Whassup Finntastics, I forgot to clarify that Schengen Area is an area of around 25 European countries where there is no border control, so basically if you come outside of EU, it's automatically non-Schengen ==> Terminal 2. I know I didn't film anything at Terminal 1 cos most of the flights arrive at T2. If there's any extra questions, let me know!
I wish I had seen this before my trip in early 2019 when I had a transfer flight in Helsinki on my way back from Japan. Eventually I found my way to the city after getting on the wrong train. I hope to go back again!
I would make a few corrections to your video. The two terminals are based on airline alliances, which are OneWorld, StarAlliance and Skyteam. Airlines which are part of the StraAllance or Skyteam(Lufthansa, SAS, KLM) and all the lowcost(Norwegian, Easyjet, airBaltic) operate from T1 and which are part of the OneWorld(Finnair only in Helsinki) operate from T2. And only part of the T2 is non-schengen area, not the whole terminal. Schengen and non-schengen are separated from each other with two bridges. Airlines which operate to non-schengen destinations from Helsinki are Qatar, Japan airlines, Finnair, Aeroflot and a few Chinese airlines. So basically, if you are arriving with Finnair from Schengen country, you end up to the Schengen part of the terminal two, and from non-schengen country to non-schengen part of the terminal. if you are with Lufthansa, KLM or low-cost airlines, you end up in T1. The terminal 1 is only for Schengen country's and T2 for both, non-schengen and Schengen. That is how it goes normally, but all the flights are now operated from T2, because the T1 check-in and security check areas are now currently under renovation, which is going to end up at some point in 2021.
This video would have been especially helpful just ten days ago when I arrived to Helsinki-Vantaa for the first time and had no idea how to get to the city center. I ended up taking a taxi since it was the most straightforward option.
I have 3 countries in mind ( Finland, Denmark, Norway ) but I'm thinking that Finland will be best for me, I want to move there in the coming month ( will be looking for a job as well )
Dear Alexi, thanks for useful tips! I wonder if there any requirements for luggage size and weight that I can take with me to the train? I'm from Kazakhstan and there are minimum requirements as to size and weight of luggage that can be transported via buses for free. If the luggage exceeds the limits, then you have to pay for extra weight/size.
Could you make a video about cross-country traveling in Finland? I'll be in Finland in about a month from now going all the way up to Utsjoki, but I'm having trouble figuring out transportation and it would be super helpful and appreciated to have someone from Finland explain the buses/trains.
Why haven't you made this video a month ago? 😂I'm Italian and I arrived in Helsinki Airport 20 days ago. I've lost at least one hour, waiting for the wrong bus on the wrong platform. Then a stranger has helped me. And I got totally confused with the choice of the letter to choose the right bus ticket. So thanks for the video, but you were late :P
We've recently matched on a dating site, Aleksi :)) I'm going to move from Germany to the North soon, right after my vacation to Korea and Japan. I'm so excited and curious about all that! Let's meet up for coffee when I'm there. By the way, you remind me of Alexi from Stranger Things Season 3 with your curly hair and authentic self. Keep up the good work and greetings from Dresden
Thank You so much. I have another question . Is it possible to buy the ticket at Airport's train station which will be valid on both : train from airport and in zone A during the day ? Thank You
Hello Alexi I’vemy wife and I were in Finland from July26 to August 2nd and had a most wonderful stay in your beautiful country in fact we love it so much don’t know if we can live here on a regular basis. I’m 75 and she is 70 both retired and living quite well in the states. Anything you can add to my views? Learning Finnish is very difficult! Your thoughts please Thanks again for the wonderful videos. Krishna Iyer from Los Angeles
Very useful, thanks. Are any things not allowed to enter Finland in the checked luggage (not in the cabin)? Like dry meat, alcohol, fruit.... I was surprised how many forbidden items (specially food) are in USA and Australia. On the other hand, which phone company doyou recommend? And which bank? Tks
I follow almost all of your videos. very interesting. I'm from BALI Indonesia. if you go to Bali.contact me ok. I will help you a lot. btw, Helsinki has been my main destination for a long time when I went to Europe. Is it safe for a single woman traveler who is visiting Europe for the first time? and does the airport also serve train tickets for 1 week. which may be cheaper?
Hi! Congratulations for the video. Do you know what is the train time schedule? I will arrive in at vantaa airport pretty late night and I am not sure if I will be able to take the train to city center. =/
@@AleksiHimself thank you. I have realized that there is no train after 11:45pm and before 4am. What would you suggest to hit the city center between this gap? My flight will only arrive (land) in Helsinki 00:20am.
Is at arrival the Finnish citizens need to go to passport control officers desks? Or like when they travel from the Vantaa airport through the automatic passport control for Eu citizens only?
Hey aleksi, can u help me with something. I will come to vantaa helsinki airpott and i need to go to jakobstad using the vr intercity express....now which train station should i choose to go at the airport? Can u please explain to me
unfortunately, two months ago I arrived at this airport for the first time and had a traumatic experience. I arrived at midnight, tired, and took a taxi to my hotel in central Helsinki. The driver charged me 200 euros, claiming the distance traveled and the amount of luggage (4). Then I found out that this was a scam, I was robbed. Terrible and disgusting experience.
I love the vantaa airport. I have flown there twice! Super clean and easy to navigate!! Kiitos Aleksi!
Thanks for the comment Jeff Middleton!
Please I need a Schengen visa traveling agent

Sorry to hear about that. Taxi scams are rare in Finland. I always recommend to use apps like Uber and Bolt to get the price in advance.
