Ran my First 5k that same day. I'm about 235 and been training for it for about 3 months having previously not run for many many years and being not so great to my body during that time. I finished the race barely under a 37 which was a whole 3 minutes faster than my goal of 40 minutes. Just found your channel and find it very motivational. Thank you!
The best races often come on the days we have lower expectations for ourselves. Both my half and marathon PR came on races when after my warm-up I thought that I "didn't have it today" and lowered my expectations for the race. Strange how that works sometimes. Anyway, awesome effort Mike, congrats on the PR!
Congrats on your PB! I’m part of the committee who planned the race. We really appreciate you running and sharing on your site! We are so glad you enjoyed the race and look forward to you and your daughter running next year. As you noticed, it’s a family event as much as a fun, fast paced competitive race. Good luck to you in your future races!
Love that you are being an example to your daughter and roughed though the cold to participate. Sounds like it all worked out. Love seeing the progression of your growth, both as a runners and creator.
A number of years ago, I ran in the Ithasca Oktoberfast 5K. I thought it to be the same...flat fast course, great atmosphere, great people. They did a good job!
Congrats Michael! Sounds like a great day was had. A great reminder that sometimes you just need to dig deep no matter how you’re feeling (within reason)
Right, that's all I kept thinking about was this dude holding a camera 🤳!! Just curious is this really necessary, do people tune in for that part of video. It doesn't do anything for me. Just have a few people film you start, middle and finish, no?
I like the camera I feel it can add to the video. I’m also curious about whether it would change the results or not. I’m actually out on my runs all the time with my GoPro shooting video for my runs and for the most part it seems fine in terms of the weight of holding it not being a problem, but more about not being quite as focused on the run and worrying about filming a little bit
I totally appreciated this race recap, especially for something as finishing a 5k and whatever goes on in your mind during the race and especially the knowledge you imparting to your daughter 👌🏼 please do more of these 🙌🏻
This shows how race environments create a different psychology: our training, usually pretty isolated, is suddenly shaped into a performance thats in relation to those around us. That can help or hurt us, and it looked like it helped you here. Congrats, Mike.
Congrats on the PB and can’t wait to hear your 100 on the Takumi Sen 8s. For me personally I’ve been using it in a similar use as a daily trainer/ workouts and Adios Pro 2s for long runs/ marathon workouts. Since falling with them I’ve bought multiple other pairs and hopefully adidas can somehow make a great shoe better 🙌🏽
congrats on the PB! Love the hints on the conversations you make with your daughter, mine is 5 but I am keeping note on what and how to get her into running. Thanks for that too (:
great race, congrats! and nice time that was my 6ld pb when i was 20! now with 50 im in 23 in the adizero pros im chasing the 21 barrier soon with the takumi sen in the near future!
Thanks for sharing . I enjoyed your insights about the mental side of it. I find that I have too negative an outlook and that has a big impact on one’s ability achieve . Well done on the PR. Small local races are really great !
I also love a downhill finish. The biggest race in Toronto finishes uphill, and it makes everyone look rough at the finish line -- right where you want to look like a pro. Your running form looks really good, especially for filming simultaneously.
I really hope you are planning for another 5k in October! Without a head cold and with cooler weather and without a selfie stick, you will fly! Keep pushing my friend!
Great Video. I have a 10k race at the weekend and being new to RUclips content creation i was thinking about doing a Video similar but was unsure how to get it out. I like your footage but your recap is insightful and engaging. Thanks.
Congrats on the PR!! I am also training for a Chicago! Can’t wait. Happy training😊 I’m curious what you will be racing Chicago in for a shoe? I picked up a pair of endorphin pro 3’s which I am excited try out this week.
Congrats man ! I’m always wondering watching your videos if you don’t think you’ll gain some precious seconds (especially during speedy races like a 5k) if you weren’t filming in the same time ? I do some filming myself with a stick on my Insta360 and i find it quite difficult during speed days to do so (as you need to be fully synchronized with your arms/legs to push hard and focus on the route), still grateful you do for all of us though :))
great video and story telling. I took note of the social distancing at the start even for a 5k. Quite a contrast to the Clearwater half where we were cramped.
I love the TS 8 for my track work. It’s a little too firm for road workouts, I like a bit more protection. On the track though, its perfect. I haven’t done any short races lately but I’m sure it will be great.
Ko, congrats on a new PR! It has been very inspirational to see you hit PRs in recent time. Even if you don’t hit PRs, I still am motivated to run or do whatever is challenging in life by your running training videos.
Must feel good getting a PB, I'm going to shoot for mine on Dec 10th. Did an unsolicited 5k on Oct 1st after not running literally at all for 3+ years (and that was another unsolicited 5k without running for nearly 5 years before that), ran a measly 32:XX, just ran 4.2 miles today, 8 weeks later, and got 27:03 on my 5k without REALLY trying...hoping for sub 25min on the 10th! What are group are you in? PS: you have undeniably the best running content on youtube, love all of your videos, especially the shoe reviews.
Congratulations on your PB! Had to have been the fist bump power up I gave you the day before at Lippold 😜 Hope to run into you again...maybe over at VA/Sterne's sometime. One of my daughters is in her first year of XCountry in 8th grade @ Beardsley. Just shared this with her as she has a race at Lippold tomorrow. -Jason
“Nothing new on race day” holds so true as I wore my new VF2’s for a tempo workout last night and boy did my feet hurt, thank goodness it wasn’t my actual race
Have the Takumi sen 8 myself and although I love the shoe a lot the upper is terrible. I have a hole in each upper now so will be retiring them soon, hopefully they can update jller for the 9 as it's an awesome shoe.
4k120fps linear. I might bring an extra battery if I'm running a marathon and I know there is going to be a lot of travel to get to the race start (like NY or CIM). typically, I don't bring any extras
depends on what kind of long run. If it's just easy miles, then I'll reach for a max cushion shoe or daily trainer. If it's a workout (e.g. 16 miles with 10 at marathon effort), then a carbon plated shoe.
Ya 5ks, have to focus whole time. But I found longer warmup and pretending it's a longer race takes pressure off. Never carried a camera but I carried a football in a sub 17 5k and that was tough
i made my half marathon pb at 1 27 when i was 21 and in recall that i arrived late to the start and needed the bathroom and the gun got off the race started and with out warmup and with unfinished business i ran a ran the fastes half marathon of my life at hte moment 1 27 was a 10 minute pr using a pair of asics gel racer 88 the same model tha used Geiindo Bordin at seoul olympics great shoe, low to the ground very lightweight and flexible

