- This lyrical, three act operetta was first performed in 1884. It is positioned between 'Iolanthe' and 'The Mikado'. The libretto satirizes women's education which, back in Gilbert's day, was just coming into fashion. This is the D'Oyly Carte 1965 recording.
The Overture is omitted because of copyright restriction.

Thank you so much for uploading, excellent quality as ever (and as someone else mentioned, I really love the cover artwork)!
This was my first time listening to all of Princess Ida and it's absolutely incredible, easily one of fave G&S's from a musical perspective.
Thanks so much for putting this up here on youtube! This is my favourite printing of Ida, same year and cast and everything, so I'm so greatful to have it on a media other than 78. Much more portable this way.
You're so welcome, Bob--my pleasure! And thank you for stopping by, and commenting. Portable indeed--this opera on 78's doesn't exactly weigh in as walking around music.
Best Regards,
David
This has brought back the most joyous memories of my school Gilbert and Sullivan productions we did every year, the whole school came together... teachers, parents, pupils....I did get the leading role of princess Ida in my final year but unable to accept ....never did quite get over my disappointment...thank you for posting! Do you have the music from Lilac time or the white horse inn by any chance?
thx for upload
It's my pleasure--you're welcome.
Best Regards,
David
I loved Jamie Benson as a man being a lady going to get his friends baby wife back in this!
