One important upgrade that the 600 series has is that it is a sealed system and the 400 series is not. This means allergens do not escape from cracks in the vacuum, so it is worth the increase in price for someone who has allergies or is trying to avoid breathing and redistributing dust (mold spores) when vacuuming. Not many vacuums offer a sealed system.
