There are now 999 videos on your channel and soon there will be 1000. Congratulations in advance. I really like your video series, they explain things well, and I also like when you say after a successful laptop repair, WE HAVE A PICTURE, that's great.
Greetings from Germany.
Absolutely, intuition and years of experience plus loads of talent = our man Sorin.
Beautiful intuition, I would not have thought.
leave a sticker wiyh " dodgy chipset " written , for next guy...
Thanks again Sorin for your help, fingers crossed it will last awhile if not I guess we’ll look to replace the motherboard. 👍🏻
As always, another great job from master sorin
So expect to see this laptop back in several months/
That was a great job, mate.👍👍
You'll need a low profile heatsink on top of the thermal pad on the chipset chip; a thermal pad by itself won't do a whole lot.
You were too late to say "we have picture!". I said on behalf of you when I saw the Dell logo. Please keep your eyes on screen and don't wait us you to say this most important sentence. 😄
Great job!
wow that was good thought
A bit counterintuitive - heat the snot out of the chipset to make it work again, then keep it cold to keep it working. Replacement not an option?
I got the cheapest clip for my BIOS programmer from Aliexpress, one that hangs onto the chip by itself, although it's a little finnicky to get on right.
But when it's on, you don't have to hold it by hand at least.
Such fault will repeat itself, it will be better to remove the ic completely and reinstal (overflow) it again... to avoid future occurance
Did you not hear him at the end reballing wont help
This laptop will become a regular guest in this channel.
Hello Sorin, different fact, I cleaned two ornamental two trees of resin "tears" (probably wounds of the tree), from those that make many cones like some larger cloves, and used them for desoldering. It works well, I have to do more tests, it also smells very nice.
Great Job Sorin as always.
may i know what is the programmer cable you use to flash the bios?
my cable is bad.
always miss the bios leg pin and cannot read the ic.
thank you

Hello🤝good job 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👋👋👋👋
I had a faulty chipset, the first symptom was error 43 on gpu. Local repair did not diagnose it properly, I ordered gpu replacement (old laptop), it did not change anything. Later I discovered chipset gets extemely hot, but still it worked, until one day it blew up with a smoke. The cause was my attempt to replace thermal paste without unplugging battery, so suspecting gpu issue made sense at first.
master will be master
I would just in case put rosin under the chip, heat it and then put the thermal pads to cool it better. This way if this laptop would die sometime, you know you tried all the best you could without replacing the chipset itself.
Thanks Sorin. I watch every video of yours. Does your programmer provide power for all chips connected at the same power rail as the EFI/BIOS chip?
14:24 to 14:37 Sorin got bugged in matrix :D
He was following just where all neutrons are going.
12:49 That not a possibility here? Just like the baking video cards to get them going again, why can that can be excluded here , i wonder. Anybody ???.........explanation (if there is a simple one) s.v.p..
You could flash the original bios from 10 months ago.
Thanks for sharing. You mean the actual chip itself is crappy? So it is not the solder? Or does bad thermal make it come off or come lose internally? I used to have a contact that reballed old Apple G3 GPUs. If Apple did it they failed after a year, but when he did it it lasted for years. He had an industrial sort of oven with a profile he figured out. Thermal pad may work, newer models of the Precision I have, have a cooling pad and copper on it. Awesome find, love to know how you apply cooling and how long it lasts! And still hoping for you to answer to that email from Sweden ;).
we'll wait and see.
I give it 6 months after the reflow.
to be informed by the owner
In my course about 99 percent of the people are using dell and HP computer, so please make videos of fixing these computers thanks regard
If you look and pay atention to Sorins videos you will be able to fix any brand. does not matter if it is HP, Dell, Lenovo.
Interesting fault❤
Intel Chipset has no this issiue like old gpus. Same effect you willget if you push the chip. You have to reball the chipset the problem is cracked solderbals between chipset and mainboard.
I don't know how to diagnose and repair the board, I don't even have the right equipment to do the job, so I would have taken a chance on replacing the motherboard.
Dell Precision 7550 Motherboard System Board Core i7 2.6GHz Hex Core CPU - 4JGVR - $249.95 refurbished
Refurbished is the same deal, gpu or super IO chip
What was that HDMI media player box you've shown in one of your videos not far back?
You said that it served you well for many many years without any problems, and it played any file type you've throwned at it?
I just can't find it anymore that video.
Thanks.
edit. I guess it was Egreat EG-M34A
How does it compare to the e-Boda HD FOR ALL 600 WEB?
I do not understand why Dell moved from having the chipset cooled by the heatsink, as on some older Precisions ie. m6600 or m4800, to simply having them exposed with no cooling mechanism other than ambient air such as the one shown in the video🙅♀
I've also noticed that some Dell Precision models run hotter thus causing heat related issues sooner, so I drill additional holes in the bottom cover to assist in cooling.
This chipset doesnt need that for operating, its just several watt, operating temp only around 60 deg c.
You applied way, way too much thermal paste on the cpu which i saw at the start of the video - this can also negatively affect thermal performance. If you cant eyeball how much is needed, use a spatula to spread the paste evenly and add a tiny dab of paste in the middle - this will ensure perfect coverage with no gaps
How can it affect thermal performance?
I do not understand. I can understand that by heating the contacts they melt and repair them, but that the chip itself is repaired by heating it is not clear to me
Search for "fcbga diagram" and you'll se how they are internally connected.
There are multiple solder points under the chipset so Sorin has warmed them up to melt the solder and remake the contacts,
Its not a solder ball issue the issue is inside the chip itself, there is a microscopic crack in a trace somewhere heating it causes thermal expansion and the crack closes so it starts working again. But the issue will come back as the board constantly heats and cools the break in the chip will happen again
@@Arachnoid_of_the_underverse no, this was not about the solder being bad, the chipset is broken inside due to it's body expanding/shrinking because of temp differences between the on/off laptop. See it as a wire breakage, sometimes when you hold the wire in a certain angle the machine still works. By heating the chipset Sorin got lucky it got back into a working position. He used the thermal pad to reduce the limits of the expanding/shrinking trying to make it a more average endurance for the chipset and hoping it will keep working. But since there will still be a temprature difference everytime the laptop is on and off, the chipset will die in the end regardless ...
What brand / model is that programmer you used?

