I own all three: boxcutter, hardops and grid modeller. The latter is the one I use the most for prototyping. Simple commands, ease of use and quick results. My favourite addon!
Thanks again Justin - this may be my new favorite add-on! 2 minutes after buying it, I wondered if you REALLY needed to be in face mode, or if it worked in edge or vertex mode. It does, and the results are great! Here's a cool tip - start with a single vertex, edit, and hit Grid Modeler. Now you have a grid plane that is super easy to use, add faces, pipes, whatever, with precision. This one is cool and has potential!
@@TheCGEssentials The new interactive primitives in Blender 2.92 and Grid Modeler make quite a powerful combination. I just discovered what "A" does and how it shows divisions on the surface nicely without the need for making subdivisions or loop cuts!
Very Useful review. I definitely want to get this tool now, as the thing i'm trying to create with blender is Mechs and honestly this tool seems like it would have a billion uses for that.
The guy who made this add-on published hundreds of time-lapse videos, and none with Screencast or an actualy f@%cking explanation about how to use it... Thanks for sharing your insights on this one ;)
Whooowhats up Justin 😁 although I already know and use BC, HO and Fluent, GM looks pretty interesting. So you can choose which workflow suits you best. At the moment I'm more at Fluent than BC because of the workflow, but both are very good tools. However, Fluent brings more tools with it than just boolean operations - (grids, pipes, wires, chains - with templates - just great). Let's see, maybe I'll take a closer look at GM. Thanks for the introduction, Justin!
I'd say the one thing to be aware of with Grid Modeler is that it's destructive - you can't make changes to the booleans like you can with Fluent - I do like how quick it is though
Hi Sir, i find this very helpful for me as a beginner, thank you so much for this.. by the way Sir, can we use some other modifiers for smoothing edges and surfaces afterwards we finish our desired object on grid modeler?
Lol - I mean I guess so - several hard surface modeling add-ons have tools like this - Box Cutter, Fluent, Grid Modeler - it makes a lot of sense for certain kinds of modeling :)
i used to fk up the ngons while using hardops and come up with a clumsy model (due to my own shortcomings not the tool ) sice grid modeler , the control on the mesh mess has gone down
Sort of - Fluent uses booleans for more of a non-destructive workflow. It feels to me like this is more designed for quick modeling based on what I'm reading on the developer website, and it does feel like you're going faster when you use it, but the fact that it's destructive does mean you can't go back and make changes later
I don't quite understand the shortcuts because my English is a little weak. What is the shortcut to growing the grid and how the grid can expand to the outside of the object. What is the shortcut to extrude and what key do we press to confirm after we have drawn on the grid.
use ALT+ Mousewheel to Expand the grid size and then can immdiately start drawing the shape , if you like to further expand the grid , you can while drawing you can use alt plus mousewheel combo to expand or shrink the grid , you can use space bar to break the shape and start drawing it from a new point

Hi everyone - let me know what you think about Grid Modeler in the comments below! :)
I own all three: boxcutter, hardops and grid modeller. The latter is the one I use the most for prototyping. Simple commands, ease of use and quick results. My favourite addon!
Yep for sure - Grid Modeler is great for those fast models :)
Thanks again Justin - this may be my new favorite add-on!

Great point - it does align with edges and vertices as well - it's definitely a lot of fun! :)

getting a sketchup vibe from this tool. just bought it recently and this was a really good video to help ease into it. thank you.
i discovered this (your)channel whike youtubing Plasticity..but now i see that you cover alot..thanks mate.
This is becoming my favourite addon along with mesh copier.
Thanks! Was looking for something like this!

This is what i have been waiting for in your channel. Love your explanation on things. Thanksss a tonn!
Thanks very much!

Whenever I notice some potentially very useful addon, Justin makes a tutorial on it :D But Fluent is still my favorite one.
I like fluent too, but I have and like this as well.
You never disappoints me😀
Really helpful
Glad you liked it! :)
Well explained..cleared my doubts

Great review, I bought this addon because of it thanks !!!
Awesome!
This is looking promising ... will buy it!
It's a fun one! :)
Thanks for the video ☺️
It's the easiest addon I have, fluent and hopscutter have steeper learning curves
Outstanding!!
Thanks a lot dude :)
No problem!
Nice!!
Thanks!
great video

sounds nice thx
It's a good one :)
Justin, having used GridModeller and RanTools P-Cutter, which tool do you think is the best ? Both have these grid systems.
Hmmm...getting very "sketchup-y" ;) Nice tutorial Justin.

Does this compliment something like Fluent? How do you think this compares with Fluent? Nice video, as usual.

so that means this tool doesn't come with blender you have to purchase it to use it??
Why it wont let me drawn a shape?
I just bought Fluent. I wish I would have bought this instead!
Just got an upgrade
does it support new version of blender
Not sure - I think I was using 2.90. Haven't tested 2.91
ahaha the beginning is very funny and a little cringe))
God damn it i was getting all hyped up just for it to cost money
I mean...it's only $13....you must not have been that hyped...
