  • This has been a long time coming. At least it sure has felt like a long time coming. But in this video the first animals are moving in!!
But of course, there is the rush of getting the last few jobs finished up, like sand and straw in, some random parts moved from - well everywhere.
But then. One of the moments we have been waiting and preparing for for a very long time. Cows moving in.
Now this isn't the milk cows, so the robots are going to be fired up another day, but to get the heifers and dry cows in is a very significant step. It means the manure system is ready. The water system is ready. And pretty much all the electrical is done.
    This is an exciting video!
In case you are curious: the Sand Thrower is a BECKER WOODCHUCK & the Straw Chopper is a PICUS RM5.
As we move through construction, here are the suppliers you'll see most of the time:

Contractor & Concrete Flatwork: Schoonderwoerd Agri-Construction
    Wall Forming: AKKO

Milking Robots: Lely provided through Lely Centre Avonbank
Stabling, Fans, Curtains, Milk Tanks: Dairy Lane Systems

What brand of tub grinder do you have for your skid-loader?

We've got a PICUS brand tub grinder. A bit more about it is in E75.

Sand under straw has been tried many times. The outcome is not good. Sample the back of your stalls monthly to note pathogen build ups and maybe lime the back of the stalls.a deep bedded stall with only a fine sand would be your best bet. But even with sand you can have extremely high pathogen counts. Good luck and stay on top of it.

How do you like the straw bedding so far?

Pretty soon I'll be back to making videos and that's one of the first things to talk about. Teaser: we aren't using it anymore.
