5k PB Attempt - Istasca Octoberfest 5k 2022

  • 5k PB attempt at the Itasca Octoberfest 5k. This is a local race that has a history of having a lot of fast competition. Having a fast field doesn’t typically benefit me, as I’m not usually at the front of the pack anyway, but it is an indicator that the course is a quick one. Itasca and the Itasca Runners Club didn’t disappoint. The course was fast, fun, and well organized. Even though I was battling a head cold, I was able to still manage an 8 second PB, coming in 7th overall with a 1st place in my age group.
    Itasca Octoberfast 5k chip time: 18:52

    Ran my First 5k that same day. I'm about 235 and been training for it for about 3 months having previously not run for many many years and being not so great to my body during that time. I finished the race barely under a 37 which was a whole 3 minutes faster than my goal of 40 minutes. Just found your channel and find it very motivational. Thank you!

    The best races often come on the days we have lower expectations for ourselves. Both my half and marathon PR came on races when after my warm-up I thought that I "didn't have it today" and lowered my expectations for the race. Strange how that works sometimes. Anyway, awesome effort Mike, congrats on the PR!

We are so glad you enjoyed the race and look forward to you and your daughter running next year. As you noticed, it’s a family event as much as a fun, fast paced competitive race. Right, that's all I kept thinking about was this dude holding a camera 🤳!!
      Just curious is this really necessary, do people tune in for that part of video. It doesn't do anything for me. Just have a few people film you start, middle and finish, no?

    • @WhatMatterstoMatt
      @WhatMatterstoMatt Год назад +1

      I like the camera I feel it can add to the video. I’m also curious about whether it would change the results or not. I’m actually out on my runs all the time with my GoPro shooting video for my runs and for the most part it seems fine in terms of the weight of holding it not being a problem, but more about not being quite as focused on the run and worrying about filming a little bit

    This shows how race environments create a different psychology: our training, usually pretty isolated, is suddenly shaped into a performance thats in relation to those around us. That can help or hurt us, and it looked like it helped you here. Congrats, Mike.

I do some filming myself with a stick on my Insta360 and i find it quite difficult during speed days to do so (as you need to be fully synchronized with your arms/legs to push hard and focus on the route), still grateful you do for all of us though :))