awesome brother 🤙🏼🤙🏼
didn't realise you are in the 40-44 yr category. all the running is keeping you young! well done!

Sometimes we need to get out of our own way, I think
@@kofuzi I completely agree!
Excellent, well done - I broke my 5K PB at the weekend at the local Parkrun - 18:49, I didn’t think I’d break 20 let alone 19 this year!
I can't wait to break 20 as well. im so close. excellent job keep it up
@@alvaromontes2713 keep going - won’t be long!

It was a pleasure meeting you at the race, Mike! Congrats on your PR!

Highly recommend. Great race

Very introspective commentary, and good insight into your parenting thoughts too! Congratulations on the PB.
wow, what a well organized and totally amazing event this was! Amazed by that club who set it up!
They did a very good job
Imagine how much faster you would go without holding a camera!!!!! I do love your videos and admire all of your hard running work!
😂 true true
Everyone's big question lol

Great run Mike 🏅
Thanks Chris!

Congrats on your PB!! Well earned and deserved!
Hey Mike.
Awesome video as always. 😎
Solid effort and great performance. A PB is a PB! 🎉🥳
I think we can all work to not be so hard on ourselves a bit more. A pb is a pb. Thats awesome man!
"Any day that you can run faster than you've ever run before is always a good day..." #thatsafactjack Congrats!

Awesome work Mike! Its like that old adage about only going out for a beer and "things happen from there" LOL Keep up the great work
TS8 helped me to Pb last month. Just a great shoe when you are pushing, especially if the course has a few turns.
Congrats! Great content and love these videos. They are down to earth, honest, and relatable.
Nice work Ko! You are the Road Beast!
Congratulations on the PB..

Downhill ftw

Congrats on the PR! This was definitely great to see with my upcoming 5k in less than a month! Hoping to PR that one for sure!
Well done. My daughter also started XC and I am trying to explain to her that the well is deep if she is willing to push past the mind games.
Thanks Kofuzi. I have ran 2 5k's this year and i am seeing a tendency to start out too fast. Trying again in October.
Congrats on the PR!!! and the hardware 🥇
I really like you running races of all different distances.
Another banger of a video - Kofuzi da GOAT!
Love your channel Mike! Thanks for the quality content!

