- In this build video, we install the Bronco/F150 Rough Country 2.5" Lift Kit. This took way longer than expected and the video definitely makes it look easier than it was.

im about to get a 6” lift and 15/12.5 wheels for 450. this guys doing a part out and wants everything gone. only if i get it myself its 450 so ive been watching every lift video i could find lol
Just installed 4 inch rough country lift. Had too much rake so I installed 2 inch supreme suspension coil extensions. Installing brush guard next. First time I lifted a truck myself it felt good after it was all done. Nice video
Sounds awesome! And yeah I totally agree. Man what a process but it does feel rewarding when you finish.
How do you like the lift so far, does it work good?
@@madmonkeymotorsports. if something is bad you will notice after lifting the truck. Had a lot of play in the steering afterwards so I replaced tie rod, pivot bushings, radius arm bushings, ball joints and now drives like a dream. Only thing is when I go into reverse and this is after getting it alignment my tires now tow in, badly. The guy who did the alignment says it's was the same way with his 95 bronco and that it was normal but I think it needs a new caster and camber
@@madmonkeymotorsports. because the original caster and camber has only one groove it can fit into so he probably just didn't want to deal with it. I'll update you when I change it out
The lift is going great for me so far! In a couple weeks I plan on getting back under there and seeing what kind of wear and tear I’m seeing. I’m not seeing any extra play that wasn’t there before.
Great video! Very helpful compared to the crap instructions provided. So far I've finished the rear tires and passenger side bracket. Moving on to the driver side pivot bracket and radius arms. WAY more work than I had anticipated (especially w/ 2 kids running around lol). Probably should have shelled out the extra $$$ to have this done. Grateful you took the time to record this, otherwise, I'd probably be up s**t creek!
Thank you! And oh man, it was way more time than I thought. Part of it was probably filming too but I agree. I doubt I’ll ever install one myself again unless I have a lift. Drilling through the frame was such a pain.
@@doublewvideos3474 a lift would be clutch. I've add to create wooden stands for my jack stands to sit on in order to lift the truck. I'd guess I've already put in 8 - 10 hours (stop and go / trial error). Of course, I'm no professional. Rough idea how long it took you to complete?

How does the steering and ride quality feel compared to stock? Any alignment issues with this kit?

What did you end up going with? I think it all depends on your preference and uses. I wanted the modified lifted look without having to break the bank on new tires to make it look decent.

I don’t blame you one bit! This was A LOT of work. Way more than I anticipated. A couple better tools would’ve made this a bit easier but I think it’s still a lot of time.

Just throwing it out there. I called a 4x4 shop asking about a leveling kit. The guy said they don’t recommend them for the bronco because it messes with the alignment. He could be wrong but that’s what I was told

Did you have to get it aligned after? I've got an 89 F-150 that has the plow package and what looks like lift blocks in the back already. I'm hoping to just level the front with a 2.5 kit. I am just afraid it'll wind up with the Carolina Squat.
Luckily, the alignment wasn’t off too much at all. It’s still suggested to get an alignment but it’s gonna be barely noticeable, it’ll just wear out the tires prematurely. The drop radius arms really helped the alignment.
Curious, as I just installed this kit on my 96. Do you experience and rocking on the highway while taking long left turns or when going over uneven surfaces?
I will say I do get some weird feelings when driving, mostly just more rough than I thought it would be. I mostly expected some of change in geometry as far as steering but it is much rougher than I thought, especially on uneven surfaces. I will check out long turns.
@@doublewvideos3474 a long arm radius arm would make a big difference in how it rides.
This is the lift I'm looking at for my 96 Bronco. What size tires did you end up going with? How did the gearing feel after the lift?
I still have the 32’s on there. I will eventually probably go to a max of 33’s because I honestly like the way it looks now and I am worried about the longevity of the gearing if I go much bigger.
@@doublewvideos3474 I run 33s on my 93 with no lift, the truck could use for a re gearing, that’s a lot in part of the 5.0 e4od and 3.55 combo, I still pull with it, it’s still no slouch by any means

Hey boss I’m possibly getting a 89 bronco xlt with the 5.0 it needs a little work body wise but I know it has 33” tires on it now and idk if it has a lift if not I want to do one so this video definitely helped! Any idea on the next upload?

Looking to do this with my 1995 Eddie Bauer Bronco. What size tire do you think you could fit after the lift? I’m hoping I can get by with 35x12.50
That’s awesome man! I think 33’s would be ideal but I don’t plan on going larger than 32’s because I worry about the wear and tear on the transmission. As far as fitting, I think 35’s would fit with some rubbing when fully turned.
@@doublewvideos3474 I run 33's stock height and it only slightly rubs at full turn.
Hey if you were to do this over again same exact lift kit size and all would you replace the leaf springs or is it not worth it? Nice video by the way I just got one but it’s stock height.. thanks!
Great question, I’m actually working on new bronco content right now and I am thinking about replacing leaf springs as well. Considering how rusted they are and the front is now fresh, I’d have much better peace of mind with a new set.

