    GCS is important to know for the test. It’s a lot to remember but eventually you’ll get it down. I think the hardest part is getting the motor function down because it’s a 6 point score. It is used to assess brain injury towards the bottom of the scale whereas decorticate (flexion) is a 3 and decerebrate (extension) a 2 indicates a closer to the brainstem injury.

    What confuses me is sometimes with a “witnessed cardiac arrest” the answer in the test prep apps is to immediately shock with AED. But then there are other questions (I notice trauma is a common theme) that says start compressions immediately.

    for question 2, why not attach the pads and deliver a shock first? Electricity especially in a witnessed arrest is so important early on, right?

    • @A.jmmmm04
      @A.jmmmm04 Год назад

      My thoughts exactly, because everywhere I see it's always early defibrillation is always first if the option is presented if you have one available but if you don't then it's CPR

    • @LivingLikeMike-6x4-6
      @LivingLikeMike-6x4-6 Год назад

      You’d start CPR because it’s the quickest thing to do to keep the heart, brain, and body alive. Attaching an AED can be done after especially if you’re running a 2-person crew with you in the back and your partner driving. Early defibrillation is key, but can’t happen unless you’re pumping the heart. It really takes a while for the aed to deliver the shock. You have to bare chest the patient, attach the pads, connect it to the aed, let it analyze the heart rhythm, etc. All of that time could be best spent doing chest compressions and have someone else attach the pads for you

    • @LivingLikeMike-6x4-6
      @LivingLikeMike-6x4-6 Год назад

      Just remember, when you’re compressing the chest, you are making the heart beat and pumping that oxygenated blood through the heart. The blood contains about 4-6 min worth of oxygen at any given time so there’s still some o2 that needs to be circulated

  • @grippkqt7088
    @grippkqt7088 7 месяцев назад

    FYI: I may not be the first person to mention this but Pennsylvania EMS Protocols states: if a Pt becomes unresponsive, apneic, and pulseless in the middle of a transport the EMT should apply the AED first , before chest compressions. If the arrest was not witnessed by PA-EMS, chest compressions should ne the first action. However, PA EMS candidates must pass the NREMT before getting there PA EMT.

    Hey! im new to this channel and im currently studying for my NREMT coming up, and I was confused by the second question regarding CPR. On page 562 of Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured Advanced Package 12th edition, it says the correct choice is A if im not mistaken. Under Words of Wisdom subtitle it states, “If you witness a patient’s cardiac arrest and an AED is available, then deploy the AED immediately and then begin CPR. However, if you did not witness the patient’s cardiac arrest or if an AED is unavailable, then perform CPR and apply the AED as soon as it is available. If two or more rescuers are present, one rescuer should begin CPR while the other prepares to defibrillate using the AED.” Can you explain the contradiction please?

    • @thedanielsoexperience2862
