I have the UME12 bought 2 years ago and nothing but praise for the machine, the value and the support I've received from UHI, including a recent warranty claim that was dealt with with no fuss and full satisfaction.

I got the UME12, could've gone the 12P but figured the extra money isn't worth the additions for me. I don't mind the front controls, its less complicated and will be simpler for valve related troubleshooting. The thing that really strikes me as a bonus for the UME12P is the form factor. Quite a piece of kit there!

Hi Dave Next time you're talking to Alex mention to him that he is losing sales to his competitors because UHI wont mix and match accessories to suite individual customers. I have augers I run off my tractor which also has a 4 in 1 bucket so wanted to leave some accessories off but add a rock breaker instead. Unfortunately it was all or nothing. I can get the Rhino XN12-9 delivered from either Brisbane Or Melbourne to Newcastle $3K cheaper by leaving of some accessories and adding a breaker. Would rather run down to Sydney to buy a machine but $3K is a lot to pay for augers etc... that will never be used.

Cheers Dave, another good video. They certainly make nice looking machines and are striving to make them more user friendly. Just the improved access alone is a big thing. Did you actually get a chance to have a play on it to compare with your one?

A lot of nice improvements. Weird they kept the binnacle in front. No need for any of the remaining controls to be in front - should be mounted near the armrests or make them foot controls. Bizarre they don't offer hydraulic thumb as standard - they ran the plumbing for one - a hydraulic thumb on any excavator makes a huge difference.

Call me overly questioning but I'd be very interested to learn whether these joysticks actually use a true pilot control valve system or if they are just direct acting valves relocated to the newly positioned sticks (pilot controls are not named after aeroplane pilots as some believe, they are named because they use small pilot valves at the stick end to actuate the larger valves in the valve body that control the rams etc). Someone who's operated a UME12S needs to test drive this unit and see if it's different in the way it responds to inputs. The use of pilot valves is why larger excavators are more precise and smooth, it's not just because of where the sticks are positioned. This unit looks nice but also looks like it's from another family of excavators to the previous UME12S (which seems to be a version of the Rhinoceros XN12-S) and on youtube there is video of a new model of the Rhinoceros XN12-S that now has an access door at the back too (but no pilot controls). So many different permutations of these things coming thick and fast these days.

The engine in the umi 12-p is listed as a Kubota D902. Both you and Alex state that the machine is 16hp. The Kubota D902 specifications data sheets, states that the D902 is 16.1kw (not16hp) that makes the engine about 21.5hp that is is why it is also used to power the larger machines. Not trying to be picky, but the larger engine was a major factor in my decision to buy the 2024 umi12-p. Not arriving until mid Jan 2024 but I can wait.

Great video I'm looking at buying a machine just trying to decide .

  • @chaleurphantom1

Question; I am not sure if you addressed this or not. Does the UHI 12 have a dual pump? If not, would you know which models would? 15, 18, or 20? Thanks for the great videos.

Hi Dave, do you have any idea what the hydraulic filter part number is for a ume10? Much thanks in advance

Is it possible to to buy it with an hydrolic thumb installed? It's probably the only important feature missing.

Yes a nice looking machine. It seems like the gap between Japanese and Chinese excavators is closing.

So no foot pedals to control the boom or auger drive. That's definitely a step in the wrong direction as you need your hands on the pilot controls whilst using the auger. Now you'll be a hand down and unable to slew while drilling.
