Johnson County is a great place to live, but IMO the best place to live is in one of the lake communities in Lees Summit area. Lake Winnebago, Raintree, Lakewood or Lake Lotawana is the place to be.

All of those are great areas! I'm a big fan of Lakewood, but really cool houses all around.

Johnson County does have a much bigger economy as pointed out below, it also has one of the top rated school districts (Blue Valley) in the country which was mentioned in the video. There are so many positives but it comes at a cost and that cost has risen vastly in the past 15 years. For instance Johnson county is home to the third most affluent neighborhood in America, Mission Hills. It is a fantastic place to live if you have a decent family annual income. If you have children and want them to grow up in a low crime, highly educated environment then its really hard to beat JC. There are tons of sports centers, recreational areas and activates to do including green spaces like parks / arboretums etc. Again all this comes at a cost. It is really difficult to buy a house in JC and the most expensive areas would be Leawood, Overland Park, Shawnee, Lenexa. I would even go as far to include Olathe. Typically new homes are starting at the 550K mark in Olathe but could be 750-800k in Leawood. If you are in the market and cannot afford those high prices there are some much older builds (think 50, 60s,70s). These homes typically need work doing like new roofs etc. They can offer 1500sqft with smaller ceilings and nice gardens and are located in areas like Prairie Village. What we are seeing today is more established family's buying those homes and completely renovating, take a drive through Prairie Village and see the new builds on lots dating back to the 30's and beyond.

Thanks for your video, Nick! Question: I'm a single dude with no kids, etc; but what are taxes like for remote workers? Will my income state taxes be based on where I live or where my employer is based? And this is a question from a recent visitor to KC from the Nauwtheast, I mean Northeast, lol. FYI I stayed in North Kc and really liked it there. Thank you in advanced for any insight.

Thanks for watching! Please don’t consider this tax advice 😅 but I believe it’s both. You’ll pay income tax in Kansas/Missouri (whichever you live in) and probably income tax where you’re technically employed too.
That’s also how it seems to work when people here work in Missouri, but live in Kansas and vice versa. Usually there are some deductions involved when paying income tax to two different states but that’s not quite my area of expertise.
Glad you liked North KC! Some really good areas there that are growing quickly.

Johnson county is bigger than Jackson county by economy. Jackson county is only bigger by population.
