And the video starts out with a brand new leather couch.. with Ryan acting like it's just always been there.. lol
Makes a change from the elephant in the room ! Lol
Yea you ever hear of wake and bake lol!!
Yup, I was like your just going to skip past bringing the couch in on the wheeler! 😂
No doubt! What up with the couch Ryan! Lol
I was thinking the same, I thought we would get some kinda explanation like my buddy dropped it of with his helicopter or something like that! 😂
Good morning, I love how you completely ignored the fact that you have a couch, it looks great,I love all your personal touches to the cabin
Dude, look at that sweet cabin. Looks downright civilised inside!!
Ryan, have you ever considered telling us the date the video is shot? Would be interesting to know and helpful when you look back at videos.
I spy a new piece of furniture. Loving the loveseat. You’re really getting comfy in that new cabin.
Just sayin'....your old rig seems much more user friendly with easier set up and break down. As long as you haven't found those steal tubes bending in the center due to weight over time, that seems the way to go! So entertaining for me! Thanks!
Grand berg definitely needs to sponsor you, great explanation of how everything works and things to watch out for, great job Ryan! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
Haha, Grand berg is funny.. I would guess its swedish/norwegian, gran = spruce, berg = well.. Berg/mountain/hill.
Build a gigantic screened in porch onto the front of your cabin.
That would completely change your life in every season.
Yes...then add vinyl sheeting (of course you could use acrylic sheeting to retain high visibilty) as large doors with hinges to keep out pollen and rain, but also put screens on the bottom before installing floor boards to keep out bugs!!! 🙂
@@nonedispose7420 Smart Ass
Needs to be big enough for 2 rocking chairs, of course you have to make the chairs
Another well done video!
I like the old one better
Where did all the snow go lol. And the cabin looks great I see you added a bunch more stuff nice work man.
Build a screened in porch the same size as your cabin. Build it onto the front of your canin.
Morning Ringers ❤
Happy Saturday 🎉
You're great! Love your videos. I work from home for an airline. It can have its hecktic moments. I watch your videos during downtime. So funny and calming at the same time. Love the microscope, too.
🎉 its that time again !
I copied Ryan's system and it works fantastic for me. Simple and versatile.
I think you should only use the new rail system for longer than usual logs. Your old system seems easier.
Your system is way better. The Granberg mill is great though.
Agreed. It's way to complicated. Needs a different set up / adjustment for every log. Plus it won't be long before a couple of those screws go missing!
Wouldn't it be cool to have a Granberg Rep come out for a weekend with a buttload of products to demonstrate & film.
Glad your ribs are better but you still need to pace yourself and be careful.
What am I Canadian lol almost spit my tea out on that one...
Saturday morning at the Ringworm Saw Mill. Fine weather for ducks lately in the Thumb. I have my milling horse loaded & ready for the rain to stop.
I came up with an idea to mill 4" boards on my 10" table saw without flipping boards.
I have a few tons of rcently downed maple & pines to mill too.
Make a round picnic table next!
Another entertaining episode! The Grandberg folks should be very happy. Even though it wasn’t a detailed review, you certainly pointed out the features and capabilities! Keep it up!
I've been enjoying your videos for a while now, and I appreciate all that you share and show us. I'm thankful to see you moving better, especially with the spring and summer just around the corner. 😊 I love how you speak to the camera like I'm right there. I've offered to help, but I don't think you're getting that back through the camera 😂 Thanks for all you share.
I enjoyed the video and the way you went through it and I’m a like you the way going through things.
Build a smoke box. A long box that you can fit a dozen 2×12 inside and a flexible dryer hose connected to a smoker. If you leave stuff inside for a day, it kills the bugs and the low slow heat might even draw out some moisture from green wood. If you use a good smelling smoke wood it will also give that scent to the smoked wood.
I saw this in a recreation village from the 18th century, used to kill bark beetles, dry wood, and to give a nice scent to common woods.
I got the EZ Rails from Granberg when I first got my mill. Within the first log I discovered that they are a bit of a pain. Getting all those leveling bolts just right and level takes more time than I expected (whereas a ladder is prtty much drop and go). I also found the the little pieces of aluminum that join the sections together bend really easily. So i've had a bunch of times where there is a kink or swoop in my lumber where the rail sections join together. It is a lightweight system so there is that benefit.
Good video!
I didn't even notice the couch. 🤣😱🤔 I like the new rail system but there are too many parts to keep up with. Your original homemade system is much simpler to use....to me anyway. Can't wait to see more videos on the new one. Maybe I'll change my mind. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That wood is beautiful!
