Love your jams dude! I think you would make some amazing melodic stuff with this, the mental block to go from traditional workflow to tuning oscs isn't too bad to get used to!
Also - from what I've heard, it is possible to sync the device to external devices that have a clock, for example: the Roland TR8S, which should allow you to utilize this synth for future projects that are less organic and more tempo based if that makes sense.

The Solar 42 is an awesome creative piece. No connections is actually kinda cool. It focuses the user to make art with just that piece Your comment about commercial music being rewarding is debatable. IMHO It’s Not rewarding. Commissioned Commercial music of any kind is a soul sucking experience. My experience as a commercial music composer for over 40 yrs, should be a cautionary tale for all. Yes, you will make money. Yes you will feel a sense of accomplishment. But in the end, trust me. You won’t remember most of them. You will however, remember what you created just for the sake of creation…

I guess, for me personally, coming from doing a high pressure corporate job before music gained momentum was such a dark and horrible experience that I am currently in the honeymoon phase where even doing Ad music is still giving me joy because it feels so good to be able to do that instead of corporate work. You are absolutely right though, we all crave that feeling of creating art so much, which is why I think synths like this are such a breath of fresh air, because it forces you to enjoy the journey vs using it as a tool to get to your destination of a finished piece to submit. I will eventually make a video on this topic, how it is interesting that the music landscape today almost forces you into being a jack of all trades, because I agree - given my choice I would stick only to the most creatively rewarding types of compositions and stick far away from commercial stuff. But to sum it all up, doing music that is by the numbers still beats doing literally any other job for me :)

I say partially because if you become successful at writing and producing music commercially, you will have pressure Like you never ever felt before. You will merely be a different part of the commercial food chain. In order to stay sane, I always made sure to balance that world with the rest of society, by doing something good for my fellow humans. Many things from volunteering my time at highschools and universities, to doing free work for a cause I might be interested in. Take that synth out to your local high school and show it to the students. Let them play with it. Get them involved and interested. It will come back to you 100 fold, years later when one of those kids comes up to you in some random place, and thanks you for starting their career.

Definitely going to treat myself next year for my birthday with this. It would fit in perfectly for me and the music I create. I haven't seen too many talk about the efx cards for it. Are they good on their own? Can you edit them? Or should you use external efx pedals?
You can't edit the fx (unless you count tweaking the X, Y, and Z knobs/cv inputs). Somewhere I hallucinated that Elta sold a hardware kit you could use to burn your own, but I'm not finding any evidence of it now.
@@wbmatter1that kind of sucks. So you can tweak on the fly but it won’t save your tweaks then? It’s still an interesting idea of swapping out the efx cards.

according to the official website: the 42 has two white noise generators, while the 42F does not. plus some other things here: - New, stable filter circuit - Stereo distortion in the filter section - Fixed all bugs and errors - Fixed all the bugs and errors that were in the previous batch - Added sub oscillators in volt octave voices - Less noise, headphone volume knob does not rustle, stable power supply, 4. Slightly modified graphics - for convenience, inputs are labeled in black, outputs in red - Band Pass and Stereo distortion mode added to the filter - Bypasses for each channel of the effector - LED indication in the joystick unit - Toggle switches replaced by buttons in many places - Version 3 of firmware for the touch controller - Color separation of blocks using the controls. Blue - drone voices, green - volt octave voices, red - CV sources. Black - mixer, Orange - effector. - Separate outputs of volt octave voices are brought to the front panel on mini-jacks - Small changes in design - LIN/EXP input CV switch
I do music mainly! Look up Miles Away - Bring Me Back, it's my biggest song, but I also do a lot of composing work. I also do a lot of partnered videos with synth companies, they like having me demo their gear. This synth for example was sent for me to review; the long video will have that disclosure.

I did have a S6 and found it too limiting for me but I used it mainly for drone duties which it was really not designed for. This may cure my dronophobia lol.

yea - you can clock the sequencer/arpeggiator, but the drone voices cannot be accurately pitch sequenced with CV! They are too wild.
