- At the ManCup DME Nationals from Rockingham, North Carolina this team had a by run. However a miscommunication between the rider and crew caused fuel to leak out on the track and resulted in a disqualification.
Here is an update on the woman and explanation of what happened -

So everyone knows. The rider accidentally shut off the fuel. This being a “freebie” run, all he had to do was trip the tree. She didn’t understand that, and so I assume was attempting to remedy the fuel issue. Rider pushed her away in attempt to get on the line before the bike died, resulting in her falling and taking a fuel line with her-leading to the dq. Hope that helps.

So.....He intended to break the beam and didn't communicate that to his crew, she saw the fuel cut-off switched off as he came to stage, tried to turn it back on, rider tries to shove her away, fellow crew tries to pull her away, she thinks she needs to help despite this, gets properly pulled away and falls, tugging line as she falls (which should have been fastened properly)???

There is a LOT of misinformation here, so I will fill in.
After the burnout, he accidentally hit the fuel shutoff. This means in a very short period of time, the bike will run out of fuel and stop. It is a bye run, meaning all he has to do is trip the lights with the bike running and he wins, he does not have to cross the finish line. The lady in the mean time, tried to put the dump can fuel line in like she always does. This takes a little time, and he would have run out of fuel before tripping the lights. So Mr. Tough Guy shoves her out of the way, to run up on the lights. She falls and in the process, pulls the fuel line out and fuel runs all over the ground. Any liquid leaks on the track, you are instantly disqualified.

As you can see, it's not supported by anything other than the clamp that connects it to the engine.
Being that she had a hand on the rider's shoulder instead of both hands down under, I'm guessing that she was trying to tell him something related to the the task, otherwise there wouldn't be any reason to touch the line; surely nobody would grab such a thing to brace their fall

At 1:37 you can see her left shoe does sick to the track by the way she steps towards the bike. If you slow it down to 0.25 speed, at 1:41 you can clearly see she has the fuel line in her hand & that the rider is pushing her away. Looks like her left foot stuck to the ground as the rider pushed her away & the other assistant tried to stop her fall.
Why she was disconnecting the fuel line in the first place I've no idea.

For one,I can't believe the comments on this from people who have no clue how to run one of these bikes.its her job after the burn out to transfer a fuel line from the dump can to the carb.we had a oil pressure problem and I was just going to break the beam,not make a full pass.she couldn't hear me because of my helmet and the bike is very loud.the bike we have here in the fastest in the world in pro fuel and we certainly know what we're doing.after 7 national records & numerous national championships.we are not drunk.on drugs or anything else.we had to thrash just to make it to the line for this pass and everyone was pretty frazzled.I'm sure this will bring more shitty comments,but I can't help that.if you Actully look at any of our other pass's on here you will see what she does to the bike after the burn out.we do go to all the AMRA & MAN CUP races if anyone would like to attend and actully say any of this to my face.but I'm really doubting that.you all have a good day

I’m not slagging anyone off but why not wear appropriate clothing and foot wear then if she’s going to be doing something on the bike! Ok doesn’t look like a dolly bird but it’s practical that’s what matters when racing

How is it possible that any person whom doesn’t know the exact staging/starting procedure is allowed close to the bike while staging ?
If you slow the speed down to 0.25 you can see that she was either falling or being pulled away, ended up losing her balance and then reaches for something to hold onto so she doesn't fall but ends up grabbing a fuel line.

Actually her shoes/boots stuck to the track because of sticky compound they use. Yea she stumbled a little bit, but you have to lift your feet a certain way so it doesn’t stick. When she tried to regain her balance, she lost it.
She was trying to do one thing, the driver was trying to do something else and the man in the black shirt was trying to pull her away as the driver broke the beam. Her boots stuck to the track and she lost her balance.

His emergency tether was caught and the big guy pulled her away while she was trying to fix it subsequently killing the bike, dude was mad because he can't just hit the starter to get it running and if the bikes not running the pass is over.
The big guy tapped her back and then violently yanked her back like her clothes or hair were about to get caught in something . Definitely not a "fall"

I have drag raced for years, her feet stuck to the tarmac. I have had this happen to me at the track helping friend stage there car. A hot day will do this.
I was there. It was 107 degrees at my truck in the shade. It was HOT
I thought her towel got sucked in, so that meant disassembly in order to free it up. A fuel line is a quick fix, and a coat tail would have been pulled out. Her towel is missing when she goes back.
Looks like what happened was her jacket started to go into the intake and the guy saw it..tried to pull her away she lost her balance and trying to keep from falling tried to grab onto the bike and grabbed the fuel line yanking it out.

#1 Kirby and Lana are good people. Lana is very pretty and nice, so stop with the mean comments. It was HOT and miserable. We parked in the shade and it was 107 in the shade. Nobody was making good runs and nobody was happy. It took everything we had just to breath and stay hydrated

If you look attached to the front cylinder he has a fuel dump can. And the fuel line comes from the bottom and goes to the top. It is an extra fuel feed that goes to the carb for extra power. When it runs dry that's it. He also has two jets on top for more fuel that operate with a solenoid, same reason. It appeared she was trying to hook up the line from the top of the tank to a fitting on the carb when bonehead pulled her away with the hose in her hand. Just a little FYI.

BTW, been attending drag races since 1968, so, I've seen a track or two.
Note: Any time you are competing in anything and something or someone disrupts it (miscommunication or not) you are going to be upset, especially when it was essentially a free pass. I dont blame him at all for being upset in the moment but it was an honest mistake.
I once had a crew member inadvertently turn off the fuel valve, in the water before he fired me up. Made it to the tree dropping and the clutch coming out before running out of fuel. It was during qualifying and I laughed it off, as I always do. Now, had that been during eliminations then all bets would've been off! ;-)

After a compliment she replied with sarcasm. Only to end up looking like a fool.
The fuel shut off got bumped in the burn out box. She moved the fuel line with her right hand to get to the fuel valve with her left hand. The guy in the black shirt pulled her away while the fuel line was in her hand, causing the fuel to leak out (you see it on the ground) and starved the engine of fuel. Had the guy in the black shirt just left her alone, there would not have an issue and he probably would have made a clean pass.
Can someone explain to me why you are disqualified?? ( love the engineering that goes into drag racing but not familiar with the rules) is he not allowed re start the bike ??
He was DQ'ed for putting fuel on the track. His fellow competitors were willing to reinstate him since this was an honest mistake. Thanks so much for the feedback. Typically you are allowed a couple crew members to help with your starting line procedure. This was just a miscommunication.
It actually looks like her foot got stuck on the track. Remember that those tracks are treated to be very sticky.
