@@Kazperh IYHO, how much of a fight could it really put up in a dogfight with a 5th gen fighter like the Raptor or the Felon? Yeah I would be super shocked if he'd have had radar for that fox2 kill. More likely that be would have had to fight the rate fight into a gun kill, if losing radar meant he had no gun sight though its probably a F15 Victory right there. F15 Also almost got him first in their 3rd fight but it decided to pull an F14 move and fly a direction the pilot wasn't intending which was funny to watch.
Not really...the F15 was close and had what COULD have been a good kill. However, when you watch what happened...the F15 may have had 1 round go into the left wing near the outside area which is very minimal damage. So while he was close...this ain't horse-shoes and hand grenades. Peace
@@heathb4319 I thought a round or two went into the F-14's nose? Maybe they hit in front of the radar and I think there's just empty space in that section there? Anyway, it was very close!
I hate when people say "the plane A is better than the plane B, therefore the plane B has no chance against the plane A." They fail to realise that so many factors have to be accounted for when it comes to dogfights (and aerial engagements in general) and the pilot's skills are probably the most important one. It's all about probability, really. Like you said, the F-16 does have a higher probability of scoring a kill against the F-14, but the greater probability does not mean that it will always win. Your video illustrates this perfectly well. Thank you for sharing!
You don't have to prove skill, but you do it in every video. Also shows the F14 had a lot of miles left on her when she was pulled from service. Give her the Super Tomcat upgrades and it'd be a beast.
I think this is one of your best showcases of the F-14 by far, you really made her sing, and it was nice change not using the A variant with all the endless compressor stalls. This one was a joy to watch. :)

Now that we know the F-14 is very good in the 1 circle and slow rollers, I'd like to see a 2v2 fight...see what a Tomcat has to do to adjust against a enemy wingman hangin outside the fight...
Whenever one ejects from an F-15 after a dogfight and is later recounting the events at a tavern, which includes this bit: “…and then his 20 mm cannon shot off my radar and blew apart my HUD and instrument panel,” that is one is one *lucky* SOB.
Frequently people say "switch the aircrafts and fight again!" but if someone is really good at a certain aircraft, they may be able to surprise a skilled opponent in a "more capable" aircraft. Doesn't mean that pilot in the "inferior" aircraft is as capable and/or skilled flying the opponents' plane.
Basically anyone can beat anyone in almost anything. Just fight your fight and take advantage of any mistakes. Love watching these fights. Can't get enough of them
I'm somewhat surprised that no one has modded the Super Tomcat 21. This thing would be a beast with more power and a modern FS (and helmet cued AIM-9X).
The Tomcat and the Eagle are really two different missions. As the main fleet long range interceptor, the Tomcat was really built around defending the fleet against the Tu-22 Backfire. That was the sole purpose when the aircraft was still just an idea on paper. The Phoenix missile and the huge AWG-9 radar and then the upgraded APG-71 on the F-14D were tailor made for that mission. Where as the Eagle was specifically built for every aspect of air domination from BVR to guns only dogfighting. The fact you can hang with an Eagle in a furball is a tribute to not only the airframe, but your piloting skills. Because of the extreme maneuverability of the Viper, I was very skeptical about your chances in a guns only fight because I have watched you dominate all enemies in one yourself. But he made some poor energy management choices and hoping you would shoot right past him. Like the knight in the Indiana Jones movie said "...he chose poorly.."
It was not built as a interceptor, it was built for fleet air defense and meant to deal with fighter. Because the Tu-22 was a bomber that the US navy saw as a threat one of the requirements for the f14 was long range interception. But that doesn’t make it a interceptor it’s still a fighter.
Split throttle is what I liked to use back in 2007-2008 to defeat F-15’a and F-18’s, F-16’s and other F-14’s. It’s an F-14 thing we discovered and when we deploy flaps and use the break and that split throttle it made the F-14 capable of slower flight and with its power allowed it to climb when it needed. Of course the pilot had to learn all of these things. I’ve got some high altitude air combat ideas if you want to try them.
As i saw in an article abt dogfighting between F-15's, -16's and -18's , it's not always about the fighter jet but the man flying it, well done growly!
I’m blown away by people who hate the Tomcat and think it’s this big lumbering ridiculously flawed aircraft that’s only been glamorized by a cheesy movie from the 80’s (the real reason they hate the F-14). Yet I keep reading accounts of it being a phenomenal platform from the people who actually flew it, and now the best part… we get to watch Growling Sidewinder become highly specialized in the Tomcat right before our very eyes, proving what it was capable of by flying it on the edge of disaster… where she was at her best. If it was such an obsolete, overweight, aerodynamically inefficient aircraft, why is it even capable of battling (and in the right hands beating) F-15’s, 16’s, 18’s etc? Time to rethink the narrative.
For context the nose cone of most if not all military aircraft containing radar is made of a laminated fibre structure( older Aircraft usually fibreglass)and not metal so a hit in the nose wouldn't necessarily even detonate unless it hit a support structure. Even radar scanner 'dishes' are extremely fragile and structurally weak, hence the nosecone. Usually nosecone are attached via a ring and forward cockpit/ fuselage bulkhead, and hinged along this line creating a lot of space for the scanner to rotate inside. The radar basically hangs off the bulkhead on a mounting. Not attached to the nosecone in any way. I went a little off topic but the point is a cannon hit on the nose wouldn't necessarily do serious damage, depending on the trajectory of the round.
When you lost the F15 behind your tail in round 3 it reminded me of the locker room banter in a scene in the original Top Gun ... "Where'd he go?" ... "Where did whoooo go?"
Would love to see a simulation where you are having to fly over enemy territory with random MANPAD systems scattered throughout. Would love to see how those threats would be dealt with along with having to deal with enemy planes.

GS, love your videos and thank you for sharing them with us. Your editing and commentary is what makes your videos stand out among all the other flight simulator vids. I was wondering do you and Toxic or other pilots discuss the engagements after in a sort of debrief? Toxic had a tough day.
You mention in most F14 dogfights about the flaps being out and breaking the aircraft in order to win the fight(s) since that’s the preferable alternative to dying but can you explain next time how and why it’s breaking the aircraft? How are the flaps getting jammed and why can’t they be raised after the fight is won?
They jam because the internal mechanisms that deploy the flaps aren’t tough enough to hold up to anything more than a 1.5G turn at 225 Knots. They simply break.
Unless specially made for it, flaps are usually only deployed at low speed for landing and take-offs. The F14's are designed for 225kts and 2.5G (I think). Exceeding that bends and breaks things enough so that the flaps wont retract. If you can't retract the flaps, you can't sweep your wings which in turn leaves you slow and vulnerable.
@@PvtPartzz To my knowledge yeah, if you can really call it an issue. When GS uses flaps, he's not using them for their intended purpose, which is landing, so they were never designed for dogfighting. That's why no variant "fixed" this "issue". The designers specifically mentioned not to use flaps during dogfights because they couldn't hold up.
Yeah he's right about saying the f-14 is not better etc...I remember reading about early top gun pilots going up against much older jets and getting their asses handed to them. While the plane does make a difference ultimately its the skill of the pilot.
