Thank you. In my opinion, this series of self maintenance videos are probably the best and most informative for bassists on the Internet! Clear, concise, and easy for anyone to understand. Thanks again, and play well.
This was so helpful. Thank you. I just changed my strings for the first time. I didn’t snip my old strings, I used them to size up the length of each string before snipping.
after 25 years of on / off playing . there is so much I didn't know about the simple task of changing strings . After you've explained some of the finer details it totally makes sense .. Great series ...
Hi Jason and crew- I'm new to the bass (I'm mostly a trombonist)- I started noodling around with it last year and started taking lessons about 6 weeks ago- and I just wanted to say that this set of videos has been super helpful. Keep up your incredible work and artistry, and hopefully in ~10 years or so I might be able to justify dropping you guys a line! :)
Amazing video series, very helpfull. It would be a good idea to put this video before the others because (if I have understood well) this process happens chronologically firts.
Great great videos. I use Old English on my unfinished ebony fingerboard. I have always been told as long as you dont use an oil that has wax/silicones you are ok. Also, I have always put my old strings back on and played with them for a few days (after oiling the fretboard) and then put new strings on it.
This is a great series- I went through about 20 videos at least to find out basic bass maintenance. These were the most straightforward and logical. I used to be Truss Rod phobic, but no more.
Great video series, really helpful! Would it be possible to make a video specifically about caring for basses with maple necks/fretboards? There's a lot of conflicting information on the internet, and it's difficult to find a "best way" of caring for such instruments. Thanks again for the videos!
+Chris Bevan Hey Chris! Maple necks / finger boards do not require oiling or anything of the sort. Because they are spray finished simply wiping down your neck after each gig to remove sweat on the fingerboard would be best practice.
Hey I just changed my strings today and without really thinking about it I fanned the strings out on the head. In other words where I should’ve wound counterclockwise I wound clockwise and vice versa. Is this bad? I’m not sure if this can damage the nut or anything like that. I’m just trying to figure out if I should bother redoing it or what. Very helpful by the way I used a lot of these tips
Hi Thanks! I learned so much from this video and the whole setup series... Would you mind, though, clarifying a little thing : I'm surprised to see you mention intonating *after* having bent the strings on the saddles to define a clean contact and string length. Isn't intonating gonna change that length if it needs even a minor change?
Thank you very much for these series!!! Would it be possible for you guys to answer me a question ?! Most basses I've played with (or maybe all basses that didn't have any setup adjustment done are like that, I don't know) have the A string buzzing, ONLY the A string - all the rest are good. Why is that and how can it be fixed ? Is it a matter of bad overall adjusting?
+Μάνος Καραμάνος This could be an issue related to the frets on your bass. We would recommend taking your bass to a trusted guitar tech who would be able to properly level your frets. Hope this helps!
OK... Question, let's say you have old strings on your bass and you got new ones. If you are going to re-intonate and everything after putting new ones on, would it be better to put the new strings on then set up the bass? Or set up the bass with the old strings, then put the new ones on, and go through the intonate again?
+Fodera Guitars..Hey Jason...I'm in Europe & I never heard or saw someone using Mineral Oil...Lemon Oil or others seem to be used quite often over here....why using only this one? :-)
If you are changing strings, do it one string at a time to keep the pressure on the neck. Resetting the truss is a pain. With all the strings off, you will need to go through resetting the intonation.
Other string replacement videos on RUclips say never take all your strings off at once as the lack of tension can bend the neck. Replace them one at a time they say.
That's an old wives' tale. You can trust Fodera. They hand-make and sell some of the highest end basses on the market. If the wood in a neck is twisted, it was going to twist with or without string tension. Having the strings off for an hour is not going to cause any problems that aren't already present. Not to mention, whether they are custom made or manufactured by a company as large as Fender, necks/basses spend time at the factory without strings and it doesn't cause issues.

Thank you so much.

What desktop tuner are you using? My Peterson StroboStomp is on my pedalboard, and having a standalone desktop tuner would be really helpful.
Thanks Alot
very informative videos and easy to digest
u r great

What about maple un-finished fingerboards?
Check out Fretboard F-One Oil by Music Nomad. That's what I use for my unfinished maple fretboard.

Andrew Bruck put fresh strings on then set it up
Isn't it best to wipe in between frets instead of over the top of them with the oil?
you guys have recommendations for mineral oil? i dont wanna mess this up.
I use Music Nomad bore oil, really cheap on Amazon and works well
loaves of bread thank you!
why is changing strings at the end of the video series?
"..expeditiously...."
...T.I. has entered the chat.
what gague of strings do you use with action set that low?
Fodera buyer: "Dear Google, I just spent $12,000 on my guitar. How do I put oil on it?"
This dude: here's how to properly set up your bass
Me: haha bass goes DUNNNNN
You can clearly see the back bow on the neck when it's with no strings
It's from Fodera, expect nothing but some of the finest info lol.
What about lemon oil for the fretboard. I have a fretless with rosewood.
+1rushboy We recommend and only use Mineral Oil.

@@JuergenJoherl check at a local pharmacy for mineral oil
@@Trig242 Okay, let me do that..thanks!🙏
On a routine bass-is
For my bass I bass-ically know
