- Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2 has released, and we dive in, in service of the Emperor, for our first game. The Tau Merchants battle the Chaos horde.
Set in the grim dark universe of Warhammer 40K, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 has multiple campaigns to play across multiple factions, and includes online skirmishing and ranked gameplay. A big thanks goes out to the developer for granting me a review key so that I can partake in the early access Betas as well as in the full release for preview and review purposes.

in case you were not aware PE, Tau merchant battleships fire their missiles (they r not torpedoes) sideways... from both sides
so in the first salvo you fired, half of the missiles you fired slam into your own ships as they were side by side.
And i don't know about keeping your range with Tau here...
i mean you are facing Chaos fleet with massive amount of lance... while you don't bring nearly equal amount of ion cannons to match them... in which case you are going to LOSE the long range engagement...
the chaos (pun intended) in the late game at short-mid range is where the rails are going to beat the lance in dpm.
Tau railguns are good ... but fighting Chaos lance heavy fleet with them... at long range is... still suicidal.
I actually told him a while ago on the discord, but im pretty sure he forgot already :D .
Also, that would have worked very well, had he killed all the escorts and then went into stealth.
Merchant fleet should just use carriers. No amount of lance will chew through battleships as fast as 16 bombers do.
Tau protector fleet outmatches chaos in a gunfight as chaos can only fire half of its weapons at one time
@@konstantinriumin2657 he also use figher all the time rather than the much heavier hitter bomber
We want to see more Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2. :)
You need to know when it's time to warp out your ships. Doesn't matter that they get points; giving them half the points of a retreating ship is better than full points of a destroyed ship.
You really need to start paying attention to what ships upgrades apply PE. Only ion cannons on your flagship were affected by the range upgrade. Other upgrade was fine as you had lot of escorts and it only worked for them.
This. If you don't want to spend time while recording looking at what everything does, that's understandable. But please, before you start recording, take a few minutes to sit down and read what the various upgrades and options do when playing with a new faction.
Was worth noting that the ion cannon range increase states it only applies to the Flagship, and the lock-on passive you chose only applies to escorts.
Read the escort one again. Escort's in lock on stance, when marking targets, extend that Exceptional accuracy rating to all railguns in the fleet near them.
Great game, I love the merchant fleet. Also, I really do like your sportmanship and polite behaviour with your opponents, good vibes in this channel!
Thanks! And glad to hear it - no time for negativity up in here!
very nice gameplay it been interesting seeing your progress from your first videos to your latest seeing your tactics and skill improve keep up the good work man
Lovin’ it. You got me into the game and I’m wanting to see more!
Props for throwing up a loss, always nice to keep us guessing. Good game!
Damn i love some good lance-heavy builds fighting at range
Nice. We need more Tau
Thank you, i've been looking for a reason to buy this game You've helped a lot!
Really enjoy your Gothic Armada content
A joke inspired by Party Elite:
Party- "I'm Tau so I won't worry about boarding maneuvers"
-Gets closer to enemy
Party- "Well might as well board"
-Boards enemy ship as Tau
-
Party- "Well that isn't ideal obviously"
I didn't even know this was a thing, cool. Thanks
I didn't understand much of this but it was still fun to watch :D
Only mentioning it because I’ve seen it a few times(and I know being vocal and playing are hard)
Don’t execute if you can rally off your flagship. Rally can bring Munity back without a critical hit and a loss of Troop level.
Additionally, lanes have 100% accuracy, so range isn’t necessarily the best place for you as Tau.
MORE !!!! Awsome content !!
Great play from your opponent!
Haha! Excellent defeat. Highly entertaining 😁
Hey man, The upgrade that gives escorts exceptional accuracy when in lock on stance is wasted when you sit in stealth for that long with them. When I play Tau, as soon as my main force is exposed I switch to lock on with them to get in higher damage, sure they'll get picked off, but with the number of escorts you had there, you should have gunned down a ship or two with ease.
that was an awesome battle!
Really appreciate your content even though I don't really plays game anymore
Really interesting game. Enjoy your content!
How cool is it to be recognized online?! :P
A bit of a oopsy whoopsy when you fucky wuckied the torpeedoes right to the sides of your own ships D:
You certainly tried! Good luck and keep up with the entertaining content! xD
Good shit, keep it up.
I'd love to see guides for each faction.
Such a great fight!
Are there Orca class escorts available in this fleet? The ones that could be attached to bigger ships like Tau drones onto their vehicles?
Thanks for posting. I would enjoy seeing more BFG.
You just keep making content on Battlefleet Gothic and on Warhammer Total War, both games are amazing and any youtuber with decent content on them is a treat.
Great video keep it up. New subscriber here
Do the Tau Merchants just have that bad damage output, or were you not focus firing? Or, maybe a little from column A and a little from column B? I noticed a lot of enemy ships were low/no shields and ~50-60% hull
I do think it's a bit of both to be honest! Going to try another one as Tau Merchants, soon.
There were to many escorts that weren't used efficiently.
