    I remember getting the Silver Mirage and being excited to play with it. It was the first G.I. Joe toy I rage-quit after it practically disintegrated running across 1980's shag carpet on it's first run. I'm glad mine wasn't the only one built so poorly...

    I don't know about you guys but I didn't have any issues with mine. Then again I liked to take care of my toys since it wasn't often I could get new ones.
    That being said, I liked playing with just the motorcycle without the sidecar more.

  • @trans8010
    @trans8010 4 года назад

    I had a Mirage. Second hand from my older cousin of course, but it was a fun toy, till you loaded up the side car then it was a pain to keep it together while in play. I bought one supposedly MIOB only displayed by a military toy collector, and after displaying it, on a shelf fully assembled, not touching it the pegs from the mortar launcher snapped, and several missiles had fallen off.

    Nice job channeling the Fonz!!! By the way, I think the LCV Recon Sled could count as a motorcycle; for the driver rides it similar to the way Batman rode the Batpod in The Dark Knight.

  • @gijoespanol
    @gijoespanol 6 лет назад

    The rear missiles will work very well until you sit a second person on the motorcycle. Imagine the burning at that person's right left after the missiles are launched. Another great feature that probably won't work at real life. Thanks for the great review.

    I remember getting this baby when I was about 7. Took me forever to put it together and the wheels wouldn't spin. My brother had the RAM and man was I disappointed with this thing. Wasted a day putting it together and could barely play with it.

    The only way those rear facing missiles would work is if they had timers on their warheads, otherwise an explosion at that close range would easily take out the bike as well.
    As for that thing you attach to the rider's back, it would actually increase drag and weight, not reduce it. As you said, it would only work if it was armour protection for the rider. As a matter of fact, it's not a bad idea to protect the rider in such a way, especially if it's made of lightweight material like Kevlar.

    True story; this was my most cannibalized vehicle ever. I had used the side seat as a replacement seat on my Tactical Battle Platform, the missiles could peg into one of the other vehicles (I forget which one), I used the mortal launcher as a mounted weapon, and I used the engine inside another vehicle.

    Excellent choice! The Silver Mirage is very aesthetically pleasing, bar none. But it doesn't hold a candle to the classic RAM, when it comes to durability. My mirage is in many pieces, the forks break easily as is the aforementioned side car pegs. Durable construction, my tukas! Your skit was hilarious. How many MPGs does your hog get? Lol

    I never had a Silver Mirage I always thought it looed weird in silver ( I was never a fan of BF 2000 vehicles either ) I did get the 97 Duke with the Silver Mirage though, talk about a disaster that line is flimsy anyway but I had to super glue this to get it to stay together

    I have to say it: This was one of the few Joe toys I didn't like. I got it the same Christmas as I got the AWE Striker. I loved the Striker but I hated this. For some reason the plastic was warped on mine and didn't really want to go together correctly. I couldn't understand why the handlebars didn't 'turn' the wheel, and I think maybe something broke on it right away. I have genuine memories of putting it together Christmas day, and then by the end of the day I didn't want to see it again - something that rarely happened with new toys.

  • @seanpalmer2050
    @seanpalmer2050 6 лет назад +1

    your reviews always include great research and knowledge on the real world vehicles the toys are based on. this is the second time you reviewed a motorcycle toy and I was again a little disappointed by some of the inaccurate terms you used in reference to motorcycles. The rail that wraps around the seat is a type of grab rail for the passenger. overall a nice review and I like the Mirage. I had the RAM. Mine came from a Revel or Monogram model kit version sold in hobby shops. It was a joe size model kit of the RAM. Does anyone else remember that?

  • @MadSUPANOVA
    @MadSUPANOVA 5 лет назад

    Still have mine, but it is so fragile the connection pegs broke on first drop. Better looking bike than ram. Rubber tires, rubber seat awesome. And the BOMB DISPOSAL went with Bazooka who was my first Joe in 1985. That bike details and feel felt valuable..quality for less. Love those designers back then giving kids amazing toys for less

  • @racerxgundam
    @racerxgundam 6 лет назад

    its a shame that the more recent gi joe lines did not remake this vehicle...its a great design in my book...easily eclipsing the ram..but its shoddy construction is an Achilles heel too large to ignore. i would have rated it exactly like u have.

    I thought the rear ‘missiles’ were hand thrown grenades that happened to be dart shaped. I don’t have the blueprints anymore but I thought that was the description in the instructions

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  6 лет назад

      The blueprints don't have a listing for them. The instruction sheet calls them "grenades," but I don't think they would be hand-thrown grenades with that shape and mounted as they are.

    The JOE's got so many motorcycles it was just sad the Dreadnok's a biker gang got none until way late in the series and that tricycle they did get was pathetic and a trike not a bike. At the very least they could have launched a recolor of the Silver Mirage and Ram for the Dreadnoks to use.

    surely, this was a hasty design, it was very fragile, I rarely used it because of this flaw.
    this is one of the instances where a longer life span would have been better,
    with only a 2 years shelf life, Hasbro never bothered to improve on the construction mold.
    also, like you, I think that the color scheme was reversed, it should have been green with a grey engine and pipe.
    it also makes me wonder as to why they never thought about making a ninja motorcycle,
    or a Harley custom for the dreadnoks, done right, they would have sold well.
    of all the joes vehicles, this was one that was logical to have more than one to transport and attack.
    I never bought more than one joe vehicle when a character was included as the driver.
    if the vamp did nt include clutch, I would have bought more than just one.
    sometimes, Hasbro shot itself in the foot by including specialized drivers.
    and the comics and cartoons did nt much push for that angle with the ram and flack.
    also, the shelf life was so short, that having many was difficult, unless you were rich.
    there were years where I did nt get to have the complete catalog offering in spite of my best efforts.
    it was pretty difficult to have a matching cobra army to make a serious opposition.
    Hasbro would have made much more money on a longer life span and study their products better.
    discontinuing and stuffing us with that much products made it a race where nobody wins, it was alienating.
    good show Commander!
