    Thank You Gary, Thank You Phil at Shady Acres Woodshop.... Gary I had no idea what your plans were for this piece of Olive wood and it was so much fun watching your turning. All the while trying to figure out "what was Gary going to make?" Always enjoy & look forward to your adventures. HA, Gary, at 6:39 you stopped to make some coffee & I also stopped to some MORE coffee, OH YEA!!!! .. Gary that Olive wood sure comes alive with finish!!! .. I like the glass insert but I also like the looks of the piece with that rounded top. .. Beautiful turning this morning Gary and until next time..........TM

      Thanks so much TM. I have to admit for almost a year I was not sure what I was going to make out of it. I know I did not want to ruin it after almost doing just that. I decide which end I I wanted to keep and just went with that.
      It was sure a lot of fun to do.

    That Olive was in good hands with you at the gouge, Gary! Very nice design, especially taking into account the bark inclusions and natural areas. Those were a must save for sure! It was fun to hear the excitement in your voice as you revealed the beautiful grain this piece had to offer. Then when you applied the sanding sealer, oh my! Just an excellent turning and video and, oh yeah, great use of the laser, too! Very cool! Great job, my friend, keep'em coming! 😊

    Good am Sir & beautiful turning… I am one of Your, Phil Anderson’s & Turn A Wood Bowl youtube channels. Im an American wood turner retired in the mountains of the Philippines. I have never seen a laser signature before & am interested to learn more from you Sir. Can you make a video just on how you chose & how you use your laser?

    Love the natural look. It could not be matched by a painting artist. You use a Forstner bit to bore holes. Would it not be faster and cheaper to use a spade bit? Have a great day?

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  Год назад

      Thank you very much. I think the fact the spade bit only has to cutting edges it would not work so well. Not only not with the cutting but it would be very jerky when each blade hit the wood.

    You sir, are an artist! When you started the turning and decided to leave the bark inclusion intact, I wondered why. I didn't think it would look good. But you had the vision to see the final vessel and I'm glad you did. That feature makes the piece POP!! Thanks so much for sharing. I'll think twice before getting rid of imperfections and inclusions from now on. They can certainly make a piece much more interesting. 👍🏾

    You and Phil are becoming a double act! Great to hear you both specking so passionately about grain, inclusions, cracks etc. Nature does most of the artwork all my herself, all we do is help reveal it. Have you git a vid on your laser engraver?

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  Год назад

      Thank you Ray. For sure nature gives us a lot to work with. Just need to know when to stop to avoid turning it all away .
      I have a few videos on the laser engravers. Just look through the last few months of my videos for them.

    That was a great performance, Gary. Simply making great calls at the right times. But, I was thinking, sometimes turning is a bit like fishing. You can prepare everything in your control, but not always know what's under the surface. In this case it was even more beautiful figure. I really appreciate how great both finish areas look, the majority turned and the live edges. Reminds me of an inversion of Phil's, whose often have more live edge.
    And about him and all of you RUclipsr friends, you make this feel more connected as a community when you mention each other and share materials or ideas in your videos. So, thanks for that. :)

    • @ThePapa1947

      Thank you very much Jay. As a fisherman I like your comparison. I have spent hours on the river not knowing if there was anything in the water or hiding behind a rock. Salmon and steelhead are good for that. Like wood turning those hidden things are a real joy when they happen.
      Thanks for watching, Gary
