Their root systems are shallow and very vigorous and will outcompete anything you try to plant underneath. When they get big they take up a ton of water. They also constantly drop pine cones, twigs, drip sap, and needles that make the surrounding ground acidic. They are a bit of a pain to deal with. I don’t recommend planting them unless you have a ton of room.

I have ten to plant this spring,I can't wait!
How are they doing?
Why not plant White Spruce, a similar, native tree?

Another of my favorite trees, a great host for some of my favorite edible fungi. Thanks for sharing!
Which mushrooms grow well on them? Looking for that information I have a row of them at my house
Is it prone to deceases? Is Serbian spruce more decease resistant?
Those cones can actually dye things red!
I have one of these that seems to dying, any tips to bring them back?
unfortunately when one is dying there's not much you can do. I'd wait and see if it recovers
My Norway spruces got poisoned by our septic tank but still recovered , they have a chance
all the evergreen are my favorite
How about blue spruce
How about pine
How about juniper
How about fir
I have heard some bad stories about Norway spruce growing in America.
Because it’s not native to the US it’s began causing problems for native trees.
you sure you're not thinking of Norway Maple?
White spruce are much nicer and tend to be fuller. They don’t grow as fast as Norway but look waaaaay better when mature
@@warrenranstrom4462I don't know the Norway spruces youve seen but every mature Norway spruce I see is huge, full and beautiful
It's terrible that we plant so many non-native trees here in North America.
Europe has a lot of American trees too, I dont think it matters since a lot of species are closely related
