I used to watch every single video of you two in the old Bokeh days and now after waiting for this nosence for past couple years my beloved gang is introducing it to me. Thank you Kai and Lok!
I have the Z7II and have been pretty happy with it. I will probably get a Z8 once they have ironed out any glitches which all new cameras have. As I do a lot of wildlife and sports photography, handling low light will be a bonus for me, and getting birds in flight should be easier. I don't expect they will be available to buy for some while yet, by which time all of the photo processing programmes should be able to handle the new RAW files.
I get the Z9 comparison, but many, many of us have a Z6II/Z7II; what about some comparison for us to upgrade (or not) rather than the 'downgrade' from Z9?
Aside from lower from battery life and the SD card slot the Z8 is exactly the same as a Z9(Kai said this at least twice), so the upgrade comparison will be the same as the Z9 reviews.
Shooting weddings professionally, I went from a D750 -> Z6 -> Z6ii -> Z9. It's massive upgrade from a Z6ii. Focusing system is night and day on the Z9 from older Z's. The Z9 could focus in darkness and nail focus everytime, where as the Z6ii would struggle in dim-lit wedding receptions. 120fps viewfinder is beautiful and it's hard going back to my Z6ii as a secondary camera. 3-D tracking and customizing the size of AF boxes for eye autofocus is a game changer - I don't have to worry about the camera picking up a random guest when the couple is walking down the aisle. Ergonomics with more buttons that feel intuitive help me access features in an instant. I'd go through 2-3 batteries for a full 12 hour wedding day, but on a Z9 a single battery lasts me the whole day - it feels like DSLR battery life. No mechanical shutter on the Z9 means I don't have to worry about my Z9's shutter dying. My Z6ii's shutter is pretty high with the amount of weddings I've done for the year I've had it. The Z8 which is smaller and lighter, is looking like the best all-around hybrid camera for both pros and consumers at that price point. Nothing comes close. I'll be replacing my Z6ii with a Z8 for sure.
Is it just me, or does the balance between highlights and shadows look a lot more natural than I'm used to seeing in any kind of recorded image? You're standing in a shaded area, surrounded by sunlit backgrounds, and the highlights are not blown out, nor are the shadows reduced to pools of darkness. I don't know why this stands out to me, but it's something I'm not used to seeing in photography. Anyway, it looks amazing! Kudos to you and Lok and congratulations to Nikon!

On Dec 24 2021 the first pro mirrorless offerings from Nikon Z 9 had a public release. March 2023 smaller body but same old tech with shorter battery life power and no grip . Ok Good and smaller cheaper thats ok, but nothing revolutionary as its 5 -7 year old tech in 2023 . The Z 8 was probably also manufactured at the same time as Z 9 production 4-5-6 years ago . If they want people to get excited they need a proper 24 MP Z6III with a much bigger / better screen/ evf and similar focusing video capabilities as Z8/9 as its much lighter smaller like a Sony as Sony is the first go to mirrorless for video people Nikon also need a proper focus mode button on Z6 III just like 99% of F mounts and the new Z8/9. Thats would be a real step up.
With the release of the Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z30 I am interested in what Nikon will do with the future Nikon Z5 Mark 2. Especially with the release of the Panasonic S5 Mark ii and Sony A74. I just hope Nikon keeps the two SD Card slots the same on the Nikon Z5 Mark 2 and it has a flip out screen and unlimited recording time limit and N-Log and a full size HDMI port

Also, personally not a fan of how Fuji handles auto exposure variables vs. minimum shutter speed / maximum ISO / EV compensation; on Nikon if you say not to go below 1/60th it won’t, but on Fuji it will completely ignore the limits to get a “correctly exposed” image. @@craigjohnchronicles2504 I have a grip for my current camera and really enjoy the benefits it provides. Adding a grip to the Z8 makes it larger than the z9 (see Jarod Polin’s review) and of course will increase the price.
@@bradtrounson - I couldn’t care less about Polin’s review. At least with the Z8, you have a choice to make it bigger if you want. With the Z9, you get the big brick regardless. I gave up on the big camera bodies after the D3s. I much prefer tue size of the Z6 II. It’s small, light and unassuming for an FX sensor from Nikon. I’ll wait for the Z6 IV before I upgrade at this point.
The entire point of mirrorless was to get rid of the mirror prism so now we get a prism box… 😂😂😂😂😂 Mated to honking big lenses the overall package weighs about the same and produces the same images as any of the latest DSLRs… at a premium price… and none of the Z lenses adapt to any other mount system. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

