Oh no! My evening...
Yes!
Oh no! My eyes from seeing unoriginal comments
😂😂😂
It just flies watching these 😂 but I wouldn't dare asking for this time back. So well spent
🤣🤣🤣🤣
These games really highlight why tricky gambits are so popular. With Eric committing to sound, solid chess for instructive purposes, a lot of opponents at this level are maintaining good positions deep into the middle game. I suspect Eric could shred most of these players in 15 moves with his more dubious repertoire.
The fact that you still haven’t even had a single draw at this level is astounding
Ya Rosen's dirty bro..
Whats his actually rating
@@MrDanielfff777 2700
@@BICIeCOMPUTERconGabriele no it cant be that high, he is not a gm
I think he’s between 2350 and 2450
14:10 that sequence is so insane, complex and beautiful.
Engines are on another level.
once you see the point it loses the "complexity". The thing is, in a normal game, you would never think of playing such move.
Even you thought about the Nxf7 move, you would likely be looking for tactics to win a piece or unleash an attack on the king, which there really isn't after Rxf7, not immediatly at least, and most people would probably stop the calculation there thinking it doesnt work.
To find Ng5 after Nxf7, you really gotta be on another level of pattern recognition, very beautiful sequence
@@vitorrodriguez4278 I don’t know if I’d say it loses the complexity…not saying I saw these moves, but the engine recommends this type of knight sac on f7 fairly often, in complicated positions like these, probably a move I need to consider more often
@@baseket2ball12 thats true, but when you are looking to sac on f7, the sequence is usually more straight forward, this one was quite hard to see.
i truly enjoy this series.. keep'em coming!
Eric Rosen is the only creator I trust enough to hit like before I watch the video ❤
Just got back from a night out and on the way home i was thinking "I hope Eric has put out his next video", and I just said "YESSS!" out loud when I saw the post haha
Yeah, but Roberto said it out loud literally.
How was the night? Did you get lucky?
@@MrDanielfff777 No but I met an amazing girl (very cute and a really kind person), and I'm gonna see her again normally so pretty good night
@Roberto-n6kb is your soul mate.
I even had my official Rosen mug out to watch this. 🍕🍵🍕
WATCHED TWICE IN A ROW, ERIC, YOU KEPT ME UP FAR TOO LATE TONIGHT AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!! ... HA! TRUE FACT BUDDY, I THANK YA, IT WAS GRAND AS USUAL. LOVE THE SPEED RUN PAL, YOUR EXPLANATIONS IN THINKING PROCESS KEEPS ME GLUED TO THIS SERIES. ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE NEXT EXCITING EPISODE! ... BLESSINGS TO YA, .. MIKE.
45:10 This is why you and I will never be titled players. How Eric casually goes into a 16-move book opening, most of which makes no sense to the naked eye LOL! And that's just ONE variation of ONE opening.
Best chess content period. Eric is dominating the category.
Every time there’s a Speedrun upload notification, I mimic hospital staff in 90’s TV shows when they received a pager. “Everything else can wait, there’s an emergency that needs my attention”
That's a familiar looking pawn/bishop setup.
Seems like there's a lesson for people at around this rating to not let your opponent take the whole center
Letting white take the full center is actually main line alapin stuff
i literally screamed "yesssssss" out loud when i saw the notification , i wasnt expecting to be blessed with two episodes in a row
You should date Alexander Gaillard, he said the same thing. 😮
Oh no! my productivity..
Eric, these videos are so helpful to me. Thank you.
43:48 Pawn e4 to e5 was amazing, I didn t see the mate until you said it. And taking the bishop was a brilliant bate for opponent. Congrats, you played perfectly for a human
Eric's chess is so calm and collected like his personality, very nice to watch. I guess it's true that your chess gets represented by your personality atleast a little bit. My is just wild chaos lol
Eric and domination go hand in hand 😊
These games are brilliant, thanks Eric. Fascinating watching how you dismantle an opponent.
Good and instructive. Thank you.
Crazy how you’ve been my nightly routine watch for like 3 years, thanks Eric 👊🏽
Love your videos! Keep it up ❤️❤️❤️
I really enjoyed this series! please make more speed runs
Eric pronounces "Erasmus" -- Aerosmith! LOL. 15:37 -- Eric, its Uh-razz-mus
Sleep gambit, my favorite!
Anyone else LOVE Eric and LOVE this series, but also LOVE waiting for that first loss 😈
Oh no! My favorite series back with another episode!
Thanks for the content man
Damn it I was about to start studying for my exam tmr but it can wait
Eric, you're the best 🎉!
In the first game you described the white pawn on d6 as a 'focal point.' In Vukovic's Art of Attack he defines 'focal point' as a square where a mating attack culminates. There's no particular reason to accept or use Vukovic's definition but I thought I'd mention it. Thx for the game.
Oh yes! My morning :)
Great games!
10:38 Nc5 looked beautiful there
Final 30 seconds analysis: the engine just puts the king on g3... XD XD XD
10:31 oh no my queen 😂
Hi Eric. I love this series. Against 1.d4, you clearly like the QGD, though I think I've seen you play the Nimzo. Have you ever experimented with g6 based defences such as the KI, Grunfeld and Benoni? Any thoughts about these?
We want to see you and Levy play. 10-minute games would be good.
eric, with your game with erasmus, he is playing far above his rating. the move f3 from white was to prevent your potential brilliancy move of bishop takes g2!!! follow up by knight takes e3 double check and then checkmate. if your opponent is not using stockfish on some of his moves, then someone way above this rating is playing you in my opinion.
Working but saved for lunch break :-)
This run is amazing. I can’t believe he hasn’t run into a cheater.
It's nice to see `perfect` games. I would like to see Eric 'blunder' in the first moves (like I usually do) and then try to get back in the game. I'm sure it would prove useful to see how to play 'solid' after small mistakes.
Opponents are getting stronger :)
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