Sir send me the link of Bois programmer
Google Revelprog IS, maybe?

very expensive laptop
Reballing understood after very long time that actually doesnt differ than heating up the chip ,cause it is internally faulty one of or multiple inside pins are cracked inside of chip ,so reballing is a myth now.
lol, it's not a myth
What a silly comment, where’s you pull that one from ?😂
@@MrReeceyburger123 İt is not a sodler ball fault besides a little rosin and heat up solve the most problems about sodler balls isuuses ,most of the faults are generally about internal cracks of the pin ,didnt you hear that if you dont hear now from me.
@@davianceable chips which get fixed automatically with heat like this die again after a short period, this is not a proper fix.
@@kepler104 yes but reballing also works for short period it isnt about solder balls under it.
jajajaja smart
so, the chipset needs to be reballed!!!
no the chipset is defective, needs replacing
@@ДимитърАндонов-ъ7е that's what Sorin said. But he doesn't have the tools to do a REBALL, he did only a REFLOW(kind of). The laptop will go not work anymore soon. Same problem like today
The chips faulty champ reball won't fix it has internal fault i have seen this before reball did nothing.
.@@adaniel69
You're telling me that faulty chipsets are STILL being made??
Cmon people i thought this was an issue during the 2000s
@@lukedavis436 dell latitude d830 gpu vibes :)
The chipset is healthy, but it needs reballing. You only did reflow and not even a good one. That was a perfect moment for your rosin to shine but you missed it. You always say that you can solder chipsets but cant find a healthy one. Well... what more do you want?
No he didn't do reflow. He simply heated the chip to prove a point, the chip is internally faulty. This is a known thing for at least 15 years with large bga chips that run hot. This is why people should add heatsinks or heatpads to all things including tv video board bga chips otherwise they will eventually fail from getting too hot. They are designed that way and manufacturers purposely do not put heatpad there so it will fail because manufacturers do not like things to last 20-30 years.
@@g4z-kb7ct Things don't just repair by themselves when heated - only solder does that. He "repaired" the solder joints only temporary. I've done that in the past too but with temporal effect. And adding thermopads and pressure on the chip doesnt work. May add few hours/days worktime maybe...
He said that the problem isn't with the Solder Balls. The internal circuit ot Chipset is gone.
@@renter84 In my comment I did not say it 'repairs' it. Watch the video about why fat PS3 fails and can't be fixed and you will see it is a known issue where the connections inside bga chips fail. It is known and well documented.
