Great video Julie! I personally don't play Everskies but I can see how this change could be upsetting to the user base and cause lots of controversy. The UI change definitely seems frustrating and as someone who has a lot of stress surrounding unexpected design changes I see how people could be upset about this. From an outsider perspective removing the forum seems like an extreme but almost expected response from user outrage about their lack of proper moderation. If hiring 100 moderators is unfeasible and you lack the ability to manage a community that is growing in toxicity the extreme response is one to remove the community even if its in the short term. People need to remember that this game is indie and is run by a small group of people. This is not the same as a huge corporation running a website with market research teams and experience in managing a large user base. This userbase seems hostile and reactionary, which is how many newer communities have grown these days. I can see how managing a site full of frustrations and anger towards the moderators could make them just want much of that hate to just disappear. It is important to listen to community input but it is difficult when there is also so much hate directed towards you at the same time making it impossible for the brain to comprehend and manage. I hope the devs can find a solution to this problem and are able to keep hostility low and community engagement high.

This all just shows me how much harder it is to create a forum-based social network game for older audiences. I've grown up on these and always wanted to start one,in the future when I do I will watch how certain mistakes and certain actions have to lead to certain things and hopefully use that data to make the best decisions for my game
this is like teachers telling cliques of teenagers to sort their problems out themselves. if you know a majority of your userbase is young, especially teenaged, you NEED to have some form of authority over them. otherwise, things are destined to get clique-y, dramatic and eventually cause the collapse of the social half of the game. if it becomes solely dress up, they’ll do the exact same thing in discord servers if they don’t have people stepping in and helping. ugh.
Everskies was the most toxic, hateful, explosive group I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with for a few weeks when I did play. And it was quite large too! If you were a calm reserved individual who didn't spill everything in your life on that website or got into uncomfortable petty dramas you were the minority by a long shot. It was swept away by Tik Tok brainrot kids/teens for sure. A lot of "movements" made by people about their friends being banned even though said friend did something much against the rules, saying that their friend was banned because they were "(insert here) phobic," just so much that there is too much to talk about, but it always enraged me how there was never a strong stance against these forums and instead, rallying and support for these "movements." It was chaos.

More Everskies drama, I'm not even surprised at this point. I always love forums on games (Especially in the kind of old-school forum style most vp games have) and all that I really did on Everskies was talk on the forums so I'm definitely just gonna drop the game if they remove it.

Hopefully Everskies will handle it better than them, since all they've done is double down on keeping it instead of making any fixes.
this whole thing just forces me to think... what else could they have done? if they'd enforced a stricter filter/mod rules from the get-go it could've worked, but knowing the tween/teen userbase there would've been complaints and finding ways around the filter eventually. ES really did get caught in a perfect storm... releasing as fast as possible to ride a fad wave, being too lenient and transparent about interaction with users therefore making moderating difficult, and having a particularly hard to please target demographic. in the meantime, i'm just gonna keep playing minigames and collecting my little pixel clothes, haha.

@@PSJulie I think part of the problem is that no one person is really prepared for moderating young teenagers. You can prepare parents to parent a small number of children, you can prepare teachers to look after a small number of students (I'm personally against big classrooms)... I’m so invested because of the amount of effort I’ve put into building like my wardrobe and participating in events since beta, but man something’s gotta change fast 😔
@@PSJulie I’m definitely thinking one of the biggest problems as a user right now, post-update, is the lack of reach any in-club forum post is getting. Scrolling through the “New” section on the home page, is just a wasteland of 0-3 response posts. Even in the larger clubs, the “trending” page is averaging 10 responses, when old popular forums used to get 100+ pages of responses. "calling out" is against everskies rules so that could've been why. I know folks see a lot of users calling people out and think it's okay, but it's really not. If someone is being racist, report them and block them. There isn't much they can do than just *be racist.* They don't need, nor do they deserve an entire post telling a handful of people that they're bad. They could've brought more attention to clubs in a different way, and that there was no reason to remove the forums. Like the main reason people used forums over clubs was that discussions could've been random and anyone could add their opinions , and now were limited to a certain amount of people and whatever clubs owners wanted. Just overall a dumb move.