Thank you!! I have not yet. Some of the same models do not come with the quad shock so I believe that is why they don’t include all 4. I haven’t noticed anything obvious regarding on replacing the two so I will hold off on that for now!

Hey there looking to buy this exact kit for my 89 bronco, was just wondering how it rides down the road? Is it rough?
I haven’t had any complaints. It may be a little stuff for most but for the price I can’t complain!
Did you get any popping or creaking in the front end after you installed the lift? I have a noise like that every time my truck leans on a turn or a hill.
I do get some odd popping noises. I just make sure I check all the bolts I installed and ensure they are all tight and send it!
Why did you have to drill out the bolt holes on the new pivot brackets? I am surprised they did not come pre-drilled from Rough Country, or am I missing something. Good video, thanks.
Unfortunately, they did not come pre drilled. That was by far the worst part, drilling the brackets and frame.
What size drill bit did you use for drilling out the brackets?
I believe it was 9/16 but I’d definitely recommend a step drill bit.
I want to do the 2.5 lift does your bronco sit Level now ?
Yeah! I was worried it’s be off but it sits perfectly
Are rough country lifts of good quality? I’m wanting to lift my 96’ bronco and am looking for a good company to buy from
For a daily and some off roading, it was perfect for me. If you are going to do some overland stuff and serious off-roading, I’d definitely buy a higher rated kit.
What was the reason the shock didn’t fit on the front side of the spring ?
Good question. So the instructions said that for the quad shock suspension, which is what I had, the new kit only requires you to replace one shock. I spent close to an hour trying to fit the shock on the front because the instructions weren’t super clear. It turns out, the shocks are different lengths. So I pulled the rear off and confirmed that’s where it fit. I plan on replacing the two front shocks in the future.
@@doublewvideos3474 exactly what I just went through on my 95. I had the same kit installed. They only left the one shock and as I drive it I feel more movement. The alignment shop told me that I need the additional auxiliary shock for a better ride. I called Rough Country today and said they don’t make the auxiliary shock for Broncos. That the one shock is supposed to be enough but I don’t think that’s true.
So you left the old front shocks on correct?
Yeah I figured it couldn’t hurt anything!
Is this just a level, or is it a level and 2.5” lift?
It is technically a 2.5” lift but it does raise the rear slightly less but even with the front due to it coming higher from the factory.
Did you have any rubbing on the control arms with those tires
No rubbing thanks to the drop brackets. I believe I can still go up in tire size too.
All depend on that wheels that u used I have 15x12 33x12/50 r15 stock no lift and mine rub plus I have to trim some of my front bumper
How long did it take for the camber to adjust
I believe you have to have it aligned at a shop or yourself for it to be correct. I plan on doing that soon!
Only 2 shocks? Why would the kit not come with 4 seems qweird?
I agree, if there is one big complaint I would have, that would be it. But apparently this kit fits a pretty wide range and not all of them have the quad front shocks so instead of shipping extra shocks to people, I guess they just have the 2? I haven’t noticed any performance issues.
@@doublewvideos3474 hell I just found out the quad shocks was an option for towing or plow. Alot of people switch to single shock towers.
Also, quad shocks with the lift makes the ride very stiff. Stiff front end is not ideal for the off road purpose of lifting a 4x4.

I’m honestly not sure, I’ve always just called them shocks.

Lift looks good.. just hope you torqued your lugs with more than that little breaker bar/wrench.. and with the tires off the ground (or just touching with no real weight to keep from spinning). Hate to see a gorgeous build lose a wheel on the Highway (diesel mechanic that started as a tire tech here, it happens).
Thanks for the reminder! I actually keep a torque wrench in the Bronco and check them before each drive. I had it happen once, forgot to torque them down and heard the wheel start shaking. I didn’t know what was going on!
What size are you tires ?
They are 31x10.5x15’s. I thought I was going to go bigger on the tires. It would look a little better but I’m not too upset with how they look and they’ve got a lot of life left in them so I’m going to wait.
Ok awesome I have 85 bronco and I have the same size tires and I was wondering if it would look weird but yours looks great!! I am going to do this kit as well. Does it change the steering at all? Also do you need to extend the brake lines? Thanks

@@codyjones8284 I haven't noticed much change in steering. It took a little bit to get used to but nothing I was struggling with.
Installation was way more difficult than I anticipated mainly due to the lack of instructions which is why I made this video. I would also suggest getting ahold of at least a 3/8" impact but 1/2" perferrably. It would've made things go much quicker. The most annoying part was drilling the holes out in everything. Make sure to have plenty of bits and to do step ups or you will break bits. Also, before you tighten anything, check for clearance. I had a couple bolts I had to completely take off to fit the one that was supposed to be first.

@@OlMrEllis look at solo and desolate. Both offer much better suspension upgrades than this.