I just started played chess 3 months ago and learned so much from your speedrun series. Yesterday reached 1500 after starting from 400. Always trying to play solid like you do and opponent eventually blunders. But it feels like I've reached a stopping point on elo climb. How do I improve from this point onwards?
Study. Lots of puzzles and theory. I broke 2100 blitz after 6 months of 30 minutes a day of puzzles and 30 minutes a day of theory (opening and end game). 45 minutes of rapid, 15 minutes of blitz. I start with 5 minutes of mate in 1 puzzles. Puzzles on Lichess. Playing on Chess
Once you have 7 or so openings you know well and understand at least the concepts of what you’re going for in different situations then study the refutation theory of the opening your opponents beat you with.
@@pjhansen19 I also have time management issues on blitz so I only play rapid for now. I do puzzles a lot but I have a hard time memorizing opening theories so currently only sticking to 4 openings 2 for each side
Solid italian play 😂
I have a sort of generic question. I always watch your vids but I am hitting a ceiling below 1000. What should I do to improve. Study openings in depth? Study traps? I was around 900 but have not played for a while and I am not getting at rank 900 right now.
Here's an idea. What about instead of including a selfie of you as 1/2 the thumbnail, you have AI generate a piece of artwork based on your title of the episode, adding chess pieces to the prompt of course. (And as an added thing you could get it to include you as a character in each one. Although, I don't know if there's software like that where you can upload a picture of yourself for AI to include in the generated image or not.)
43:51 oh no, no oh no my bishop 😢
Oh no! My morning! But, oh yes! My entertainment!
Hey Eric, can you try using the new chatgpt model in chess and see how good it plays?
Eric could you please point out why it is important to play h6 to kick off the white’s bishop. I came across that move in some mainlines of QGD like structures as well as in your second game in this episode. But I don’t fully grasp the importance. For instance in your case you could have seemingly played a5 right away, but instead you also followed that rule of a6. I would appreciate some clarification. I am 1900+
Good question! Here are my thoughts...
h6 is generally a useful move to include, as it provokes white's bishop to commit to the kingside (usually to h4) and creates some air for the black king. Generally, it's not great for white to trade on f6, but this always something to consider before playing h6. Assuming the bishop commits to h4, this give black the flexibility to consider g5 with tempo in future positions. It's not always super important (like the positions featured in this video), but there's usually very little downside to including h6 in these QGD structures. The reason why I don't play it sooner is because if I can get a Cambridge Springs, the bishop can be a tactical target with Qa5 and Ne4 hitting g5.
@@eric-rosen thank you for the detailed answer 😊. I am sometimes hesitant to throw in h6 when my other night might do a Spanish walk to g6 and assuming there is a battery on that diagonal I would not mind much to trade that knight for white’s other bishop. Therefore, h6 sort of rejects that possibility and commits to another approach. I appreciate your response! I wasn’t sure you had time to read through comments 😀
first game i thought it was going to transpose into a ponziani looking variant after black n-g6 except black hadn't played p-e5. i suppose that's why you went with the gambit instead of pxd5
In the third game, black's knight on a5 clearly did something very bad and is trying to hide from its own pieces.
Eric please say yippee next time you get a mate after a long battle
continue this series all the way to GM eric
absolutely destroying my sleep schedule
12:25
Perhaps when you get a checkmate or finish a game, you could enlarge the webcam scene so that we can look at you as you're talking!
They should make a series on the story of the pawn from game one
"Im gonna play this and then think" exactly my style of playing chess. But somehow it doesnt work out so well for me
14:16 is insane move
How many days ahead do you upload these? I want to catch you I'm about an 1850 rapid
I usually post these 1-2 days after recording. I just play random opponents in the 10-minute pool, so your best chance to catch me is to follow "ohnomyrosen" on chess.com
@@eric-rosen
5:30 What is the point in putting the a rook to d1 instead of the f one?
Possibly because he saw the possibility of the f file opening up after f4 and allowing the rook on f1 to target the black king position.
I was envisioning my f-rook going to e1 as the e-file is half open for white and it could be useful in supporting the knights. I also thought that there might be cases where my bishop ends up dropping back to c2 and b1, and I didn't want my rook on a1 to get stuck. Usually these decisions should be based on what you think is the most harmonious setup for your pieces.
@@eric-rosen Thanks a lot! In my mind that move was never an option, but moving the other rook there made sense to me as I could move the other one to the open file.
Last opponent is actually pronounced as "shukhrat" because "x" is "kh" in cyrillic and he is from Uzbekistan.
Yes yes 💪
yo is this the thumbnail from the series "stafford gambit"
Hello Eric if you get to 2000 without losing put the gigachad Eric for your pfp that would be dope as hell
@19:04 - what am I missing? Wouldn't Nd7 lose a piece after Bxf6? Now black's bishop and knight both hang?
After Ncd7 Bxf6, black can play Nxf6 and not lose material
@@eric-rosen Ah, thank you! What blindness on my part.

bishop f1 is also Bens move 🙂

Wasn't Qc7 an obvious win? Black would not have been able to defend himself!
With Qc8, it was more of a fight, even though Eric won that game pretty comfortably.
Is it me or these people at 1700 rating made more blunders then people at 1300-1400 👀

Soon! Probably once I hit 1800
"For choice." You keep on using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Qc7 instead of Qc8 was probably more accurate.
24:37 why can't black take on g3?
on g2? because white can play Nc6 blocking the queen's vision