I have been watching your videos since the beginning! They are fantastic, everything I didn’t learn was from you. I couldn’t live off grid and do what I do without your videos. However I have been using a rail system like that and what I would give for one like what you made.
I'm just beginning to mill logs because we had a storm in Aug this year that brought down HUNDREDS of logs through our tiny creek( was about 3 ft wide made it over 100 ft wide) and your videos are just what I needed to see and hear thanks a million. I'll do much better now
I happened to be browsing chainsaw parts the other day and noticed they now have a debarker that attaches to your chainsaw where the bar normally goes. It looks like a planer type blade assembly that's driven by your chainsaw. It sure would save time on stripping off bark with a draw knife 😁
Worm forget the new one and stick with your home made contraption.😉
Dude great job.Ton of Info.I built a cabin on 40 acks, very wooded. But now I want to mill my own.THANK YOU U da MAN
You buried the lead! New shelves, new couch!!! Come on man!
I'm surprised how the new mill works so smoothly.
I was thinking instead of wedges just cut some spacer boards the proper thickness. You have plenty of scraps! Lol
Good video Ryan
HAHAH You beat Me to the Comment I was gonna Make ..
Good morning again thank you for the video Saturday morning
Well Rayn its looks like a very cute cabin new shelves on the bed wall love the sofa well done you fantastic job be happy be safe ps now you just leather office chair and need to make a little bed for ruby lol
you can measure from the middle on each end then correct the middle by aligning end to end using string to get straight.
Salted, deep fried nine-volt battery 😢I spit some coffee out on that one!
You have been really sawing there Ryan!!! They say we are to get more Heavy Rain now YUCKY !!! But still it is better than SNOW !!! SLAP MY FACE with that 4 letter word haha !!!
Is this a sponsored video? Been watching you a while now, and you take much pride in stuff you make and figure out on your own. I'm be the unpopular opnion on this compared to most other commentors. That mill looks cheap, and like a bigger hassle to set up and use than the one you made. I'm curious to see how long it last to some honest use. I have my doubts tbh.
Ryan, don't know if you take the time to read all these, but, you DO know that the bars are interchangeable, yes? Put a short bar on the big head unit and use the small mill until you need the big mill. Then swap out the short bar and short mill for the long stuff. Retire the small head to backup and limbing. It would increase your productivity, and I know that doesn't matter, AND it increases the fun factor. That's what matters.
Thanks 😊
I love the subtly of your opener 😹
To solve the problem of felling wedges falling out when shimming my mill, I cut an old sheet of 1/4" plywood into 2" x 24" strips and painted the ends orange. Now I just shove them all the way through every so often. If my helper gets too ambitious and puts it too close to the chain, no big deal since it's wood.
Based on what another comment said, get different leveling bolts instead of those. Your impact will eventually mess up the flat heads on them, so it would be a good idea to get something with T25 (star) on the top so you don't wear them out after daily use. Great videos!
I'm pretty sure you can send that pine(?) tree sample and your photos to MSU and they can identify the mold, spores or fungus for you. They have a pretty good agriculture outreach.
Give a go.
Hey mate love your channel like your old rail system, are still enjoying bundaberg ginger beer cheers
Gets a new granberg mill and now gets haha “board ”twice as fast.
I think that is called red rot. If there are tiny mushrooms on the first couple feet of the tree that’s usually an indication. My experience is it keeps spreading even after the boards are cut. Mine wouldn’t burn and basically became landfill. But targets is a great idea!
You could create a hybrid system where you have end plates like your old ones to set the height of cut at each end and use the adjustment screws to stop the aluminum rails bowing.
Your milling set up is much better than the new faffy thing 👌🏻
Dig a well!
To many big rocks in the ground . He has said that in a lot of his older videos
I think I like your system better, it seems much easier to setup, and the first cut is always the same,,, make a set of plates to fit the new rails
Thank you and God Bless you Men.
You will return to using your two 2 inch box section rails very quickly.
Came to say the same thing 😂
Ditto
I think your rail system beats the new one
Great info. A mill like that is on my list!
Thank you
When leveling on ANY two rails, sides of anything you must position the level square to the frame you at leveling or you can not be accurate. your new rails don’t rust, just the bolts and nuts if they are not stainless
that looks exactly like the Princess Auto setup I just bought. I liked your homebrew rails
I'm actually looking to get a system like yours with the two big rails and a couple of plates. I think it's simpler to set up.
Ryan I know you are a fan of the new application but the old ones seems more user friendly and easier to set up....but probably not as fast or smooth! Thanks!