This could have been improved a bit by changing the command from "go silent" to "reload". When entering combat. Also out maneuvering the bigger enemy could have been an option to not loose that many ships in the beginning.
Keep up these Nice video ! I'll buy this game when it is more stable, I really enjoyed the first games's campaign, but it was really lacking and too slow to progress in MP/Skirmish.
This is such a cool looking game, wow
Great match.
Has it really been 4 years since we first started seeing Battlefleet Gothic content?
Great game! I’m enjoying this content! Please make more.
Some questions... I always have a hard Time with micro intensive games. Is it possible to lower the sleep in multiplayer? (In SP I play on slow speed a lot) Also have you tried using the independent stances on the lower left to help with the micro load? Do they actually help? Also is there a fleet you would recommend for slow people like me? Eldar is kind of my favorite but I’m guessing they are really micro intensive.
No speed change in multiplayer. As for micro load. Everything has a lot of micro. There's no exception in my opinion.
Love your BFGA content PE!!!!
This is a beautiful game. I wonder why it never caught on. I am starting to play it just now and did not even know about it.
At around 10:30, why don’t you focus down one of those ships vs scatter fire at a few vessels? I’m new to the game.
As I just posted on the other video, love them but you need to read the upgrades better. Coated lenses apply to the flagship only, so checking which other ships have ions does not help really. :D
Good to see some tau play
You know, all I want every time I play space strategy titles now is Homeworld.
more tau please i love them and this channel
OK, that's usually how it goes with me using the Tau. At least I don't feel that useless. Still, I really need to find a way to make them work better. Every faction seems to have an easy way to counter "keep your distance". Worst time I had was against a Tyranid carrier. I didn't even know what hit me. Suddenly all my ships were without a crew and blowing up.
"it was a little chaotic" no shit its chaos!
Is there a reason you generally don't use interceptors or torpedoes for area denial on early strategic areas?
Just haven't built the right habits yet, to be honest. Getting better at it!
Why didnt you use your attack squadrons?
Good stuff
Looks like the torpedoes were firing out of the sides of the tau battleships; having them next to each other meant you shot yourself a few times with torps I think
Aye, would like to see some more Ork gameplay :)
Oh there's definitely some coming soon!
love the content, and I am not even playing the game haha
Is the priority order system still in play in BFGA2? You should be able to set the target priority so that your fleet always shoots at that ship if they can. That would have helped you a lot in this battle if you had been able to use it!
Never even looked at this game, watched the video because I was starving for TW content, and suddenly there was a new game in my library. Thank you for excellent showcase!
Haha glad to be of service! You'll be happy to know TW will be making a proper comeback to the channel shortly =P
@@PartyElite Fantastic! Mixing it up is always healthy at least for me. Its like having the same ice cream over and over. You need to mix it up or else you wont touch your favorite icecream for 5 years
I have definitely experienced this. Not with ice cream, though!
NEED MORE BGF2!
The Tau factions just don't seem to put out enough damage, and their ships aren't fast enough to make their range worth it. Every faction gameplay I've seen the opponent just doesn't take enough damage initially to preclude using a rush strategy effectively. Even when you've won with the protector fleet it becomes a grind with just the Kroot Sphere left.
To be fair, with their homing missiles Tau can inflict a pretty nasty salvo from long range if the enemy doesn't have defense against that ready (fighters and what not)...
probably still not exactly going to fully justify it... but they do hurt like hell if proper steps are not taken to stop them.
the problem though with Tau merchant ships is that their battleships in particular fire their missiles sideways.... and this makes them flat out inferior to the normal Tau combat ships in most cases since it makes it a lot harder to arrange for the fleet to fire their entire missile salvo at once without hitting your own ships on the way.
their theoretical dpm is slightly less than IN but also much cheaper
@@user-YuHaoHuang what does "IN" mean?
tau is meant for long range attacks, in the case of the merchant the best way is to spam fighter bombers and missiles (trust me i saw a different you tuber win with that faction against chaos too) and in all honestly this fight is while its a good watch its simultaneously cringe by seeing just what he did to the ships also if i remembered correctly chaos lance batteries have longer range so he should have went after the engines or weapons
@@williamtheriac9274 imperial navy
Beautiful battle!!
Glad to see some Tau gameplay.
Curious, why are there 2 different Tau factions, and some of the other species have multiple groups as well??
The Tau merchant fleet represents the original fleet, comprised of modified trading and transport ships. The other fleet Was build from scratch after the merchant fleet performed subpar against the imperial navy following the first great military conflict between Tau and the Imperium
Also, The Tau mechant fleet was created by GW, forge world made the protector fleet.
The Lore is quite welcome; If I recall, Forge World additions are not always canon??
Also I more so meant what are the differences mechanically in this game. (Kind of like what Lord Psycho asked)
i don't know if it's been mentioned but i found a way to fix the movement bug where your ship seams to be a way-point during combat, if you toggle off the "stay locked on target even while move order" button and give the ships an order it breaks the bug
It's not really a bug? It's a command :')
Roll out those guides. Maybe do one against cheese build? ;)
GG WP!
