I remember walking into a car dealers, & the salesman spat out an insult at me in a way that was supposed to be a joke, I turned walking away & said YOU JUST BLEW ANY COMMISSION YOU MIGHT HAVE GOT. I never put up with BS from the age of 8 & definitely not at 18.
I wonder how long it takes for a car to be declared “abandoned by owner?” That shady dealership is stuck with that car for that time limit. It would be sweet if the car fully depreciated during that wait. 😈
As a woman, I loved the last story. One of my best friends sells cars, and these kind of stories give him a justice boner, because these are the kinds of people that make his job harder, and he’s a very honest and fair person in a very dodgy industry. I’ve been screwed over a few times in my life when I was younger too. I will fly to his state to buy a car from him instead. Kudos to OP, especially for the FICO hike!
Having been a car salesman in the uk, it's the price to change, that's the God level figure. Keep it simple guys, don't get baffled with bulls**t. Doesn't matter how much you are getting for your trade in, doesn't matter how much the replacement car is, it's always what it costs you to change. I had 1 idiot that wouldn't do a deal as his trade in price was too low, so I took the discount off the new car, uped the price and gave him the price of the trade in that he was after. He had a shit eating grin when he signed the invoice, until I slid the previous invoice over...... Still 7k to change!
A dealership is not required to sell Gap unless (A) the bank financing the loan requires it or recommends it or (B) if it's required by state law. You don't have to take the Gap that they offer, though. Some auto insurance companies offer their own Gap, which might have a lower monthly rate than the dealership's Gap. Edit: I once bought a Nissan Rogue Sport from a local Nissan dealership and insisted they sell me Gap. They told me they didn't sell it, but never explained why. Earlier this year they offered to buy back the Rogue and put me in a newer vehicle, and when I signed the paperwork, they had me sign up for Gap. I told them I thought they didn't offer Gap. They told me they did. I said that the last time I bought a vehicle there, they never offered it to me. The finance guy told me that was because the bank that financed the previous loan didn't require or recommend it, but the bank that was financing the current loan, did. I have had to use Gap insurance before, and it was a lifesaver. It's a headache (isn't all insurance?) but it saved my butt once.
Tldr: (If you want to make a good financial decision) if you need gap insurance it mean that you should have bought a cheaper car because you are not earning enough money to buy that one. long: so lets put the base in, a car is not an investment (most time few exception ex exotic cars) because it won't EVER get more valuable. In that mindset after the first down payment, what you have to pay should never be more than half your yearly salary to be able to afford a car comfortably. Adding on to that since it loses value the gap insurance is there to cover the difference between the current value of the car (in other term what the insurance are gonna give you for the car) at the moment of the problem (crash or what ever happen) and what you still have to pay on it. You shouldn't ever need gap insurance because if you want to make a good financial decision you should be able to pay your car in 3 years or less and if you pay the car in 3 years or less the value of the car will always (99.9% of the time legal obligation wink wink) be higher than what you owe on it so no need for gap insurance. Btw, am a human being. I get it, it feels good buying the bigger one and i wont tell you tu buy buy a 1997 toyota because bluetooth, heated seat and SAFETY. But like I said it's probably not a good financial decision of you need insurance for your insurance.
With all the chaos this week, a light from above shines down that brings a smile to so many!!! A bonus Redhweel post!!! I better make a dash to the coffee maker before anyone else see this 🤣
Oh, my Satan, I can't believe how incredibly awesome that last story was!!!!!!!!!! I TRULY hope that THAT dealership lost a SHIT-TON of $ on that deal!!!!!! It would serve them absolutely right!!!!!!! Fucking car dealerships are the biggest ripoff in the game!!!
Pretty sure that at some point that dealership can claim it's an abandoned vehicle, especially if they have proof of repeated attempts to contact OP. And depending on how the contract for the new vehicle was written up, combined with the fact that they paid off the lien on the trade-in, they might be able to file a lien of their own and then use that to not only put themselves in a position to sell it but also to tack on any additional expenses they incurred along the way and sue OP to recoup their losses.
That last one reminded me of one of my brothers stories. Back in the 80's he had a POS Jeep something or other [not the classic style Jeep] that he desperately wanted to see the back end of permanently. Since he had been a big VW fan in the past, and the Rabbit pick up just came out he went to see if he could solve his problem with the Jeep. The dealer was so desperate to get rid of the Rabbit, and they thought the Jeep would sell really quickly they gave him an absurd large trade in allowance, lets say $6,000. Next time he was in town he was driving by the dealer and saw the Jeep out front for something like $8,000. Couple weeks later it's $7,000. Every couple weeks he'd drive by and it was cheaper and cheaper. Last time he saw it it was something like $2,500. After that he was in getting some parts and asked about the old Jeep and was told they had to send it to auction and got basically scrap value for it.
my encounter with a rude jerk wasn't over a car but a house. Back in 92 my now ex and I were looking to buy a house. One of the realtors my ex found was this rude jerk. while showing us houses he completely ignored me, and only spoke to my ex. He forgot the basic rule of trying to sell something. Never ignore the wife. we have the last say. Specially when the wife is the one who has the money to buy said house. I bought a house, but only after I went thru another real estate agent. Don't know what my ex told him when he asked him if we were still looking for a house. don't care lol

It can have a negative effect, but if you already have other loans (more than 7 total credit accounts) that are older, or have value (10k isn't that much) it can boost your score. Lowering your total dept amount helps your credit a lot, and closing an account that raises your average credit age. Also you get a better debt to income ratio which will help get approved in the future. There's a lot of things to consider when closing credit accounts and many credit monitoring companies offer a free "Credit Calculator" (such as experian, which also has credit boost. Add your monthly bills to your credit and watch your score raise immediately). They can help you see what missing a payment, or paying off a loan might do to your credit score. Have a good day.
@@MrCodyminner lots of good info here. Thank you. When I paid my car off finally, I didn't have any other credit lines open so maybe that's why I took a hit. Paid on that thing for almost 6 years with a refinance in the middle and was utterly confused when I saw my score drop and in the negatively affecting score panel saw the closed account name.

I put it on the most extensive playlist and let it lull me to sleep. I rarely get repeats, and if I do, they’re from long enough back that they’re interesting again.
So trade in value is different from the actual value. Dealerships need to make money as well, so the real question is was that the value of it, or the actual trade in value? If it was the actual value then no I don't feel bad for her and the dealership should have canceled the contract which they can do as the trade in vehicle was not properly signed for. I don't meanbto stick up for shady drag Dealerships, I've certainly had to deal with them and can say for certain I will never buy a car from a certain Toyota dealer in Las Vegas that may have Wilson in the title

I think so, but there may be laws that dictate what's considered abandoned property. I think they'd have to wait at least 14 days before declaring it abandoned property or something, probably depending on state law.
When I was in college, I took notes in outline format. Before my hands became rather ineffective from arthritis, I used to have real tiny, but neat handwriting. Other students would always comment on it, so, I guess I was the 'go to' person when someone had missed a class. One student asked to borrow my notes and I agreed. I didn't get them back. I learned my lesson. After that, I would agree to allowing another student to copy them at the media center if they wanted, but they never left my notebook.

When you sell your car to a car dealership, they legally have to pay off the loan
You have to legally pay off the loan. Since you're selling the collateral.