EVER hey Nikon, do you even consult real photographers? that said, the 8k/24 is soooo buttery smooth and nice, (**4k/24 is real jittery), so if i shot video i still wouldn't buy this :(
No GPS and too expensive, taking into account that the AF system is comparable to a 2500$ Sony. If Nikon have targeted 3500$ they will be having a chance to increase market share. But the camera is more expensive that their peers, a pretty old Viefinder, and the f1.8 are insanely expensive compared to Sony and Canon.
I think a better comparison would be the Sony A1, which is $6000, and which the Z8 is pretty evenly matched with. If you only need the autofocus of an A7IV and don’t need the other specs, then sure, A1 or Z8 are overpriced and unnecessary. But, both cameras do a whole lot more in photo and video. And in a few months, you’ll be able to get a used Z8 for $3500, which I agree would be a pretty attractive price for a flagship body. You can embed GPS data by connecting the camera to the SnapBridge app. Inbuilt GPS would be nice, I don’t know if there is much difference in battery life between having one in-body vs outsourcing it to a phone and connecting via low power-draw Bluetooth, though.
@@shrayesraman5192 yeah, I feel like Nikon took the Leica approach with Z lenses. The 1.8 primes are like Summicrons: superb quality, lightweight, performance punching way beyond the specs on paper. And if you want a Noctilux, they’ve got that too :)
It took Nikon forever to get the Z9 into peoples hands. Don't expect any better with this rollout. By the time anyone actually gets them, Sony & Canon will have passed this by.

It's $1,500 less than a Z9. Nearly the same price would put the Z8 at $5,000 or $5,200... LOL ....plus, it's a smaller camera body (a huge win)...
@@craigjohnchronicles2504 I have a grip for my current camera and really enjoy the benefits it provides. Adding a grip to the Z8 makes it larger than the z9 (see Jarod Polin’s review) and of course will increase the price.
You aint gonna buy a nikon anyway are you ?
@@bradtrounson - I couldn’t care less about Polin’s review. At least with the Z8, you have a choice to make it bigger if you want. With the Z9, you get the big brick regardless. I gave up on the big camera bodies after the D3s. I much prefer tue size of the Z6 II. It’s small, light and unassuming for an FX sensor from Nikon.
I’ll wait for the Z6 IV before I upgrade at this point.
@@planetfun85 I use Nikon exclusively
1st ... are we still doing this
What's the point in a Z8? When z6, 7 and 9 exist . . .
For hybrid professionals.
Z6 and 7 don’t do 4k120
Z9 is too big
A high megapixel stacked sensor with top of the line video spec for under $4k. Nobody else offers what this camera offers at its price point.
First!
yet, every other lens adapts to Nikon's Z mount - even MF lenses. Huge bonus for Nikon...
@@craigjohnchronicles2504 🤣🤣🤣 but there’s no way I’m wasting money on Z glass so why bother with Z mount? It makes more sense to save some flange back mm and use Sony E mount… same lens flexibility. Far greater native lens choices too. AND a mechanical shutter that works.
the largest customer base "today" wants a screen that points forward.. LOLOL
they killed the z9 for basically the same camera in smaller body but forgot to add the upgrades..
Nikon is so lost it's sad..
they wiped the z7ii potential too..
do they even have 1 person over seeing this product line?
kinda feels like they are drowning at this point
does Nikon even have a flagship camera at this point?
**it gets less than half the shots the z9 does on a battery charge.. wtf..
my Canon R gets 1000+ shots on 1 battery.. a z8 getting 340 shots to a full battery is laughably pathetic (i can shoot 340 shots in 3 songs/10 minutes)
my R also focuses at -6 ev instead of the -4 ev unless I'm using a special star shooting function to get up to -9 ev focusing?.. i am NOT using a star function to shoot concerts.. EVER
hey Nikon, do you even consult real photographers?
that said, the 8k/24 is soooo buttery smooth and nice, (**4k/24 is real jittery), so if i shot video i still wouldn't buy this :(
No GPS and too expensive, taking into account that the AF system is comparable to a 2500$ Sony.
Yeah but the 1.8s are insane. the 50 s zline 1.8 for used 400 USD is literally chart topping.
Z - it is a symbol for rascism now - russia fascism military ideology. It is very bad choise for Nikon(((
Really, Mr Asov...?!

One ugly camera 😅. Looks like a huge deformed d850…
I think it looks awesome, love that bevel on the bottom edge.
It's the same size as the d850
25p 🤢🤮
subtitles for the other guy please
Oh wow, looks/sounds ideal specs and ergonomic wise. I cannot forgive the Nikon logo, they just look so ugly that whole EVF lump and the logo font? 🙈
Edit, DPReview taped their copy of the Z8, looks much much better. 😂
At £3,999 body only for the Z8 and £5,000 body only for the z9 Nikon can jog on, take a hike and swivel on it!. Byeeeeee Nikon byeeeeee enjoy selling no cameras lol.
Paid more for the Sony A1 in 2021 🫠
May be too pricey for you, but I’m sure there are plenty of people that can afford it and will buy one
@@Simon_PieMan your making assumptions again like 90% of this channels commenters seem to do!. Did I say anything about it being too expensive for me!??…..no you just assumed as usual!. Im extremely confident anyone spending that kind of money including me will/would be going for the Sony A1. The same goes for well most professionals. Just look at big sporting events like F1 what cameras do you see over and over again Sony and a few canons…what cameras don’t we often see Nikon which is not an assumption but based on real world observation, unlike your comment that’s just pure assumption based on well nothing. Kind of like driving down a dead end street, backing out and then driving down the same dead end street, assuming we’ll it’s a road it’ll get me somewhere if I keep driving down it.
