Big Narstie and Kano were both on a Young man standing set years ago when Big Narstie went under the name MC Narstie. This segment of the show felt pure old school.
Always impressed how UK MCs still have that foundation of freestyling live with the DJ. Plus these are mainstream guys, USA rappers lost this foundation, you will never catch them doing a live freestyle connecting with the crowd and the DJ. These guys embody true hip hop and showmanship.
Thats because the uk scene(GRIME) wasn't built on hiphop
Was kind of built on the same roots and have entwined back and forth
But yeah it’s more dancehall lineage through jungle, rave, garage and this was kind of the cusp of it becoming grime, which more closely resembles hip hop
