  • Come along with me as I forage for wild grapes and apples in the countryside! My Mom taught me to gather wild grapes and apples to make the most delicious juice, jelly and applesauce! These wild fruits are so abundant here in Ontario and the best part, they are free!
    There are a couple berries that grow around where wild grapes thrive and I show you two varieties that grow on our property very close to the grape vines! I will show you the difference between grapes and these poisonous berries and what to watch out for!

    My neighbors backyard is WILD. All sorts of things constantly come over under and through my 6-foot privacy fence. First it was black raspberries. Hey thanks neighbor!!!!
    And each year there were slightly more and slightly more of these weird vines I've never seen before.
    This year there were finally so many of them that I took the time to look up what they are and they are wild grapes!!!
    So I am letting them yeet themselves over my fence. I'm excited to see how many grapes grow into my yard over my fence. And I'm also excited to try making grape juice to can for the winter.

    Great video. Thank you for making very clear the difference between the berry types. I first watched the grape steam juicing video and had to watch this too. How wonderful to have such beautiful places to forage. I pray you were safe from the fires that ravaged Canada this summer. Living in N. California I know the destruction and pray for any that lost homes or were diminished in anyway. I spend every summer with baited breath and a fire plane can wake me from a dead sleep since the Campfire of Nov 8th, 2018. 🙏🌷

      Hi there! Yep...they grow wild everywhere here! My husband rolls his eyes because I travel with baskets and slam on the brakes of the car when I see a good patch growing along a fence! I'm always prepared to harvest loads of wild grapes for juice and jelly! They are more tart than the Concord grapes and much smaller too but they make such great jelly!

    Hoping our grapevines really take off next year - this year they were just introduced and didn't do much of anything (except attract rabbits...ha). I could almost taste the soon-to-be-made grape jelly watching this video!

    Great tips on wild grapes. I harvested some concord grapes which are now in the freezer. Hoping to try jelly later on.

    Great video. I am in the Chicago area and have a large patch of wild grapes nearby. This will be my first harvest. We have other berries too. Good & bad, so it is extremely important to pay attention.

    Hi
    How are you?
    Please don't be ungry because of me. I will ask you the last question. Please let the answer be :Yes or No
    Will you make video this year or next year about grape crushing with your feet or no?

    • @alanacawker-therusticwife
      @alanacawker-therusticwife  2 года назад +2

      Hi Maya! Unfortunately I won't be making a video about crushing grapes by foot. I have a juice extractor and that is what I use to get the most juice from the grapes that we collect...it is quite easy to use and also an easy clean up too, which is nice! Hopefully you can find a video somewhere that uses that method! Have a great evening!