Scaring to play but Enjoying to watch your video :D
Are you having the same issues with resolutions upon start up?
Nope - what seems to be the problem?
@@PartyElite Eh for some reason I have it set to 1080p but upon launch or exiting campaign, it goes to a low resolution. Not game breaking but certainly tedious.
More More!
What's the difference between the Tau Protector Fleet and the Tau Merchant Fleet?
From lore perspective: Merchant Fleet is older ships (often transport/combat combination), which were basis of Tau navy before huge scale clashes with Imperium. After they saw what a huge threat is Imperium Tau launched huge development and construction program which ended in Protection Fleet. Older ships were relocated to rear eschelon duty and became Merchant Fleet.
@@MakAlexMosc What does that mean ingame then?
Has the mega-roks ork ship been used in a video before either?
I would love to see that. They need to look out for boarding but being immune to crits is great. And they can go really zapp heavy. If you have upgrade that makes your zapp slow enemy they are super good. And they fire 360°.
I could try one! My next Ork video won't include it (already recorded) but maybe the one after!
Heck yea
Make a ramming focused necron or tyranid fleet named Necrams and Tyramids respectively
Those puns are off the chart! Outrageous!
Isn't the double amount of escorts a bug? You have 12 when you bought 6. Bad form using them all.
Are you THE Party Elite? :P :P
Get 3 tau carrier, use the passive that make bomber inflict broading and boarding inflict crit and fire. 1 bomber wave will down cruiser
We've come to deal - a free greater good for all!
No one needs that.
Moooar BFG2!!!
Woot. Ty based PartyElite
Throughout that entire match you switched targets so, so many times. Look at the state of the enemy fleet by the end- pretty much no capital ships destroyed, with multiple of them having moderate damage. That's not good, you need to focus on targets and bring them down. By changing targets so many times throughout the game, your opponent had more guns online, more bodies to cap points with, and more ability to get a crossfire going than if you'd focused down 2-3 of his cruisers. Not to mention if you'd fully destroyed just one of them, you'd have had enough points to win.
I hope they do other campaign games
U should make builds and guides for all the races
I feel as though you could've used the fleet's fighters more effectively for things like identifying enemy ships and disabling their weapons.
Yeah - I definitely did not use the fleet super efficiently!
Tau boarding action.... on a chaos vessel
We're mere merchants, trying to make some sales!
Disruptor bomb - taken, never used
How is this game not represented in e-sport competition? It's far more exciting to watch then match of LOL or DOTA..
What are the differences between the Tau and the Tau merchants?
From what I get from comments here, Tau merchants make for great carrier fleets compared to Tau regular Sniper fleet with auxiliaries.
@@Mithguar Thanks
Very close
Would like to fight you at some point. You're the first player I see being decent at T'au. Add 'Karl V' on steam.
more more more BFGA 10/20/20
Chaos is too fucking tanky. You fucking pound the shit out of them and nothing but they shoot you one time and 15% of your armor is gone.
As others pointed out, you should really pay more attention to the tooltips for the upgrades. I noticed this in many of your Beta videos as well. You often pick things that only apply to one ship (or none at all!) but assume it applies to all.
This would've been easy had the disengage button been liberally applied xP
More please
I'm interested in this game but I'm holding off on buying it for now. I'm not a huge WH40k guy but my understanding is that Tau's doctrine is range superiority, mobility, and precision strikes. Higher damage, lower durability.
It's weird to see Chaos ships matching/outranging Tau ships, and seemingly putting out more damage. Is this an issue of fleet composition? Did PE put too much of his fleet comp into escort ships and not enough into heavy hitters? A little disappointing to see Chaos chunking Tau at range and just getting tickled in return. From casual observation, it seems like TAU damage is low, and their range advantage probably isn't strong enough to compensate if Chaos can still chunk you from halfway across the map.
Tau in Dawn of War were one of my favorite RTS playstyles ever... overlapping fields of fire with skirmishers at the front disrupting and locking down targets. Like some kind of weird sci-fi Pike and Shot. Super fun.
Can you play against the AI in this game?
*F I L T H Y X E N O S*
Seemed like you were too fixated on chasing that one damaged cruiser and lost a lot of ships going up against their deathball when you would have been better off focusing on holding as many points as possible with your escorts and denying the enemy points.
BGFA 2 and more Total War Warhammer, pls
What's the point of you assigning groups if you never use the hot keys to control them. I always see you dragging to select ships
Good video, I'd only add though that it's I-on not ion as a single word . . just sayin'
More demiurg!!!!
link_in_the_description_down_below.exe crashed (loop error)
I don't think i've seen anyone play merchant fleet
Now you can say you have!
Lots of kiting potential but such wimpy damage output u can't realy defend any of the points.
Great match though
Yeah Tau don’t do kiting well. They are just way too slow. Should have gone with more ordnance instead.
Chaos seem to be dominant in chaos v tau
