    Im amazed at the farmer mentality of spending thousand's of dollars on farm equipment then leave it out in the open for years on end! Just because it was designed to operate in extreme conditions doesn't mean that it should be stored in extreme conditions! Just an old heavy diesel mechanic saying! You can protect it now or pay guys like me after you've abused your equipment!

    So the question on my mind is how does it steer? I can see you turning the steering wheel and the tractor slews around but how? Must be more of a modification than just throwing on the tracks.

    • @TheClassicFarmer

    That is a great tractor and unusual to see on tracks. I was quite amazed to see how easy it started up. What grade of engine oil was that, it looked like some modern synthetic stuff? Good to see the ole girl being put inside out of the weather and hopefully sorted out and used one day. Did you try the forklift attachment?
    I noticed that you praked the tractor next to a modified Lightweight Series 3 Land Rover with a truck cab on it, did you put it on the Range Rover chassis or does it belong to someone else? A video on that would be interesting too.

    • @TheClassicFarmer

      It’s 5w30 oil that was put in to flush the bad stuff out it’s right to run for short periods on the lighter oil. It is indeed a lightweight on a 200tdi discovery chassis. I have a bit of work to do on it so I’ll have some videos later in the year.

  • @frontagulus
    @frontagulus Год назад

    What an interesting conversion. Could you tell us what the undercarriage came from, and whether you can still use 3 point linkage implements or do the rear idlers prevent some of them from being used? How did you decide what diameter to make the sprockets? I'd guess you'd figure the top speed as a wheel tractor, the ideal top speed of a tracked machine (say 7mph), and then just calculate the sprocket size to reduce it to that speed? Since it's a forklift, I imagine that the undercarrriage is non-oscillating?

    • @TheClassicFarmer
      @TheClassicFarmer  Год назад +3

      Hey there the 3 point linkage still works as intended we used it for harvesting potatoes and ploughing. The under carriage came from 2 case drott loading shovels that were welded need to end and the sprocket is the one from the loader with the centre cut out and the centre from a tractor rim welded in. Too speed is about 15mph but it’s bumpy at that speed it’s more for low speed jobs.