I picked up a pair of endorphin pro 3’s which I am excited try out this week.
I was initially thinking Adios Pro 3, but I may save that for Boston 2023. So maybe Endo Pro 3
You look great for your age. And I really like your channel. Great content and very informative. Thanks!
Fantastically executed race!!! #1 AG woohoo!

great video and story telling. I took note of the social distancing at the start even for a 5k. Quite a contrast to the Clearwater half where we were cramped.
I think most people were bashful about getting up to the line. My guess is that the locals are used to a lot of faster runners in attendance
What track is playing at the beginning of the video? Is that Veorra?
Awesome run. Love the decision to push through and decide to run.
I love the TS 8 for my track work. It’s a little too firm for road workouts, I like a bit more protection. On the track though, its perfect. I haven’t done any short races lately but I’m sure it will be great.
Congratulations! Getting PB while still feeling not good, and recording video, amazing accomplishment!
Thanks Rikho!

So much improvement kofuzii🔥🔥
Slow and steady
Nice job, Mike! Great result...
Congrats on the PB. Hope you feel better soon.
Congratulations!
Congrats on the PB and great race strategy! Loving the TS8 right now as well. I may use it in an upcoming 10k.

Glad you took your own advice! Congrats! What were you filming on for this one the footage was crisp 👌 Inspiring as always boss
Ran the whole thing with a camera on a pole too? Nice work.
Congratulations!!!!
I’m a member of the U of Illinois Run Club, Illinois Elite are run club alumni actually! :)
ah! thanks for the clarification! I was thinking that that could also be a possibility.
Nice one Ko!! 👊🔥
Well done!!
How cool I haven’t been to a local race in the suburbs that would have those time markers
Love the chikn legs shorts 🩳 🐓
💪🏻.. Congrats...🔥🔥🔥
congrats!!
Kids learn from action not words. Good daddy :)
awesome Mike!! :cowbell:
OKTOBERFEST!! 🇩🇪 Das schönste Fest des Jahres 🙂
Thanks for the km conversions
Running a PB with an Insta360 in your hand filming? Well done 👍
More v4 review? Considering buying
Great running considering you had a head cold. Are you catching bugs from over training Mike?
How does the GoPro stay focused on you at the finish when it twirls from back to front
congrats !
Hi Kofuzi we met last year at the Tracksmith pop-up for the NYCM. What marathon are you running this fall?
Curious: why did you wear the Adidas for your PB attempt and not another racing shoe? E.g., Asics
I love the takumi sen, and it's purpose-built for short road races. the 5k is a short road race.
Have the Takumi sen 8 myself and although I love the shoe a lot the upper is terrible. I have a hole in each upper now so will be retiring them soon, hopefully they can update jller for the 9 as it's an awesome shoe.
Where are the holes? I haven't had an issue yet but would like to watch for it. Thanks!
Big PR Energy!⚡️⚡️⚡️
I'm inspired thank you
I come to these videos to read the comments about how Mike could run faster without the camera. Never disappointed.
hahaha!
great job
Yo what’s going on!! Ko saw the news about Chicago flooding, hope where you are is all good.
Whats ur go pro settings and how many reserve battery u have
4k120fps linear. I might bring an extra battery if I'm running a marathon and I know there is going to be a lot of travel to get to the race start (like NY or CIM). typically, I don't bring any extras
@@kofuzi thank you sir. My first full marathon this sunday will be bringing extra batteries might for 1440p x 30fps
4:3 is that fine?
what shoes are you wearing when longrun
depends on what kind of long run. If it's just easy miles, then I'll reach for a max cushion shoe or daily trainer. If it's a workout (e.g. 16 miles with 10 at marathon effort), then a carbon plated shoe.
congrats!, Which kind of stick did you use for gopro?
Congrats on the PB! Do you think you could go even faster without the camera?
perhaps. perhaps not.
What adidas did you wear?
I’ve been running in Saucony Speed
They looked like Takumi Sen 8s
Ya 5ks, have to focus whole time. But I found longer warmup and pretending it's a longer race takes pressure off. Never carried a camera but I carried a football in a sub 17 5k and that was tough
is there a spelling error on your bib?
Yes. The race is called "Oktoberfast" but for severa second after 1:20 we can clearly see the bib says "Otoberfast." Good eyes!
😂
