Hi Jhesy @ Etchr. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker living abroad). First of all, thank you for this great video with Brenda Swenson, one if my favourite Artists, specially on Plain Air and Urban Sketching... She us just - AMAZING - (as a fellow Artist and from the bottom of my heart). She has taught me incredibly and artistically and creatively in my own artwork and how I think through all of my sketchbooks (from start to finish), helping me make my sketching as part of my own art form and style... You can't start to imagine how she opened my eyes and my soul to composition and light. So, again, thank you for this video... And... I want to share something with all other artists... in a similar way as Brenda Swenson explained her artistic path (I am 57 years old now), my own life as an Artist had similar backgrounds in a way... when I was a child and as a teen, I lived Art and I was always drawing and painting... but my parents always told me that was a futile career (too difficult to make a living with in those days). I have been working and studying (working also to pay for my studies - I have 2 University Degrees and an MBA), married my wife from Spain and built a family here, while working my professional career as an Executive in the Consulting World World Wide and now in early retirement... and never have I gone back into Art until a year ago, thanks to my wife and due to health issues... Art has not only saved my life, but it has made me feel young and creative again, taking all the stress out of life and helping me enjoy again a life full of colour... And Brenda Swenson has been a big part of that transition with her beautiful Art and also with her amazing personality (from what I can gather from her videos). Thank you again, Brenda! And I know she's been in Spain several times for workshops... I hope we can some day meet in one if them... I would be honoured to have her as a teacher! Well dine, Etchr team, for having such a special artist in your channel. Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎
What a wonderful interview with Brenda. Thank you Brenda for sharing your inspiring insights with us. I’ve learned a lot. For the challenge I’m going to immerse myself into landscapes.
Brenda, I have thoroughly enjoyed and related to this wonderful interview. Thanks for sharing all those "golden nuggets" that you've discovered and pass on so freely to us. God bless you. Jean
Another great video. Thank you. I really haven't à single object or scene that I like more than another, I just enjoy the drawing, the escape. I do seem to do more urban sketching so if I had to pick something now that would be it. I recently joined a daily sketch group, and photos posted sometimes force me to draw things that I would never have chosen, opening the limits I seem to have set for myself?
Brenda expressed things I needed to hear though I have painted for years. Paint what you love. I have been guilty of painting like someone else and not like me. It is hard not to imitate with all the media lessons available to us. I also sit to do watercolor and travel light. I felt such a kinship with her.
Thank you Brenda for being so open with your advice and experiences!