I see a NEW couch in the cabin, you didn't mention it but I haven't seen it before. Great video by the way, the new system seemes to have some getting use too.
Awhile back I suggested building extensions for your steel tubes. The way these new pieces hook together is kinda what I had in mind. The only big difference would be using angle iron for the connector. Using a piece of angle iron that would slide into your steel and 1/4" or 3/8" thick so you can drill holes and thread them in the angle iron.
You would need to grind the shape corner off the angle iron so it fits tight to the inside of the steel tubes. With holes drilled to match the holes in the andle iron, you bolt through the steel into the angle iron with bolts coming through from one side and the bottom. This would align the two sections straight on both the sides and top.
This would leave a smooth top to run the mill on. With two more steel tubes as long as the first set you could mil logs twice as long.
Granted you would have to mill such logs where they fall. You have to do this occasionally now. With your new saw and being able to mill larger diameter logs this may happen more often now.
Being able to make longer lumber can be handy for some uses.
Wooden crane to lift logs onto your the size horses. Couple pivots and a counter weight.
Enjoy your videos! I've got a couple of 42 inch 7 ft walnut logs to mill, and 36" bar and mill, whatever am I going to do! 😅 time for 48" bar and mill I guess......
Hang on, new shelves on the back wall? Did I miss something?! Niiiice couch tho.
Here’s a tip … keep an eye on the all thread screws …. They’ll vibrate out and fall into your sawdust
Getting older, smarter and thinking it through, like a middle aged man would do.
I do enjoy watching and learning,.
I have never milled a log, and I probably never will. But you make it so interesting, nonetheless. I like your enthusiasm.
Spruce is amazing. You can build lightweight but strong ladders and scaffolds. Howard Hughes, but the "Spruce Goose" airplane with it.
Lots of fun...as always
Granberg rails are for those without solid boxtubing
Love the video Ryan informational 👍❤️🥰🤗
"... a salted, deep-fried, 9-volt battery..."
LOL!! And and that's why I watch your channel! 👍😎🇨🇦🌲🙃
your old system WAY better
I did the same thing first time I used those rails, didn't run the screw down far enough and hit it with the mill.
Those long rails need a laser guide to adjust it with. :-) Also allen key to adjust the legs would be better!
I mill so much spruce here in Alaska and it’s amazing building material
When you ask us to lift the end of the log please allow time to remove the dog from my lap - put my thermals on and open the door - I was almost ready to lift the log- almost but not quite.😊
So next week you bring in the couch on the wheeler? Yeah the one on your left there! Time traveling is fun!!😂😂
My first rail system was the EZ Rail system, which I used for years. But when I found your system, I made a set and won’t go back to the EZ Rails.
Great video thanks for sharing. Coulda done without the close up of the bugs though. Lol. Keep it up man.
Granberg is no joke!
One more tip … that slab wood is either live edge siding …or …. Wait for it …. Fence boards
Thanks for making mistakes for us, and teaching by you learning!👍Now we won't be just 'milling around' HEE HEE!
Your video shows how 99% of us DIYers would do it. Instructions are good for those soft hand book readers🤓… but tend to find it makes a better fire starter for me. 😁
As nice as the new Grandberg mill is, your old homemade system seems a LOT easier to set up and use....simpler is better! What give with the new couch in the cabin? Must have been interesting getting it out there and through the cabin door??
Break down and build a kiln. Guess what, you could also use it to store some tools to keep them dry and warm.
Granberg Mill Rails better get with it and sponsor Ryan.
Really considering buying some acreage and building my own tiny place, quasi off grid. This is great as I'd like to build my place with local wood from the land I buy. Am looking at several this week. Am chainsaw literate but not mill.
Nice mill
I had the same problem with the leveling screws rattling out. I had to use rubberbands to tension them. other than that i really like these rails
Love me some buttered plastic.
Considering the wood waste from milling, and all of the wood stacked up, it seems foolhardy to not have a wood heater in your cabin. It would save so much on propane too. More bucks for salty snacks!
Or a wood gas generator
Ry my dude..just got the diamond back side kick 22lr and 22mag, you should definitely check it out many benefits over the wrangler but same look
When you get longer screws get shorter ones as well ... kudos
Ooh! Dewalt has a 20v pressure washer you just need a bucket!:)
Love the addition of the couch! Have you ever watched the RUclips video of THE GIRL IN THE WOODS? The episode called, Well Install With A Sledge Hammer??? That would make for interesting viewing on your channel! 😊
