    Solid advice. Just used a temp gun last night to help my buddy break in his Trinity Platinum Adam Drake .28 that was one of several engines and buggies/truggies that somebody was selling as a whole package. Thanks as always.

    Got my first nitro in years! Last time was back in 2003 in HS. It’s amazing how far nitro engines have come. But what I’m blown away by is the engine heaters and oil bath break in. Pretty next level! Still not sure if it’s necessary. But something I’m open to exploring.

    Good morning Mr Drake, another informative video that i will be added to my personal mugen play list. I look forward to any and all content you release about the MBX8R. I just wondered if you post up your recent setup sheets anywhere online for your MBX8R?

    Good information i think im stuck in the past ive been tunning to 220 range max on my Novas and piccos and seems to always be rich runs fine for me a B+C main driver lol but i dont get the fuel mileage i need. Maybe time to ditch the temp gun and start leaning on them needles.

    Until recently I use them to tell me how much clutch shoe slip I’m getting which could be measured in the clutch bell to prevent clutch bell failure and I think many of us have blown up a bell or two . My two cents

    I still use temp as a guide. If it runs good, idles fine I check temps and make sure its not into the 280s. Under that its a race engine on a racing tune. Sometimes they get hot a wear fast just like all racing engine.

  • @tomstansberry6897
    @tomstansberry6897 Год назад +1

    Thanks Adam. How does that affect fuel mileage. Also is there a good way to determine the balance of the needles? so you don't have a lean high speed and rich low and mid speed.

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Год назад +1

      I plan to do a more advanced tuning video in the future. Yes, the best way to determine the balance of the needles is to do slow pulls through the full range of the trigger and the sound and RPM should increase at the same rate that you're pulling the trigger to make it 1 to 1. Hope that helps.

    Hi Adam, if running on 285 for example does make the ceramic bearing unhappy? Might making that bearing sound sooner or it doesn’t matter?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Год назад

      I don't believe so, most bearing noise comes from when the bearing is sitting and corrosion occurs.

    I've noticed the more I run my nitros the less I been using a Temp gun after awhile you can tell how it's running just by sound.

    Nice video Adam, Thx so much! Are there any specific temperature guns you recommend for Nitro racing?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Год назад +1

      I have Exergen temp guns, but Protek and a few companies make less expensive ones as well.

    As always a great video thanks Adam
    I like to temp for break ins to keep heat above 200
    Once break in is complete the engine tells you everything it needs once you learn how to listen “don’t let the wife know I know how to listen”😅 I like to check the temp after I run just for reference im still getting used to how high these engines can rev it’s pretty incredible

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Год назад +1

      @@keithbates695 You actually want to make sure you don’t run it too cold during break-in. I recommend in the 200/220 range.

    I'm gonna say, that materials are not as good as3- 5 years ago. Most engines that are o.s. based that I've dealt with, lately I've had to have them repinched between 1-2 gallons, where as my spec 2 was able to go 6-10 gallons before needing a pinch.

    • @RotoRCol
      @RotoRCol Год назад

      what do you mean by repinch? replacing sleeve and piston? or what?

    • @jacobglander7889
      @jacobglander7889 Год назад

      @RotoRCol no, you have the sleeve repinched, look into sleeve pinching, adam drake does this service as well

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Год назад

      Have you experienced this with O.S. engines or just engines manufactured by O.S.?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  Год назад +1

      Resizing / pinching the piston and sleeve set to increase compression and seal when an engine get worn out.

    • @jacobglander7889
      @jacobglander7889 Год назад

      I guess just engines manufactured by o.s. don't really want to say any names, but it was past engines I've run.