As someone who has never played the game, I am curious whether the developer will make official discord bots to let players integrate their dolls and outfits into other sub communities. Because it is indeed true that removing the forums removes the easiest and most rewarding function for playing the game. Yes, dressing things up is cool, but I imagine people stick around for the community that is built around that. So, maybe fancy discord bots could help them spread their art while still letting players manage their own communities how they want. Spitballing out loud ahaha
I joined yestuarday and they havent made ANYTHING clear to new players . Alot of this its confusing and its very...stupid. i like it,but itll he perfect of the layout was easy.
welp, now that I know to avoid everskies altogether, anyone wanna recommend me some good doll dressup sites or apps? As for Gaia online...well, their virtual economy from what I've heard is beyond repair 😬
Ever skies is a good game I’d recommend it I’d avoid the chats and stuff if you don’t like drama but if you still are against ever skies you can try movie star planet 1 or 2. The community is kinda toxic as-well but isn’t as bad I think as ever skies.
Removing the forums is ableist? 🤣 Edit: oh, the layout is ableist...still, that's all you need to know to understand the demographic. If the kids can't handle the forums then the forums are taken away

Like the main reason people used forums over clubs was that discussions could've been random and anyone could add their opinions , and now were limited to a certain amount of people and whatever clubs owners wanted. Just overall a dumb move.
"Unable to connection" thanks everskies I can't play this game anymore
i just got back to everskies and im extremely overwhelmed by all the new updates :( it makes me automatically log off because i get a bit anxious at how different it is now. what a shame :(
all i wanna know is why it keeps logging me out of everskies and why its so laggy in the game.
I don't understand how the feed solves the moderation problem though.
Ooohh boi.... *never saw that coming* feels like early Christmas....
It was a true shock
Why can’t accounts under the „age“ of 7 days chat anymore?
The only wild part of the forums was general, for the *minors* .
Just joining the site I’ve heard so much stuff that makes me sad from how bad parrot is to the other mods the site is badly run and hopefully will be taken over by someone that isn’t like them
plus the update in january made everyone lose their clothes and profile stuff i stopped playing bc of that
By update do you mean game launch
They need to hire a UX and accessibility designer
how do u see how many ppl are online at the time?
As someone who has never played the game, I am curious whether the developer will make official discord bots to let players integrate their dolls and outfits into other sub communities. Because it is indeed true that removing the forums removes the easiest and most rewarding function for playing the game. Yes, dressing things up is cool, but I imagine people stick around for the community that is built around that. So, maybe fancy discord bots could help them spread their art while still letting players manage their own communities how they want. Spitballing out loud ahaha
The game lags to fucking much they need to stop updating the game period
I joined yestuarday and they havent made ANYTHING clear to new players . Alot of this its confusing and its very...stupid. i like it,but itll he perfect of the layout was easy.
welp, now that I know to avoid everskies altogether, anyone wanna recommend me some good doll dressup sites or apps? I used to really like Gaia online and LoveNikki, as much as I enjoyed LoveNikki and the event outfits they'd have their story mode can be really grindy and made me not want to play it anymore. As for Gaia online...well, their virtual economy from what I've heard is beyond repair 😬
Theyve fixed the economy somewhat but gaia online is a husk of its former self in terms of active userbase
Ever skies is a good game I’d recommend it I’d avoid the chats and stuff if you don’t like drama but if you still are against ever skies you can try movie star planet 1 or 2. The community is kinda toxic as-well but isn’t as bad I think as ever skies.
Omg playboi is the thumbnail lol
Parrot jjust listen to people already damn
My sister acc got banned for permanent just bc she's 10:/
Everskies is a 13+ site. Your sister shouldn't even be on the internet, no offense. Also if she was lying about her age that's also another reason
@@lunar4724 she didn't even lying on her age, but idk
Hey Uhm, I don't believe a user can register an account with a declared age of 10. Like Lunar said, lying about age is a bannable offense.
Removing the forums is ableist? 🤣 Edit: oh, the layout is ableist...still, that's all you need to know to understand the demographic. If the kids can't handle the forums then the forums are taken away
