in canada and i always felt the upper class whites had this attitude towards everyone else non white, like they were superior, like we're in their country....when they genocided an entire race and caused endless suffering all over the world. anyways...imma visit vietnam maybe next year for the first time too. I need some deep soul searching

Yea, it really does change your life. Me as an Asian from the West traveling in Vietnam and Asia in general really makes you realize what‘s important and how hard the people in Southeast Asia have to work for their money. Oh and I had that flu/cough too in VN in march. Stay strong and good luck on your journey! 👊
As long as you are happy and satisfied and you aren’t bothering people then you are making good decisions for yourself. Being away from family and friends is hard but being sad and depressed close by is worse. Blessings to your journey.
It’s not rocket science. But plenty of young folks are scared. They’re deer in headlights. Stunned in the face of danger. The prospect of moving outside their hometown to live life is too scary. But it really is this easy. Go abroad if you find your current home too expensive or too boring. There is no one template to life. Many, many ways to live and carve out a place in the world. I also did a stint in Vancouver. Most depressing place I’ve ever been. People were cold too. Vietnam is a much more lively place. The cons shouldn’t be ignored. As long as you manipulate how much of the outside air you take in, and don’t drink from the tap… it’s a nice place.

Yea the biggest concerns I hear surrounds water, food and air quality. Maybe Nha Trang will be a good alternative, it’s a small city though may get boring quick
0:59 I didn't realize either that the local people's first impression of Viet Kieus is that they hate the locals....I think that's a wrong stereotype...But what I have gathered from my experiences in Vietnam is that there are some locals that really have a negative view of Viet Kieus.....they think that all Viet Kieus are arrogant people

Funny enough, I started getting recommendations of your videos ever since I landed in Saigon. I’ll be here for three months so who knows maybe I’ll bump into you in the streets haha, but all jokes aside I love your videos and I find it really inspirational how you can go against whats so important to us Vietnamese and that is family expectations. I’m only 19 but I do also wish to move back to Vietnam in the future when I can get my income figured out. Keep up the good work and I really hope the best in your journey.🙏🏻🇻🇳

Nah, if you start learning Vietnamese and thinking in Vietnamese, consuming Vietnamese culture like music, film, book, food then you will change.

If you want it badly enough, you will and can make it happen. Just remember: " If there's a will, there's a way."
The important thing is make sure you have at least 6 months of savings to cover the basis. So start saving. Lol. I'm doing the same thing.
@@Uncoeurdailleurs My entire family is in the US, so leaving them is the biggest challenge. Money is not an issue for me.

I live very close to a gym in Melbourne but the payment is ridiculous, pay by card and not by cash, 12 Australian Dollars a week. I still want to move to Vietnam regardless.
Gyms are pricier out here believe it or not.
I agree with Peter. I'm in the U.S. and my monthly gym membership is $25 a month. This is a premium plan, which allows me to use any of their branches in the entire country. But for $10 a month, I am limited to just a local gym. I don't live in Vietnam, but have seen videos from expats in Vietnam who said they paid $30 U.S. dollars a month there.

Bro, Vancouver is a grind. People in Vancouver work to live. Going out and eating out is fucking expensive. I just went to see a movie with my gf. Almost cost 50 bucks CDN to watch a movie. It's crazy!

I wonder if a lot of Viet kieu leave the states because we're just tired of the grind and not living up to expectations.
