The Grand Canyon skywalk is a rip-off getting their money because it's close to Vegas and people don't know better. If you wanna see the Grand Canyon properly, you need to go to the Grand Canyon National Park (south rim).
I’ve been to the grand canyon 6 or 7 times and have driven there every time- I have no idea who sold you that bus tour or said you couldn’t drive because you definetly can. I’ve even seen RV’s in the parking lots 😅
